I picked a hell of a season to become a season ticket holder.
San Francisco Giants
Golden State Warriors
San Francisco 49ers
Dominican University Lacrosse
Has anyone played this game?
I was helping my dad clean out his garage this weekend and came across an old copy. From what I can tell it's the 1972 version and the team cards and most of the game components are in great shape. The rule book is missing as are the dice and a couple of the little plastic baserunner guys, but it seems to be playable once I recreate the dice.
The team cards are a stat nerd's dream containing player star ratings, defensive boosts, swing outcomes (based on the dice roll) and are fascinating to read through.
The box even contained a handful of boxscores from the 1972 season that my dad had cut out of the newspaper so he could use actual lineups while playing the game.
I'm excited to play.
One Incredible Opening Day - In Photos
This was truly an Opening Day that I will never forget. My dad and I arrived early (as usual) and were some of the first people in the yard.
We settled into our seats to enjoy the finer things in life... sun, batting practice and the company. When suddenly the girls of the Orange and Black Attack come ask us "can you guys act stupid?"
Yes. I am McCoven
Our reward?
Renel gave us a wave.
And the smile couldn't be wiped from either of our faces.
We all know how the game went... LOLineup, THROW STRIKES _______ (Giants Pitcher), Holy ghost of Renteria!, Ground Attack FTW!, etc.
As the crowd filed out Dad and I sat back, put our feet up and sang at the top of our lungs along with Tony.
Tomorrow I will be back in section 328 but I'm sure it will take a while for this grin to be wiped from my face. Amazing day.

Because I know many folks here would just love the opportunity to sit around and read MLBTraderumors.com comments all day and not get paid to do so.
OT: Halloween Costumes
Sitting in the office in my costume today is making me wonder... what costumes are being worn by the creative folks of McCoven?
We'll see if he clears waivers and gets offered back to us.
Epic College Humor Video
Thought I'd share here since we are all glad that our comment stream doesn't fit this mold.
I walked by the yard today on my lunch break and they were removing the dirt from the field. Most of it was gone already, hopefully it will all be gone by Saturday.
Nothing about baseball here really, but I'm looking to move to the city soon and am searching for a roommate or two. I work in SOMA so I'd like to get a place around there (maybe close to the yard - hey there is something baseball related!).
I'm 22, male, pretty quite/clean. If you're interested, or know anyone who might be, send me an email (listed in profile) or just comment here. If you're not interested feel free to post some lolcats.
Guzman, Phelps, Pucetas and others coming too!

Sabean confirmed that he has reconsidered on Rich Aurilia and would like to re-sign the longtime Giants infielder.
Make the Divisional Series a best of one. Eh, no thanks Lew.
Another option down, how long til a fanpost?
Reportedly either $50m over 2 years or $75m over 3.
Agent Ned, "If you saw the bid, it's nothing that we're embarrassed by."
Some of you have probably seen these already, but holy freaking crap.
At lunch today I discovered that Sobe makes a 'Yumberry' flavored beverage.
Footlong yum rockets and a glass of yumberry juice anyone?
OT: McCoven Wiffleball in the city - date ideas?
I know we have tried to get baseball in the park together a couple of times to no avail, but today at lunch I had a similar idea. Wiffleball... since it requires fewer people, it just might work.
Personally I'd love for it to be a weekday lunch time thing if possible. I think playing wiffleball at lunch on a friday would be a great way to end the work week, but I realize that it is probably more realistic some other time.
If there is any interest, we can start hammering out the details.
It's funny, I probably should check my own schedule before proposing dates for this thing. I'll be working the Web 2.0 Summit in the city from the 5-7 so that doesn't work for me either.
It seems like any other Friday works for me though. Those of you who have tighter schedules, is there a day that works best for you?

I'm on my way back to SF from a conference in NYC and there is wifi access on the plane! To my knowledge this makes me the first member to blog from 37,000 feet. A little pricy but pretty sweet in my opinion.
Bonds Invited to OF Reunion
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3519910&POLL351=100000000000000
Personally I doubt that he will actually be there but if he did show it could be a pretty special moment. I also found it pretty interesting that ESPN found it appropriate to put a "How would Barry Bonds be received if he attended?" poll in the article. I mean come one, of course the place would go nuts.
San Jose @ Stockton 7/14/08
I got a chance to check out the little Giants yesterday in Stockton and since there isn't a minor lines for yesterday I am going to share my thoughts here.
SJ 0 - STK 3
San Jose
Denker 0-4 2K
Ortmeier 0-3 K, BB
D'Alessio 2-4
English(L) 6IP, 5H, 3ER, 3BB, 9K
Stockton
Gilbert 2-3 RBI, BB, 2SB
Carter 1-3 HR, K
Fernandez(W) 7.2IP, 0R, 5H, 2BB, 6K
D'Alessio looked pretty good driving the ball the other way for a couple singles but otherwise Fernandez, who was rocking a great looking stache, dominated the entire lineup. The Giants only managed one runner in scoring position in the entire game and that came in the first inning on a Graham double.
English looked pretty solid showing a pretty good fastball, change and curve. His fastball was usually 88-89 with the occasional 91 thrown in there.
Ortmeier looked really bad against the right hander, but I was surprised to see him take his ABs from the left side of the plate. Am I mistaken or did we have him give up on the whole switch hitting thing?
Carter, who the A's acquired in the Haren trade, looked very impressive. He made a great diving stop at third and hit an absolute bomb in the 6th. His home run was his 26th of the season and almost hit the scoreboard in left. How is this guy still in Stockton? He has 26 jacks and 72 RBI on the season (8 RBI in the series).
Trade Deadline "Strategy"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/07/04/SPV611JSSA.DTL
Full story is above but here is the short version
-Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez are not going anywhere!
-No rental players!
-Durham, Aurilia and Omar (like anyone would want him) are available!
-Molina and Winn are not...
My thoughts:
The first three points seem pretty obvious to me, but why is Winn not available? I guess Nate getting some real playing time isn't going to happen until possibly the trade deadline next year when Winn's contract is set to expire... Great job Sabes, make the kid waste another full season.
