Washington Capitals (43-13-8) vs. New York Rangers (29-27-8)
(A look into Sean Avery's bedroom.) The New York Rangers head down 95 to face the Washington Capitals for the final matchup this season. In their third game since returning from the Vancouver Olympic break, the Caps will look to extend their franchise-record home win streak to 13 games, while the Rags will try to avenge Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where they were out shot 55 to 16.. DC is 24-3-3 at the Phone Booth this season, with one of their regulation losses coming at the hands of the Rangers behind Marian Gaborik's two third period goals. Although Gaborik has 35 of the Rangers 167 goals this season, and is 4-2-6 in three games against the Caps this season, there's no saying if he will test his injured groin on the notoriously bad Verizon Center ice. Ryan Callahan has been able to step up in Maid Marion's absence however, netting 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 7 games. He is the Rangers' second leading scorer (17 g), and is second on the club in power play goals (8) - all while being second in the league in hits (246). Although Alex Ovechkin has been in a bit of a drought lately, he should be able to shake his season long 5-game goal drought this evening, as he has pierced New York for 13 goals and 9 assists in 19 games in his career - and has scored 3 goals in 3 meetings this season. Also, be on the look out from hard skating top to bottom today, as every member of the Caps roster is fighting for ice time following the acquisitions of Eric Belanger, Joe Corvo, and Scott Walker - who nearly doubled his goal production for the entire season while lighting the lamp twice on Thursday against the Lightning. |

FLAMES SEND JOKINEN, PRUST TO RANGERS FOR HIGGINS, KOTALIK
Report taken from tsn.ca
While it took some time, in the end the Calgary Flames finally got their men as the 'on again, off again' trade between the Flames and New York Rangers is about to be consumated as the trade call is currently going through with the NHL.
The deal, which sees Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust heading to Manhattan in exchange for Chris Higgins and Ales Kotalik, was reportedly held up because the Flames wanted Jokinen in the lineup for tonight's game against the Flyers. Jokinen played just over 15 minutes, took three shots on net and finished at a minus-one. Prust skated just over seven minutes.
There had also been reports that Kotalik was not prepared to waive his no-trade clause to go to Calgary; however earlier in the day he reportedly changed his stance to accept the move.
Jokinen was originally acquired by Calgary from the Phoenix Coyotes at last year's trade deadline. The 31-year old veteran has 11 goals and 24 assists in 56 games with the Flames this season.
The 25-year old Prust was drafted by the Flames in the third round of the 2004 draft, and was traded to Phoenix at last year's trade deadline in the deal that brought Jokinen to Calgary. Prust was then traded back to the Flames last summer for Jim Vandermeer. The native of London, Ontario has one goal and four assists in 43 games this season in Calgary.
Kotalik, 31, had been sent home from New York's road trip earlier on Sunday after being told by the team that he would be traded. He has been scratched by head coach John Tortorella in eight of the club's last nine games. Kotalik was signed to a three-year, $9 million deal as a free agent by New York last summer.
In 45 games, Kotalik has eight goals and 14 assists, with a plus/minus of -18. His best offensive season was with the Buffalo Sabres in 2005-06, when he scored 25 goals and added 37 assists.
Higgins, 26, is in his first season with the Rangers after he signed with New York last summer. Originally, the Montreal Canadiens had traded his rights to the Rangers prior to the July 1 free agent signing period.
Starting in 2005-06, Higgins had three straight seasons in which he scored 20 or more goals with Montreal, but his production dropped to 12 last year in an injured-shortened season. This season he has six goals and eight assists in 54 games.
This is the second major deal that the Flames have pulled off in as many days after shipping Dion Phaneuf, Fredrik Sjostrom and prospect Keith Aulie to the Maple Leafs on Sunday in exchange for Matt Stajan, Ian White, Niklas Hagman and Jamal Mayers.
