A standout at Union College, Welsh helped the Dutchmen to the Frozen Four behind 27 goals and 17 assists.

Hamonic Out Two Weeks With Broken Nose

Begin speculation on how he will be replaced in the lineup. Bear in mind though that the Isles have a full complement of defensemen already depending on Milan Jurcina's status (day to day with an elbow laceration). Their next game is Tuesday at Philadelphia. Not exactly a friendly environment for rookie defensemen and close enough in proximity that a call up may not happen until gameday, especially if they're viewing it as an "insurance" call up. Their next three after that are at home.

Alternate Jerseys To Be Unveiled Nov. 16

The always reliable Paul Lukas over at Uni Watch says--about halfway down the page under "Uni Watch News Ticker"--that the Islanders' new sweaters will be torched in an effigy released on the 16th.

A Christmas Treat From the Archives: Jean Shepherd--October 23, 1969.

5

The inimitable Jean Shepherd, perhaps best known for writing and narrating the riotous A Christmas Story, talking about the Miracle Mets, who had won the World Series on the 16th, a little more than a week earlier. Shepherd, a life-long Mets fan, devoted his entire 45 minute segment on WOR to the Mets. It seems apropos to include this on Christmas with TBS' non-stop showing of A Christmas Story. Listening to Shepherd, the consummate storyteller, is the perfect way to ring in the holidays. Editor's Note: at about 6:30, Shepherd talks about the now defunct Expos, referring to them as "the new Mets." An interesting take on that team from Montreal which, by all accounts, should still be there. Even more so, his commentary on the "selective memory" of New York fans remains as valid today as it was 41 years ago. Available (along with many other Shepherd broadcasts) for free and legal (it's now in the public domain) download here.
