"I don't know. I'm not psychic. But I like doing movies and acting. To be honest, as soon as acting pays me more than fighting, I'll be an actor.

It's easier than fighting.

Because in acting you don't get punched in the face?
I don't mind getting punched in the face. It's the getting in shape that bothers me. You've got to understand, it's three months of work for a 15-minute fight. A lot of people don't understand all the pressure and all the -- I guess you could probably say stress or whatever that goes with training or fighting. I don't think anyone would ever know unless they've trained for a fight. You've got fans you don't want to let down, and then you've got fans who cuss you and you wish you could slap them. Whether you win or lose a fight you've got fans who say stuff. When you're a fighter, people look at you a certain way, they treat you different. Acting is easy. Fighting is reality."

As a Rampage fan I find some discomfort in his answers. Sure he fights for the money, but is he not fighting for love of the game anymore? I for one love training and seeing how much my body can take, then recover, and do it all over again. It sounded like he's focused on Wand in the Interview, so who knows!

UFC 90 Tanks on PPV; Lowest Buyrate for Anderson Silva

Impact Wrestling has the Scoop! What I find interesting is the second part of the article I posted, about how UFC 91 will do in it's attempt to reach 1.2 million buys. I think Dana was mostly speaking positively about the event and why would he under shoot the PPV buys. Look at how 50 cent and Kanye created a stir when 50 claimed he was going to sell so many records more than Kanye. I think it worked, it got people talking more about the event! So how about that economic factor? Or is it just Anderson Silva to blame?

The numbers for the Anderson headlined PPV were worse than normal. Silva usually draws in the 330 to 350k range for ppv buys.

This low of a number doesn’t bode well for the predictions of 1.2 million buys for UFC 91. With an unprecedented level of promotion for this Anderson fight generating a drop in numbers, the economic factors seem to be having a negative effect on the UFC PPV buys. The “ten friends, beer, pizza” analogy used as a talking point by UFC brass may sound good but may not be reality in describing the PPV purchasing habits of their customers, judging from these numbers.

COTE was told 3 weeks ago to Scrap bout with Anderson

I found this interesting tidbit over at 411mania

-Patrick Cote was told three weeks ago to get surgery on his knee and to cancel his UFC 90 fight against Anderson Silva.

There was no source for where this information came from, but it's not surprising Cote put it all on the line for the biggest fight of his career. I wouldn't say it was the smartest move with my personal knowledge of Knee problems. No one goes into the fight 100% but your knees are crucial for every aspect of MMA. I wish him the best in his recovery.

It took Silva (22-4) just 61 seconds to defeat his last opponent, James "The Sandman" Irvin at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas July 19, but that is par for the course for "The Spider", who burst on to the UFC scene two years ago. His list of victims started with a devastating knockout of Chris Leben in June 2006. He followed that up with two TKOs over Rich Franklin, a submission win over Travis Lutter, a TKO over Nate Marquardt and a second round submission over PRIDE 183-pound champion Dan Henderson. Silva, considered by most to be the most dominant force the UFC middleweight division has ever seen, now faces number one middleweight contender Patrick "The Predator" Cote.

"It's an honor to be fighting Patrick Cote in the first UFC event ever in Chicago," said Silva. "I'm excited to take on Cote, but I am taking him very seriously; he is a dangerous striker and he likes to stand and trade with his opponents. That's the kind of fight fans like to see, and that's definitely the fight we're going to give them Oct. 25."

UFC made it official on their Website! But after watching Silva destroy Irvin, it's strange, but I just cant get excited to see this fight. Cote probably has nothing more than a punchers chance at beating Silva. I'm real eager to see who can test Silva, he is the man right now and I'll be pulling for Cote to pull off the upset. Everytime I picked someone to upset Silva it has backfired! Looks as if Dana and Silva really are going to stick to their word and have Silva fighting every 3 months.

I've gotta give props to Affliction. It looks like they wont take this battle with the UFC lying down. I'm amazed that the Fertittas and Mr White allowed this to happen in "THEIR TOWN."

Affliction announced Thursday that its "Banned" event on July 19, which takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, will air live on closed circuit television at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, directly across the street from the Palm Hotel & Casino, the site of the UFC Fight Night special headlined by Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin.

The viewing at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino will begin with the Fox Sports Net broadcast at 5pm PT followed by the pay-per-view broadcast at 6pm PT.

I was parading around the internet and found this article on MMA JUNKIE. I had previously thought this card was on July 26th the weekend after UFC and AFFLICTION go head to head. Maybe they just goofed on the dates I dunno! That would make it a decision whether to watch 2 free fights or pay for one and tivo the other. Unless of course you have two DVR boxes!

Jake Shields targets Nick Thompson for EliteXC title fight by John Morgan on Jun 28, 2008 at 9:30 am ET EliteXC's first-ever welterweight champion will be determined in July, when the organization returns to the CBS airwaves. Veterans Jake Shields (20-4-1) and Nick Thompson (36-9-1), each riding impressive win streaks, will square off for the belt.

Shields can't wait.

After all, he hand picked his opponent.

Shields discussed the events leading up to the bout on a recent edition of TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

"I'm really excited about this fight," Shields said. "I think we're both, me and Nick, right at the top of our group. We're both on a huge win streak. This is the fight I asked for."

The title fight takes place July 19 at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif. Shields expected to fight on the nationally televised event, but he didn't initially expect Thompson to be his opponent.

Matt Hughes UFC 85 KNEE Injury

Matt Hughes has torn MCL, PCL in knee Posted June 25th, 2008 by Fight Ticker

Matt Hughes reports on his blog this week that a doctor has told him that he has a fully torn MCL and a partially torn PCL in one of his knees.

Hughes has been told both injuries may be able to repair on their own without surgery so he is holding off on any surgery right now. He also says that he will be seeking a second opinion.

These injuries were presumably suffered at UFC 85 where Hughes lost by second-round TKO to Thiago Alves and fell awkwardly on his knee in the process. However, Hughes does not confirm this on the blog entry and does not specify which knee is injured.

~Well, it looks like the SERRA vs HUGHES fight is put on hold again. Even if Hughes better days are behind him the SERRA fight is a must. These guys really had the bad blood needed to sell a fight at the end of the TUF season. It's to bad we didn't get to see that happen before Hughes suffered two very tough losses. I hope this doesn't effect him mentally and he comes out 100% against Serra. I can't say i'm leaning more towards hughes, but regardless I hope they both come in shape and healthy.

EliteXC July 26th Update Diaz vs Thomas Denny

I was over on Sherdog and caught this article on Nick Diaz next opponent. Diaz is a pretty well rounded fighter, but I think he is strictly a gatekeeper. Noons has explosive power and the rematch would probably go similar to their first meeting. I think this is a smart move by EliteXC to give him another fight and see if he can't come out with an exciting win or even catapult Denny into contender status.

BTW: I'm sure most people on here already read Sherdog, so is there any point bringing news from their site to here?

Thomas Denny (Pictures) has no problems walking into the lion's den.

The former King of the Cage champion has agreed to face resident troublemaker Nick Diaz (Pictures) in his hometown of Stockton, Calif. on EliteXC's second CBS-televised card at the Stockton Arena on July 26. Contracts are expected to be inked Tuesday.

The 160-pound bout joins a previously announced matchup between the much-vaunted Jake Shields (Pictures) and former Bodog Fight champion Nick Thompson (Pictures) for the vacant EliteXC welterweight crown.

A self-promoting crowd-pleaser, the "Wildman" has waged over 40 battles in the cage since 1999, including key victories over Tony Fryklund (Pictures) and Olaf Alonso.

Denny's three-fight deal with the Pro Elite promotion kicked off against the single-named muay Thai striker Malaipet on a ShoXC "Elite Challenger Series" card last March. Malaipet was disqualified for elbowing Denny to the back of the head at the conclusion of the first round.

Denny and Diaz had been slated to meet in other organizations on two different occasions.

Undefeated in his last two bouts, Diaz was at the center of an in-cage riot at Elite's "Return of the King" on July 14 in Honolulu, after he and his brother Nathan exchanged words and posturing with 160-pound champion KJ Noons and Noons' father, a former pro boxer. Noons was in the midst of his post-fight speech when EliteXC officials summoned Diaz to the cage -- both fighters victorious in their bouts earlier that evening. Diaz and his brother were promptly escorted out by security after both camps went into a frenzy.

Diaz was thought to have been on the fast track to a July 26 rematch with Noons, who coaxed a TKO stoppage out of cageside doctors by slicing Diaz's face to shreds at EliteXC "Renegade" in November 2007.

Former UFC welterweight contender Diaz, 24, has drawn both criticism and praise for his "tough guy" tirades. Not only has Diaz been known to trash talk his opponents in the heat of battle, Diaz has been outspoken at press conferences and in his meandering interviews.

Denny -- who has been escorted to the cage by adult film actresses in the past -- professes to be a fan of Diaz's charged performances in and out of the cage.

"I think his antics are entertaining, but it will be more entertaining when I punch him in the face," said Denny. "I can't wait to shock the world in his own backyard."

UFC Officials Dissapointed with TUF Finale

UFC wanted to air prelim fight on Spike......

Dave Meltzer is reporting that UFC officials were very unhappy about the fights going so long on last night's "Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale" because they wanted to show the Dustin Hazelett vs. Josh Burkman fight on Spike TV. That fight ended up winning "Fight of the Night" honors but wasn't shown due to time restraints.

I had the same feeling coming away from the show, dissapointment! The Riddel vs Rivera fight was about as exciting as Tim Sylvia VS Brandon Vera. Same with the Tanner vs Grove fight. While there was enough action to keep the ref from breaking, it was hardly entertaining and i think I'll call it the "lean and pray"

Ok, if it's anything that get's under my skin, it's when fighters want hand picked opponents on their way to a championship. I can't say Vera did this for a fact, because I have no Idea what this Article says(maybe someone has a translator).

I think this would be an awesome match up for both fighters, so I don't see why either would turn it down!
