If Windy ends up posting on the Front page a thread for playoff games, I can always delete this one. I just thought we could have a diary where we could post our insights about this week's games.

Saturday's games are Seattle v. Green Bay (3:30 Chicago time) and Jacksonville v. New England (7
Chi time).

Sunday's games are San Diego v. Indianapolis (noon Chicago time) and New York Giants v. Dallas (3:30).

I suppose my initial thoughts are that I'd like to see Seattle win just because I am born to hate the Packers, although I do like Favre. I really want to see Jacksonville win so that the US sports media will immediately lose their perfection erections. Indy and San Diego I don't really care, although I guess I'll somewhat cheer for the Chargers since we played them relatively tough way back in week 1. And I despise both Dallas and New York Giants, so I probably will refrain from even commenting on that game.

Well, somehow the Bears won today. I don't know how, since all of you people who get paid to do this told me the Saints would win.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/features/talent

That the Saints were an offensive juggernaut. That the Bears had no chance. Well, that didn't happen, did it? The Bears won by 25 pts. That's a 3.5 TOUCHDOWN margin. In other words, you won't be able to do your typical cliche-ridden spinjobs and write this off as the 'luck' of the Bears. Although you'll try. You shouldn't be able to rip Rex Grossmann a new asshole, you should learn what some of us here have come to even begrudgingly accept - that the guy is resilient. But you won't learn a damn thing. Cause you'll keep writing horseshit like this:

'Grossman worst Super Bowl quarterback since Eason'

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/don_banks/01/21/snap.judgments/index.html

But I have just a few further questions ...

1st, what is it, exactly, that you guys get paid to do? I swear to God, you are the only people on the planet, next to politicians and weathercasters, who can be completely f'ing wrong every week, develop immediate amnesia about your failure to correctly predict anything, and then continue to pull out of deep orafices further 'predictions'. Some of you, I'd imagine, have a wealth of 'micro'-knowledge about football. Way more than I'll ever possess. But you need to start to understand that you have no ability whatsoever to predict who is going to win any better than we do. Lab chimps along with my parakeet can look at the lines and make a prediction. If anything needs to die a quick death it's the idea that you assholes really know what you're talking about. You don't.

So if you can take a step out of your echo-chambers for one second, you'll realize how sweet this victory was for Bears fans. Aside from the fact that this is an iconic moment in franchise history, the 1st Super Bowl for this team since before some of us were born, you'll realize that part of what has fueled us this year was that we got no respect. We were picked by everyone to lose today. And that didn't happen. Fellas, it wasn't even close.

Sincerely,
A Bears fan

P.S. While I'm at it, to all the cutesy national media outlets who were hoping for the Saints to win it all so that they and all of America could wipe our hands clean of the shame of Katrina, I've got some news for you. New Orleans is still a mess. There is still a diaspora of people who don't have a permanent home. So it would be nice that just because the Saints didn't win today, you'll still try to shine a light on that tragic area, Anderson Cooper can't do it all by himself.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

Ok, I feel better now. So here's what I really want to know from Windy nation. How many drinks did you consume today?
