Right now I’m surfing the interwebs and I came across Urban Dictionary. I was tempted to make a definition for FTF. Fearing I might screw it up, any suggestions?

Laziest Fanshot ever. I just copied and pasted it from here.

Hello and welcome to the last Dropping the Gloves of this season (sniff). It's been fun doing these and I hope you guys enjoyed them. The next three fights are from the playoffs. So let's get this thing started.

First off we have Douglas Murray battling George Parros. Before the fight occurred Murray laid a MURRAY SMASH on Teemu Selanne. Big bad <strike>mustache</strike> Parros said hey if you mess with my guys you know what happens:

Very cool fight. Parros is 2 inches taller than Murray but is 25 pounds less. At the beginning both boys were throwin' punches but none of them really landed. Both were fighting for balance. Murray fell once because Parros pushed him down but Murray got right back up. Than they decided to be friends for a bit and hug each other. They got tired off that, drifted away to near the glass, and the refs broke it up.

This ones a draw. Neither player got some good punches in. Since I want to make you guys happy I changed my mind and Douglas Murray completely dominated George Parros.

Next!

Here's Joe Thornton vs. Ryan Getzlaf (WHAT!). Yep two skill players fighting. Both have fought plenty of times before (but not each other) and they are both 5'4. Joe out weighs him by 5 pounds. In the previous game Big Joe challenged Getzlaf but he declined. (And now in a very cheesey voice) Now let's see what happens in the next game on the opening face-off.

First things first. When the video starts watch the bottom left corner. You could see Marleau and Perry talking to each other. They hit each others stick and looked like children fighting. I just thought that that was funny

Right when the puck drops both players go right after each other. They get balanced and hold on to each other. Big Joe was throwin them jersey jabs, annoying yet effective. Towards the end Joe got an uppercut in which looked like it landed. After that Joe than wrestles Getzlaf to the ground and falls on top of him.

Big Joe gets the win here. He got more punches in and had more control of the fight. Joe fought without his helmet on and Getzlaf had his helmet on. I think Getzlaf just left his helmet on because he was embarrassed about his balding.

Next!

Ooohh Next we have Joe Pavelski (Yes that little guy) fight Ryan Whitney. This was Joe Pavelski very first fight at any hockey level according to hockeyfights.com. Ryan Whitney has fought at the NHL level before. Whitney is 6'4" and Pavs is 5'11". Whitney only has a 7 pound advantage over Pavelski. For Pavelski this post should be called "Dropping the Glove."

Boyle does a late hit on Perry just as the period ends. A scrum starts from there. Everybody pairs up and Pavelski get's Whitney. At first they just look like they're pushing but I guess they were fighting. Both throw punches that connect. Eventually the refs break it up.

Pavs get the win. He made Whitney bleed! But you also have to consider he had a glove and visor on. But still! This is Joe Pavelski pickin on guys bigger than him. Good for you Joe Pavelski! Oh and I'm sorry you guys had to listen to the homer Duck announcers in that video.

Well folks this is the end of the last Dropping the Gloves and I'm gonna miss it. Wait what? There's a poll? Go go look at it now. Sorry if it's not pointless enough.

 	<fieldset class="poll-box">

Bringing down Mark Purdy. FJM style.

Mark Purdy is a moron. He pisses off Shark fans. How does he have his job again?

I don't know if you guys are familiar with this blog called Fire Joe Morgan.. They were brilliant. Every terrible baseball article, they ripped them. It was fantastic. Sadly their blog ended but when I'm bored I still read old posts because they're awesome.

So here's Mark Purdy trying to make sense of the Sharks loss.

Purdy: Marleau seems likely to go, though many share blame

That's a fantastic idea... /sarcasm.

Perhaps the Sharks did not look at that Presidents' Trophy closely enough. Did they check the fine print? Maybe the trophy was named in honor of William Henry Harrison — the U.S. president who died of pneumonia on just his 32nd day in office.

Wait? So you were that A-hole on Chronicle Live that kept cutting off Jamie Baker?

Even so, William Henry lasted 20 days longer than the Sharks did this spring as presidential standard bearers. It took the Sharks just 12 days to be eliminated from the Stanley Cup tournament, which lasts two months.

Yep, that was you... Terrible joke that's not even funny.

Early departure times are normal for the Sharks. But this one was the absolute worst. After working the entire season to earn the NHL's overall No. 1 seed, the Sharks casually let home-ice advantage slip away in the first game against Anaheim and rolled downhill from there.

So you're trying to depress Shark fans now? Tell us something new

The Sharks were supposed to be built to handle anything. They couldn't even handle the top line of the eighth-seeded Ducks or their previously anonymous, inexperienced Swiss goalie.

So that's new. It's new because no moron would say it except for you. Anonymous inexperienced Swiss goalie? Maybe you don't know him because that was about the 3rd hockey game you ever watched but Jonas Hiller is 27 years old and has been playing professional hockey for quite some time.

Maybe they couldn't handle the top line of the eight-seeded Ducks because they are one of the TOP top lines of the NHL. If Purdy watched hockey he'd know that Anaheim isn't an average 8 seed team

After such a rancid display — one that basically took dynamite to the carefully formed how-to-win-a-Cup philosophy of Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson — the next steps for him and the franchise will not be easy. Or simple.

Was that just me or did that make no sense at all.

Well, except for one part. It's hard to fathom that Patrick Marleau can remain with the Sharks. He has to be traded, even if he has a no-trade clause. Why would Marleau even want to come back? This was his fifth season as team captain and either his teammates are not following his
Advertisement: quiet leadership or else the leadership is non-existent. There are no other possibilities. Either way, it's not helping the Sharks get anywhere.

So I'm going to skip on how good Patrick Marleau is in the playoffs because a Sharks fan should know that. So Purdy you're in the locker-room behind closed doors? You don't know how Marleau leads the team, nobody does. Except for the team and if the team's keeping him captain, as you said for 5 years, he has to be good at it or something right?!

Marleau is a classy guy away from the rink, does lots of good work for the San Jose community. But on the ice, he is a maddening player to watch, one who teases you into trusting his talent before the inevitable letdown. Example: He scored both of the Sharks' winning goals in the series. But in the games they lost, he was a vapor.

Damn right Marleau's a good guy. I think I might agree with you there. When the Sharks lost, it was Marleau's fault because he let in too many goals.

Some of us were fooled into thinking the Sharks would be fine in the playoffs, even after a so-so final month of the season, because of a two-game swing to Alberta in late March. The Sharks beat Calgary and Edmonton in back-to-back games. A few days later, the Sharks beat the Ducks in Anaheim. Three wins, over three good teams, right? All was well.

Edmonton's a good team? Further proof that Purdy doesn't watch hockey.

Curious fact: Marleau was injured and did not play in any of those three games. And when he did return a few days later, he and his teammates plainly weren't prepared mentally to face an Anaheim team that was entering the postseason on an upswing. The Ducks also wanted it more. Teemu Selanne, the former Shark who scored a goal for Anaheim in the series clincher, was unafraid to say it.

So you're saying that if Marleau wasn't there in the playoffs he wouldn't have scored those GWG's therefore making the Sharks win more games?!! WTF?!

"You have to build momentum through the playoffs," Selanne said after the series clincher. "We came in playing very well. I thought we were hungrier. "... I think San Jose was cruising all year. They didn't really have any hard times. Sometimes that can be dangerous."

I bet your next post is about how Nabokov's a cry baby. Oops I meant Nahbuhkov because you don't even know how to say Nabokov.

It would be a mistake, though, to point just one finger at one Shark. Rookie coach Todd McLellan deserves some heat for not recognizing more quickly his team was going off the rails and responding to it with some tough love. That didn't happen until after Game 4. Additionally, McLellan too often seemed to be countering the moves of Anaheim Coach Randy Carlyle, rather than making Carlyle do the countering. Did that send a message to the Sharks players?

Yep. T-Mac just saw the Sharks losing and said, "Oh! We're losing, I'm not gonna adjust anything!" What do you know Purdy, you're not the coach.

Additionally, McLellan too often seemed to be countering the moves of Anaheim Coach Randy Carlyle

umm Carlyle's moves were countering the Sharks moves so Toddy was countering Carlyle countering the Sharks.

Goalie Evgeni Nabokov also was culpable in the defeat, though not as much as the second line of Milan Michalek, Joe Pavelski and Ryane Clowe. Hate to say it, but Nabokov has not been the same since the death last year of his former coach and mentor, Warren Strelow. The Sharks don't have anyone in the system to replace Nabokov, and he's still better than half the NHL starters, so they'll just have to hope he pulls his game back into shape. The Pavelski line, which was the Sharks' most consistent during the season, produced two goals in the six games against Anaheim.

Umm maybe Nabakov is getting old or declining not because of the death of Warren Strelow (RIP). Yep Nabby's better than half of the NHL startes so let's hope he get's back in shape. The Pavelksi line was accountable for approx. 27% of the goals in the Sharks in the regular season. In the playoffs they were 22% of the goals.

And, yes, Joe Thornton is in the mix somewhere. His top gear again clicked in too late. When he dropped the gloves right after the opening faceoff Monday, it looked more like frustration than calculated aggression.

I assume you don't watch much hockey fights Purdy?

A scene I won't forget from Monday night: Around 30 minutes after the game, I walked out of the Sharks' dressing room and found Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller standing in the hallway outside the door, all by himself, still unshowered and wearing his Ducks underwear.

You try to write articles AND you're a creeper!!

"Are you waiting for someone?" I asked Hiller.

"Joe," he answered, referring to Thornton, who had been a teammate of Hiller's in Switzerland during the NHL's 2005-06 lockout.

I had to inform Hiller that Thornton already was gone. After a rapid trip through the handshake line with the Ducks, Thornton showered quickly and exited. Thornton is the Sharks' best player. He needs to stay, unless he's sick and tired and wants out. He looked angry Monday night. Does that mean he finally has learned you can't ease your way into a playoff series but have to be at pentium processor speed from the first faceoff?

He was angry? Really!

Which leads to a final thought: The Sharks' chemistry wasn't quite right this season. Wilson thought he was doing the right thing by bringing in all those veteran players — Dan Boyle, Rob Blake, et al. — and pointedly touting their Stanley Cup credentials. Wilson said it over and over: These guys were the ingredient to guide younger Sharks deep into the playoffs.

Those younger Sharks respected Boyle and Blake as players, but might have grown sick of that mantra — or even worse, came to lean too much on the Stanley Cup vets. And when 43-year-old Claude Lemieux showed up, as sincere as the day is long but not close to being the player he once was, younger Sharks might have seen it as one mantra addition too many.

I completely agree because Devin Setoguchi told me he wants to play bad because the Sharks signed toooo many veterans.

I'll repeat what I wrote two weeks ago: If the Sharks didn't get to the Stanley Cup finals this time with this "core" group, there is no reason to believe that a Cup will ever happen. Mr. Wilson, the next moves are yours.

At least no one has pneumonia. Heck, the Sharks weren't around long enough in the playoffs to even catch a cold.

In conclusion Mark Purdy, YOU SUCK!

TORREY MITCHELL SIGHTING!! He was wearing a white jersey, that means he was practicing with the 1st or 2nd line. Might just be for practice though.

Apparently Sharks don't like to give autographs to teenage boys. WYN 14 me 7

If you want an autograph from JR, say "Please" and "Thank you"

Jody Shelley is the funniest guy on the Sharks

I wish I was four again so Devin Setoguchi would give me his hockey stick

Dropping the Gloves: Sharks Beat Up on the Coyotes

Hola, haven't had one of these in a while (I say that every time huh). Well the Sharks just lost to the Coyotes so on this post you could watch the Coyotes getting beat up to make you feel better. Also you could stare at how ugly their logo used to be:

  via www.highlandmint.com

Oh and on this post I'm introducing the "Entertainment value scale." Lets say Brad Staubtiz is a 10 and Rob Blake is a 2.

So first off, this goes way back on March 28th. Travis Moen battles Daniel Winnik:

Both players square up, and drop the gloves. Than they go into battle stance! Moen grabs Winnik first, and Winnik does the same after. Both throw those annoying, yet effective sweater-jabs. Than they start throwing the big ones, but they don't really make contact. They do that for awhile until Moen starts punching over and under Winnik. Winnik gets turned aside, and the refs break it up.

Travis Moen gets the win. He had control of the fight and got more punches in. Entertainment value? I give it a 5

Now from today's game, Todd Fedoruk vs. Travis Moen:

Travis Moen puts a clean hit on Ed Jovanovski. Jovanovski put's his glove in Moen's face and says, "Let's go." Todd Fedoruk got in the middle and tells Jovanovski, "I've got this." Semmy drops the gloves with Jovanovski and they hold onto each other watching Moen and Fedoruk fight. So, Moen and Fedoruk start to fight. Fedoruk throws two punches causing Moen to get off balance. When Moen's not expecting it Fedoruk throws two heavy punches and Moen drops. He gets back up again but Fedoruk drops him down again. Moen's down and the refs break it up.

Fedoruk got the win but Moen got the moral victory. Not sure how, but I want Moen to win so it would make me feel better. Entertainment value? A 3 since we're Shark fans.

Now Martin Hanzal fights Devin Setoguchi (WHAT?!):

Before you watch you should know Hanzal's been in three fights before twice in the NHL. Seto's been in 9 and 1 in the NHL (both players stats include this fight).

Seto and Hanzal collide a few times and they say, "Hey let's go." They both drop the gloves. I like this move here by Setoguchi. Team's down 3 goals and he's trying to spark something. This fight is basically two enforcers fighting in slow motion. Both players try to be stronger than the other and gain ground on the other. Hanzal got a one punch in and Setoguchi got a three in. Hanzal than slowly falls on top of Seto.

In terms of punches Seto wins. In terms of overall fight, who had control and take downs, it's a draw. Nobody got a good punch in. Entertainment value? a 4 since Setoguchi fought.

And for today's pointless poll:

 	<fieldset class="poll-box">
  <legend>Poll</legend>

Will you answer my pointless poll?

100%

No, I refuse to do such a thing.

22 votes

22 votes

    | Poll has closed

  FastInit.addOnLoad(function(){
    new SBN.Poll('poll_container_39124_1032405031').animateResults({renderImmediately:true});
  });

Dropping the Gloves: Brad Staubitz could fight good, really really good

Updated: Not only could Brad Staubtiz fight really, really good, he could fight really, really well.

Today I picked two fights. One was awesome. One not so much. I'm pretty sure you could figure it out.

First off we have Rob Blake vs. Daniel Winnik of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Yeahhh uhh Rob Blake undresses Daniel Winnik. Okay, seriously now, I showed this not because this was a great fight that everyone needs to see, but to show how Rob Blake is a team player. Winnik laid out a hit on Dan Boyle that hurt him. Blake says, "hey if you mess with our star players, you're gonna pay." Blake didn't really make Winnik pay by hurting him, if you couldn't tell. He just got the meaning across to the Coyotes that they shouldn't make a run at the Sharks players.

This is why I think the "staged" fights need to be in the game. If Blake was unable fight Winnik Shelley or Staubitz would be roughing up the other team's star players because that would be the only way to get back. Other team gets angry. Mass brawl breaks out (and maybe a goalie fight if you're lucky). Suspensions go to everybody. If the league just let Blake fight Winnik that would not have happened. All of that would be over with.

Okay now for the awesome fight:

Brad Staubitz vs. Jordin Tootoo of the Nashville Predators

Amazing right? This was the third time Staubitz ever fought Tootoo. Twice in the NHL, once in the minors. So the fight starts right after the faceoff. Fighters drop the gloves and skate around. Staubitz was chasing Tootoo for a little bit but they eventually grab a hold of each other. Tootoo throws two punches to Staubtiz. Once Staubitz get's free he unleashes. Staubitz throws approximately 10 lefts. They all contact right in the middle of Tootoo's face. Tootoo was throwing 'em too but they weren't connecting. Staubitz's crazy line of punches ended when Tootoo put his head down, causing Staubtiz to punch his helmet. That's probably when Staubitz hurt his hand. Than Staubitz switches up and get's about two rights in. The refs than break up the fight. Later you could see Tootoo's bloody face. Win? It easily goes to Staubitz.

And now for today's <strike>easy/biased</strike> poll:

 	<fieldset class="poll-box">

Hello Alls. Today I've got three fights for you today. One from last Saturday, and two from Tuesday. So you ask, "but the Sharks only fought once on Tuesday!" That is right but on Tuesday I ventured off of FTF grounds and went to St. Louis Game Time. I watched part of the Blue's vs Wing's game. During that game I witnessed a crazy fight that seemed like it would never end. It was so awesome it needs to be shared with you. But before we get to that we have to stick to our beloved Sharkies.

First off, Jody Shelley vs. Georges Laraque:

Before the fight starts, Laraque runs into Dan Boyle. Nothing big, just a hit. Jody Shelley gets over there, makes sure Laraque knows what happens if you mess with a star player. The heavy-weights drop the gloves. Shelley immediately goes for a right. Unfortunately Laraque dodges it, and Shelley loses balance. Laraque takes this as a sign to go crazy, and he does. He gets several punches in and eventually drops Shelley. While Laraque got the win, the only thing the Sharks know is Shelley stood up for a teammate. You have to respect Jody Shelley. He's awesome.

Brad Staubitz vs. Krys Barch:

Before the fight starts, Staubitz pokes Barch with his stick and says, "Wanna go?" Barch agrees and they drop the gloves. They grab each other around the blue line. After a few turns, Staubitz and Barch start throwin'em. They both unleash a flurry of rights. Staubitz contacted more. Barch leans into Staubitz, and it takes Staubtiz down. He hit the ice hard. This one's a draw, no clear winner (I might add that take down's aren't considered an indicator for wins).

And now for the fight of the day: Cam Janssen vs. Aaron Downey

The boys drop the gloves and it takes a while for them to get a hold of each other. Once they did I thought, "great another hugfest that lasts forever." They stopped huggin each other and started throwing punches. Each one tries to control the other. Janssen starts throw rights and lefts that land. Janssen gets tired for a bit, they hug it out, and Janssen throws one more punch. It's Downey's turn throw'em both they are both exhausted. They hug each other for one last time and the refs break it up. Win goes to Cam Janssen. Awesome fight for Downey being able to hang in there. Same with Janssen
