To Be Young At Heart
I know this past few days has been very hard on Cubs fan...BUT let me tell you. My little great nephew is going to be the Walgreens Celebrity Batkid this Thursday when they play Milwaukee...he is SO EXCITED and so is our entire family. My niece his mother named their dog Lou after Lou P. My two girls have both won the celebrity batkid and were able to meet Mark Grace, Ron Santo, Lou, Girardi, Kerry Wood how much better can it be for a Cubs fan??...I try to still as an adult look through the eyes of a child when I watch the Cubs. Yes the Cubs lost the last two to White Sox, but they won 1 and my daughter who is 12 was screaming in the house and we proudly wore all of our Cubs stuff the next day!! My youngest daughter loves Big Z...and if anyone says anything bad about him she doesn' t like it. Hang in there Cubs fans...don't leave them...they will come back!! REMEMBER talk to a kid at the game or talk to a kid in your neighborhood that lovest the Cubs...they still have the "FAITH" and they still love the Cubs!!!
Batkid Dream Come True
Our daughter was the Batkid Wednesday night. She is still on cloud nine. The Cubs affiliation, Walgreens and WGN do not know how happy this made her. I want to thank them. She has a lifetime of photos from Ron Santo to Kerry Wood. Even with the rain delay, she said, "It was worth it!" We were on our way back to NWI and WGN was on at 12:15 talking about what a long day people would have if they went to the game that day at 4:30. I called in and told them a long day it was. We left Indiana at 2 p.m. and got back to Indiana at 1:30 a.m. Thursday. All for a CUBS game...would we do it again....YES!!! Not too many 10 year old girls would even know who Ron Santo was, but it made her day to have her photo taken with him...thank you again!!! My husband and I are able to see the CUBS through a child's eye...what a different view!!! A wonderful view!!! GO CUBS!!
So long Matt
I know there are a lot of happy people out there, but my daughters are the ones at Spring Training that Matt waived to and my oldest one couldn't believe it tonight. I told her it is all about winning at this level. You can be a nice guy, but tickets don't sell for nice guys. Maybe we will make a trip to Iowa to see Matt.
Hangin in there!!
I have to say my husband, myself and 2 girls are Cubs fan. Went to Spring Training, Matt Murton waived to my daughters and they were thrilled. Well, at this point after the last few days, my husband can hardly watch a game or listen to Ron and Pat, my oldest daughter graduating today is rethinking her Cubs tattoo and I am taking flack every day at work about the Cubs, but...our 10 year old daughter didn't miss a beat yesterday watching the game. She sat there and took in every moment..with a smile on her face..why??? Well, she won the Walgreens Celebrity Batkid contest and is attending a game in August and gets to meet all the players and go on Wrigley field, and she can't wait. I said to her, are you sure you still want to do this, HECK YA..was her reply. Have a little faith!!!!
Wrigley Field Through a Teenagers EYES!!
Our daughter who is getting ready to graduate and head to college wrote this for her high school English class. She was a Walgreens batkid when she was younger and met Sosa, Grace, Girardi and loves the Cubs. Her 18th birthday party was a Cubs party and she doesn't want a graduation cake, she wants a Cubs cake. In one other post, Al spoke of two girls waiving to Matt Murton in spring training. This was the girl...a true believer.
Wrigley Ville, Home of the Bubba Burger, Old Style Beer, Harry Carey's House, Traditional, Amazing, Striking
Walls of Green Ivy,
They tell me you have a revolting wind that never stops and I believe them for I have seen you help the opposing team win games with over the fence hits.
And they tell me you have no parking and I answer:
Yes, it is true I have seen millions upon millions of people walking to your grounds.
And they tell me you are full of disappointments and my reply is:
You let Steve Bartman in your park, and continued the Curse of the Billy Goat.
And having answered so I turn once more to those who mock at this MY Wrigley Field, and I give them back the mockery remarks and say to them:
Come and show me another ballpark with the GREATEST baseball fans in the world.
The ballpark with the best Chicago style Hot Dogs and Bubba Burgers. And baseball players who go from rookies to legends just by sporting the
Chicago Cubs uniform
Uniformed
Winning
Losing
Loving
Crying, Cheering, Crying
Under the lights, and Green Ivy lays a DREAM..
Under the curse of the Billy Goat lies a team with a DREAM
Dreaming even as childish as it seems,
Bragging and dreaming that under the lights and Green Ivy, lies the heart of the city and the people of the city,
DREAMING!!
Dreaming the tradition, amazing, striking,
Dreaming of the unthinkable, homey, proud to be Wrigley Ville, Home of the Bubba Burger, Old Style Beer, and Harry Carey's House!!
LET ME DREAM!!! THE IMPOSSIBLE...UNTHINKABLE..LET ME DREAM AS A CHILD!!
