2010-2011 Team Wallpapers
Hey Everybody,
I have been killing some time making some cool wallpapers for the 2010-2011 Sharks Team. I plan to release a few every week so check back every now and then.
Considering they are the hottest line on the team right now the first pack will be of the Clowe-Couture-Ferriero line.

Clowe most likely to achieve Gordie Howe Hat Trick in 2010
Gotta Love It. Clowe is a bad ass!
NHL 11 Demo hits Xbox & PS3 Tomorrow
For those of you who are into that sort of thing, the demo of NHL 11 will be available tomorrow on either systems online store.
Demo is set to include the standard offline versus Stanley Cup matchup, as well as a taste of EA's, all new for NHL, EA Hockey Ultimate Team - a cross between a GM mode and online versus play.
Capgeek has been upgraded
It looks like the guys over at capgeek.com have been busy. They have enhanced the Beta Line Editor and made it a more integral part of the site. As a web designer/developer I have to say it is a pretty nice improvement over the previous incarnation. Lots of AJAX wizbang going on there. It looks like they might have consulted with this guy (seriously check the link, best resume EVAR!!!).

BTW - how many of you think of the movie Idiocracy when you hear the word Upgrade
This could be our team to the deadline

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
(these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion)
ROSTER: 22; CAP:$59.4m; CARRY-OVER PENALTY: $0.328m;
PAYROLL: $60.154m; CAP ROOM: $0.176m; BONUSES: $0.930m
So this is the easiest roster to accommodate DW's Hammer of an offersheet (see what I did there?). Basically, we could put Huskins through waivers, and when no team claims him: as I am sure would happen, we send him to the AHL (let's face it: he has only been up for, like, three full seasons). And I don't think how I punctuated that sentence is legit at all.
To boyle it down:
- Boyle w/ a mobile shotdown Dman
- Vlasic w/ Blake's cheaper, funnier, if not slightly less expensive/effective replacement (2.5!!!!)
- Crankshaft w/ a new offensive Dman (Demers) to learn (this means a whole lot more minutes for this D pairing)
The question is: Do you think DW will roll with this until the trade deadline?
How much would you pay for Marc Staal?
So in looking around at potential trade targets to bolster our D corps I started thinking of what it would take to pry Marc Staal away from the Rangers.
First off: as a RFA Marc Staal is looking for a new contract this summer and from what I have been reading it looks like he wants to get paid. Rangers GM not only has a history of some disastrous contracts to RFA but from some accounts also tends to nickel and dime his RFAs (kinda of like an anti-DW).
Now I'm no expert but I would venture to guess that Marc Staal is looking for a contract in the 3.5 - 4 mil range. If we offer-sheeted Staal at these numbers we would have to give up a 1st and 3rd round pick in next years draft. Would I give that up to get Staal on our team. IN A SECOND.
Another option would be to trade for Staal's rights (obviously work with his agent first to get the basics of a deal hammered out) for something like a 2nd + 3rd + Murray + Mitchell + Prospect.
Obviously we would have to move some salary to get him on the team, but all that can be done.
So I ask you - would you make this deal for a 23 year old Shutdown defenseman with some offensive ability, who also happens to be a Staal brother?
Cheechoo on waivers
As reported by TSN: CHEECHOO, KOTALIK AMONG NHL PLAYERS ON WAIVERS
Jonathan Cheechoo, after a poor season that saw him pot only 5 goals, has been placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators. There seems to be an expectation that the last year of his contract is going to be bought out - making him a UFA.
My question: would you like to see Cheechoo back on the San Jose Sharks if he signed a contract for at/under $1M per year?
If so what kind of role would you see him filling on the team?
My First Offseason Rosterbation
So I know it's a little early to start with the rosterbation but, I can't help it. Below is my first thoughts on what the Sharks could do for next year:
What you are probably asking yourself is where is Nabakov and Setoguchi? Rob Blake? Before I get into the players that are not on the roster above let me make my case for the players I think we must resign. Follow me past the jump.
Toronto Not Missing Toskala
Just in case you didn't know: Toskala's post Sharks years have not treated him so well. Down Goes Brown with an open letter with, what I assume, represents all of Toronto's well wishes for their latest former-goalie.
Bringing in Kovy
I know we need better D, but who can't dream about this deal:
Clowe - Pickles - Huskins - 2nd round pick for Kovy - Christoph Schubert
I mean who needs better D when you could have a top six of:
Marleau - Thornton - Heatley
Kovalchuk - Pavelski - Seto/Malholtra
I did all the numbers on capgeek and it works. We would have just enough room to bring up McLaren and McGinn if we wanted to.
I'm probably crazy but that would be awesome!
