Let's Get Positive
Ed.: Bumped from FanPosts
So it's been a rough week here in Tiger Nation. One might even say it's been a rough summer. From getting passed over by realignment, to worrisome injuries, to players and yes, even a coach, doing or being accused of doing really stupid things. While practice information from sources like the inestimable Dave Matter has given us a lot to be optimistic about, there are also a huge number of question marks. Who will fill the ever-more-enormous shoes left at the wide receiver position? Will a talented but largely unproven set of linebackers be able to take up the slack left by Sean Weatherspoon? How will our defense change, and will it improve?
Luckily, the times of uncertainty are nearly over. Less than a week from this moment, our beloved Tigers will take the field against the beleaguered Illini, and, with luck, many of our nagging doubts and worries will be put to rest. We've cleansed our karma. Now it's time to take the next step. Let's get past our doubts and get excited. Let's get positive. It's football season!

Dewey, Truman, and Conference Realignment: Or, A Look at Jumping the Gun
via www.jacklail.com
Everybody's seen this classic image, and most, I think, know the story behind it. President Harry S. Truman, having ascended to his post following the death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, looked to have made one too many unpopular decisions in his first partial term. It was assumed, as it had been throughout his career, that he was an uneducated yokel who had gotten to where he was through a combination of questionable ties and dumb luck, and that his decisions in dealing with issues like the postwar economic upheaval and the formation of Israel made him unlikely to succeed in the 1948 primaries, to say nothing of the presidential election itself. But the game wasn't over for Harry Truman.
There is a useful parallel to be drawn here to our university's current straits. In a time of upheaval, the leadership at Mizzou has made the unpopular decision to verbally commit to the Big 12, which looks to continue its historical pattern of Southern bias. But the game isn't over for Mizzou, either.

Jay Nixon Continues to Be Hilarious
You know, I'm not even upset with the guy. Colorado and Nebraska did suck pretty bad at basketball. Now we just need Jay to read some RMN so he knows that Oklahoma is the new RPI ruiner.
Colorado to the Pac 10 is Official

Kreklow Named Mr. Show-Me Basketball
That's two years in a row CMA signed Mr. Show-Me Basketball. If Dixon's play this past year is any indicator, then Kreklow may be the sleeper of this recruiting class.
CMA's New Contract Released
Thought this might be something people were interested in. I started reading it, but then I got bored. I have a short attention spa - hey, what's that?
This is awkward.
Promoted for Front Page Friday!
I don't know if anyone else saw this, but yesterday ESPN posted a "Clip Reel" of Mizzou Men's Basketball links that included a link to "Statistical Revenge Part Deux." I didn't see it in the links, so I thought I'd post it.
Highlight: a video titled "Quin Snyder: This is awkward." wherein Old Floppylocks sings Eye of the Tiger to the team before a game. No, I'm not kidding.
I wonder what song Mike Anderson sings to these guys before games. I also wonder if Mike Anderson is a better singer than Quin apparently was.
