Alexei Ramirez or Ryan Theriot?
In light of new development in New York it is probably right time to open up a debate which of these could be available Shortstop White Sox should pursue and at what cost?
Alexei Ramirez
Ryan Theriot
Juan Uribe
My vote goes to Ramirez as we have had enough of sub 700 guys.
Center Field Research
Tuesday - IE Problem Fixed
Here is little research I tried to put together for upcoming
Center Field Market. Thought came to me when I was thinking how
any team is going to be able to afford all these 5/70 (and in Jones case 7/100?)
contracts for 32+ players and survive. Here is my baseline FA list.
Andruw Jones
Torii Hunter
Kosuke Fukudome
Aaron Rowand
Mike Cameron
Corey Patterson
Milton Bradley
Kenny Lofton
Here is current position analysis for all teams
Team Current Depth Need
Orioles Corey Patterson (L) Freddie Bynum (L) Tike Redman (L) Yes
Red Sox Coco Crisp (S) Jacoby Ellsbury (L) Brandon Moss (L) No
Yankees Melky Cabrera (S) Johnny Damon (L) Bronson Sardinha(L) No
Rays B.J. Upton (R) Jonny Gomes (R) No
Blue Jay Vernon Wells (R) Alex Rios (R) No
White So Big Laugh Bigger Laugh Biggest Laugh Yes
Indians Grady Sizemore (L) Kenny Lofton (L) Gutierrez (R) No
Tigers Granderson(L) Cameron Maybin (R) Ryan Raburn (R) No
Royals David DeJesus (L) Joey Gathright (L) Shane Costa (L) No
Twins Torii Hunter (R) Jason Tyner (L) Lew Ford (R) Yes
Angels Gary Matthews Jr(S) Reggie Willits (S) Nathan Haynes (L) No
A's Jeff DaVanon (S) Nick Swisher (S) Colby Lewis (R) Yes
M's Ichiro Suzuki (L) Adam Jones (R) Willie Bloomquist(R) No
Rangers Marlon Byrd (R) David Murphy (L) Brad Wilkerson (L) Yes
Braves Andruw Jones (R) Willie Harris (L) Yes
National Austin Kearns (R) Nook Logan (R) Ryan Church (L) No
Mets Carlos Beltran (S) Milledge (R) Endy Chavez (L) No
Philies Aaron Rowand (R) Shane Victorino (S) Jayson Werth (R) Yes
Marlins Alejandro De Aza(L) Alfredo Amezaga (S) Reggie Abercrombie(R) No
Cubs Jacque Jones (L) Felix Pie (L) Craig Monroe (R) Yes
Reds Josh Hamilton (L) Norris Hopper (R) Jason Ellison (R) No
Astros Hunter Pence (R) Chris Burke (R) Eric Bruntlett (R) No
Pirates Nate McLouth (L) Nyjer Morgan (L) Jose Bautista (R) No
Cardinal Jim Edmonds (L) So Taguchi (R) Skip Schumaker (L) No
Brewers Bill Hall (R) Corey Hart (R) Gabe Gross (L) No
Dodgers Juan Pierre (L) Andre Ethier (L) Matt Kemp (R) No
Padres Mike Cameron (R) Milton Bradley (S) Brady Clark (R) Yes
Giants Dave Roberts (L) Randy Winn (S) Rajai Davis (R) Yes
Rockies Ryan Spilborghs (R) Cory Sullivan (L) Clint Barmes (R) No
D'Backs Chris B. Young (R) Eric Byrnes (R) No
We can completely eliminate some teams from this list. eg.(Blue Jays, Astros, Rays,
Tigers no need) to (Marlins, Pirates, Nationals, A's Can't afford/won't spend) so
my new list becomes
Orioles Corey Patterson (L)
White Sox Big Laugh
Twins Torii Hunter (R)
Rangers Marlon Byrd (R)
Braves Andruw Jones (R)
Philies Aaron Rowand (R)
Cubs Jacque Jones (L)
Padres Mike Cameron (R)
Giants Dave Roberts (L)
Now, if Twins, Braves and Padres had intention to spend they would have signed their
prospective FAs so we can take them out at least for first 6 FAs on the list. I think
Phillies sign Rowand, Rangers sign Hunter and Braves sign Patterson and we can eliminate
Lofton so new list becomes
Andruw Jones
Kosuke Fukudome
Mike Cameron
Milton Bradley
Orioles Corey Patterson (L)
White Sox Big Laugh
Cubs Jacque Jones (L)
Giants Dave Roberts (L)
I don't know if Cubs and Giants can afford another 100 mil contract and go wrong.
White Sox won't deal with Boras so if Jones ends up getting 100 mil + I think Boras
goes to Hall
I think at the end of the day it is very good chance White Sox end up with Fukudome for 3/30 or
something.
Oooffff... let's dicuss

Hate to bring this up right now when nation is down, but it doesn't get any better. If payroll is increased upto 110M we will have about 16M to replace Buehrle and Dye. I am assuming they might non tender couple of guys.(Erstad, Crede, Mackowiack) and trade couple of others(Garland/Contreras). Since there is a talk that they will match Buehrle's offer, I am assuming they might offer him 4/52M with vesting option for 5th year at same AAV. that will mean that if we are dreaming of Andrew Jones or Miguel Cabrera, we may want to hold off.
Why would Garland be available
Why would Red Sox think that Garland is available? I think this is Gammons' way of starting something out of nothing? Current RedSox rotation Schilling Backett Wakefield Matsuzaka Pappelban/Lester Where would Garland fit? I think they are probably scared to death with their closer situation and are looking to move someone from this group to closer. Or may be they were looking at Gar to close. He is also saying that out of the group of Sox hard throwers, RHP Adam Russel has opened some eyes by throwing 97-98 on radar gun
