Interesting analysis on salary cap and our departed 1B

Thinktank article

This an interesting piece written on revenue sharing, and why or why not a salary cap (or floor) could benefit fans and organizations. The really wonderful part is the arguments that ensue between the differing factions. My personal favorite is the first half of comment 112; wherein the writer suggests that people would be more inclined to contract an STD than admit they were from Oakland!

It must be a really slow sports day when a Baseball salary cap is my highlight! Yay for the Humaitarian bowl... /end sarcasm.

I don't know is anybody else saw this, but I found it interesting. I really enjoyed the fact that the top 2 in the worst category belong to the long time Halo-Hater; Steve Phillips. My favorite line in the article regarding Phillips is: 'Cherish this moment; it's possible nobody will ever be this wrong again.'

Switch Pitcher?

I don't think anybody else posted this yet, so here goes: Pat Venditte was selected in the 20th round in this year's draft, and has begun his minor league career with the Staten Island Yankees. What makes him interesting (and worthy of 8 minutes of your time) is that he throws with both arms. He switches between throwing lefty and righty each time a batter comes up. In a recent game, he faced a switch hitter who kept jumping between the boxes, and that led him to keep switching throwing arms!

desktop

I was (for some unknown reason) surfing through the Indians SBN page, and noticed that they have someone that does a monthly calendar as a downloadable desktop wallpaper. We have to be at least as creative (and tech savvy) as our central Ohio counterparts, and we should also be capable of doing this. Mine is crap, but at least I know who is playing! Grayed out for away. Times would also be a nice thing to add.

Perhaps I'm an idiot!

Perhaps I'm an idiot, but I can't seem to get the downloadable schedule to open for importation into Outlook. I have tried a couple of times with IE and Mozilla, but it keeps erroring (sp?) out. I tried with other teams to see if it was me, and they worked. Does anybody have a copy of the csv file that they would be willing to share?

Interesting and validating

I don't know if anybody else had a chance to read this, but I for one found it interesting. It also validated my dislike and mistrust of my least favorite umpire currently employed. If you've got a minute or five, take a look: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/the-outside-corner/

I did a google for the above mentioned umpire, and came across this http://firedougeddings.com/ as well. Some really good stuff there. I especially liked the camera phone bumper sticker across the chest picture. I wonder if the owner of that site posts here.

Angels looking to go to 7 man rotation!

I don't know if anybody else saw this article this morning, but it made me chuckle. I thought I'd pass it along for your reading pleasure.

I know the Halos are only said to 'be in the mix', but it still makes me laugh. Sometimes I think the NY writers think that the rest of baseball lives to serve the needs of the Yankees and the Mets.

If Cashman is really interested in making a trade, we might be interested in his 3B!

Another possibility at third

The Yakult Swallows have confirmed that they will be posting Akinori Iwamura. He's only 27, hit .311 with 32 homers and 77 RBI. Jim Albright has done some research on converting Japanese stats into what can be expected in MLB. It would be interesting to see what type of interest he garners, and if the Halos might be in the mix.
