Blazer's Edge Open Thread: March Madness (Day 3)

In my opinion, these are the best two days in sports. There's enough games so that there's always something happening, but it's not like Thursday/Friday where you can't focus on everything. Plus, all of the low seeds that didn't at least prove themselves with a victory are gone. Discuss todays games here

Scores:

(3) Villanova 89, (6) UCLA 69 - Final

(2) Memphis 89, (10) Maryland 70 - Final

(1) Connecticut 92, (9) Texas A&M 66 - Final

(5) Purdue 76, (4) Washington 74 - Final

(1) North Carolina 84, (8) Louisiana State 70 - Final

(2) Oklahoma 69, (10) Michigan 57 - Late 2nd

(4) Gonzaga vs. (12) Western Kentucky

(2) Duke vs. (7) Texas

Blazer's Edge Open Thread: March Madness (Day 2)

Upset potentials Utah State and North Dakota State are within shouting distance at the half. Syracuse is blowing out Stephen F. Austin (who, I was excited to learn, have a 5'3" player AND a 27-year-old). Oklahoma State leads Tennessee by 4, also at the half. Arizona St/Temple, Utah/Arizona, Wisconsin/Florida St., Siena/Ohio St., Cleveland St./Wake Forest, Xavier/Portland St. (Go Viks!), West Virginia/Dayton, USC/Boston College all on tap for later, plus what should be some 1/16 and 2/15 blowouts

Talk about the games here

Final Scores:

(3) Syracuse 59, (14) Stephen F. Austin 44

(3) Kansas 84, (14) North Dakota State 74

(8) Oklahoma State 77, (9) Tennessee 75

(6) Marquette 58, (11) Utah State 57

(6) Arizona State 66, (11) Temple 57

(1) Pittsburgh 72, (16) East Tennessee State 62

(3) Missouri 78, (14) Cornell 59

(11) Dayton 68, (6) West Virginia 60

Addicted To Quack NCAA Football Chat: 12/6

With no Duck game, I figured there wouldn't be a Gameday Thread, so chat about today's games here. The two big ones nationally are Florida/Alabama for the SEC Championship in Atlanta, and Oklahoma/Missouri for the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City. Despite being ranked #2 in the country, the Crimson Tide are 10-point underdogs to the red-hot Gators. If 'Bama wins, they secure their spot in the title game, while Florida is likely in if they win. Meanwhile, the Sooners can probably clinch their spot in the game as well with a victory. They are laying 17.5 points against the Tigers. On a local level, two Pac-10 rivalries and a major mismatch are what we have to work with. Rick Neuheisel will get his first taste of the crosstown rivalry that dominates LA football. The USC Trojans travel to the Rose Bowl, with the chance to clinch a return trip in a month with a victory. If UCLA can pull the upset, Oregon State would back into the Rose Bowl despite their Civil War defeat. USC is favored by 33. Up north in Berkeley, Tyrone Willingham coaches his final game as head coach at Washington. The Huskies are currently 0-11, and the Cal Golden Bears are heavy favorites (35.5 points) to finish off the Dawgs' winless season at home. Jahvid Best needs 171 yards to take the rushing title, and should get it easily against UW's porous D. Finally, down in Tuscon, Arizona State QB Rudy Carpenter will take his Sun Devils to U of A looking to go 4/4 in his career against the Wildcats. The Sun Devils become bowl-eligible with a win but are currently 12-point dogs.

Addicted To Quack Is our athletic department too lenient?

I was interested to learn from this blog post that Ernie Kent is the longest-tenured basketball coach in the Pac-10. Mike Bellotti is also the longest-tenured football coach. While we have enjoyed our greatest successes as a program under these two, we have also had seasons that were underwhelming enough that they would have gotten coaches fired at other schools. I'm not saying that I think Mike or Ernie should be fired, only that it's interesting that a school with a decent but not great level of athletic success would have the longest-tenured coaches in both major NCAA sports. So, I pose the question to the world, is our AD too lenient and loyal with their staff decisions?

We are pic #138. Roy is too low, everyone else seems about right. I expect Oden will go up once he actually plays and they have something to work with.

Addicted To Quack Watching the Ducks (and CFB in general) online?

I have been relocated to Germany basically until sometime next Summer, and with football right around the corner, I was wondering if you guys know where I could catch the games online, preferably through live streaming, but also through torrents or some other type of non-live video. Obviously I would like to see all the Ducks games if possible, but I am also a football fan in general so it would be cool to watch some of the other big games. Any thoughts?
