James Young selects Kentucky over Michigan State

The highest-rated senior in the state of Michigan made his decision today and chose Kentucky as expected. Michigan State followed Young closely throughout the year and Coach Izzo and staff suffered a rare recruiting miss in pursuing the five-star SG

MSU BBall Recruiting Round-Up (9/27/12)

Jabari Parker has to reschedule his visit to Michigan State but The Only Colors is ready to tell you why that might be a good thing. We also have updates on Tyus Jones, Keita Bates-Diop, Hyron Edwards, and other MSU basketball recruits.

MSU gearing up to recruit Jonathan Williams?

Jonathan Williams, the 4-star Memphis PF, has not been in the forefront of the MSU recruiting picture for 2013 but Brian Snow of Scout told Sam Webb that Williams is headed to MSU on the 28th of September for an official visit. A local Chattanooga outlet also mentions increased MSU interest.

MSU Basketball Recruiting Round-Up (9/11/12)

The newly started Recruiting Period has brought lots of news for MSU recruits like Tyus Jones, Jalen Coleman, James Young, and now Trey Lyles. The Only Colors catches up on the offers and visits as we get into the Fall recruiting cycle.

JaQuan Lyle Sets Up MSU Visit and Others

JaQuan Lyle is a consensus five-star 2014 PG/SG from Evansville, Indiana. He has attention from Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana, Georgetown, OSU, and our own Michigan State Spartans. Lyle has recently set up multiple fall visits. He'll be at Michigan State on Sept. 15 for the MSU-ND game, Kentucky's Big Blue Madness on Oct. 12th, and IU's Hoosier Hysteria on the 20th of that month. He can't take officials until Jan. 1 but this could be a sign that Lyle is interested in aggressively advancing his recruitment as he's scheduling like a senior.

MSU Basketball Recruiting Round-Up (Labor Day 2012 Edition)

The summer is over and The Only Colors looks towards the fall as Michigan State sets up official visits for its 2013 basketball recruiting targets and advances on securing its 2014 class and beyond.

MSU Basketball Recruiting Round-up (July 2012 G&W Kool-Aid Edition)

The second weekend of July evaluation sent MSU coaching staff out pursuing a monster set of classes for 2013 and 2014. MSU is working hard to land elite recruits like Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, and James Young with other targets out with injuries.

Cliff Alexander Picks Up an Offer From Kentucky

I was going to drop this into the Recruiting Round-up but decided that I wanted the opportunity to say that it's likely MSU will continue to be No. 1 for Cliff. In their last two head-to-heads, Izzo leads Calipari 2-0. Even if UK snags James Young, MSU has and will continue to recruit successfully against the Wildcats. No panicking!

MSU Basketball Recruiting Round-up (7/17/12)

The summer evaluation period has kicked off for basketball recruiting but two of Michigan State's top targets, Jabari Parker and Cliff Alexander, are sidelined with injuries. There's still plenty to talk about with updates about other MSU targets.

The Only Colors is getting ready for the July evaluation period when Tom Izzo and staff will be out watching some of the best players in the country like Jabari Parker, James Young, Tyus Jones, Cliff Alexander, and Jahlil Okafor.

WR/SG Drake Harris Commits to Michigan State!

The breaking news is that Drake Harris has selected Michigan State over his other final options of Michigan and Notre Dame. Pete will have a full "Welcome" post up later tonight and I'll have some basketball related thoughts in a Recruiting Roundup early next week. This is a big addition for both MSU football and basketball. Welcome to MSU, Drake Harris!

GR Two-Sport Star Drake Harris to Announce a College Decision Wednesday

Nearly a year after many thought Drake Harris would be an early commit to Michigan State, Drake plans to announce his decision on Wednesday. This comes from multiple sources including Drake and his father. The tea leaves appear to suggest MSU as the choice but Drake has been in close contact with UM and recently received a football offer from Brady Hoke. Harris attended the 2012 Izzo Shootout last weekend.

Here's a nice video interview with Pangos MOP Cliff Alexander after his big-time showing at the California camp. You can watch him cite MSU as his leader from his own lips. It's early but MSU is in GREAT shape with this big forward from Chicago. You can read more about his recent standout performance and love for MSU here .

Michigan State Continues to Watch Chicago Guard Sterling Brown

It's time to add Sterling Brown to the 2013 MSU Basketball Hotlist. Though a darkhorse for an offer, Brown could be a rising senior in the right place at the right time with attention from Michigan State and Coach Izzo.

MSU Basketball Recruiting Round-Up (James Young Emoticon Edition)

It's the end of a very active spring evaluation period and Michigan State coaches and their targets were out in force at AAU events. James Young raised his stock even further and other recruits like Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor maintained their status as Top 5 players. The Only Colors catches up on what went down.

2014 MSU Basketball Recruiting Hotlist

Just in time for April AAU, The Only Colors accounts for the players on the MSU target list for the 2014 class. It's a smaller roster than usual laser-focused on elite talents including Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, Cliff Alexander, and Drake Harris.

Revisiting the 2011 MSU Basketball Recruiting Hotlist

At the year's close, The Only Colors revisits the 2011 Basketball Recruiting Hotlist to look at the players who didn't select MSU for last season. Who was a breakout star? Who hit academic snags? Who watched his team from the bench?

Michigan State - Wisconsin Preview: Q&A with Bucky's 5th Quarter

Phil of Bucky's 5th Quarter talks to our own Pete Rossman about tonight's rematch between Michigan State and Wisconsin. The game is at 7:00PM or 7:00.20PM, we're not sure.

TROY BEATS CLARKSTON 79-74, FIFE SEES YOUNG SHINE

St8izgr8 over at LifeInLansing caught the Troy/Clarkston game everyone is talking about. St8 is not a hype man nor prone to hyperbolic praise so I take his review and numbers seriously. 2013 WG James Young played huge against major Class A competition getting 49 and 20 with Dane Fife in the house. Rankings are only guides - it's performances like these in front of MSU coaches that gets a player an offer.

Jabari Parker to Make an October Decision w/o 5 officials?

Roy Schmidt over at Illinois Prep Bulls-eye is a reputable source and he had this tweet yesterday: "Learned two things yesterday regarding Jabari Parker's recruitment: 1) expect an October decision 2) he may not take all 5 official visits." If Roy is correct on this, that's major news. The earlier talk from Jabari's family has been that they would maximize the recruiting experience with five officials plus in-homes. Hard to say what this means for Duke, MSU, and the rest but I still like Tom Izzo's chances.
