I looked through free agency and the reality of the players we would have to let go to make thiese moves.

Texans trade thier 13-15th pick to new england for the patriots 23rd and43rd picks, as the pats have 3 2nd round picks.

Texans have to release Antonio Smith ,Dunta Robinson, Fred Bennett, and Antwan Molden on D.

Texans will have to release Chris Myers, Casey Studdard, Chris Brown, Kevin Walter, and Chester Pitts on O.

Texans signings would be signing Richard Seymour to play DT. Resign Benard Pollard,Demeco Ryans and Owen Damiels.As well get C from Titans Kevin Mawae who would be great leadership with a mean streak at C.

A little something different.

Texans trade up into the top 7 to take DT Gerald McCoy (6'4 295) out of Oklahoma in the first round. He is a very mature, talented tackle who already has a variety of pass rush moves and holds his own at the line.

They would probably have to trade thier 1st, 3rd, and one of thier 6th round picks to do it.

2nd round: Mike Johnson - OG - Alabama - 6'6 305 (RG of the future for us, great at run blocking)

4th round: Kurt Coleman - FS - Ohio State - 5'11 195 (hopefully can overtake Wilson)

5th round: - Chris Brown (no not that one) - RB - Oklahoma - 5'11 210 (steady, strong up the gut runner)

6th round - Terrell Hudgins - WR - Elon - 6'3 226 (very big reciver.......Marques Colston maybe??? :)

7th round - Patrick Lavine - OLB/ST - Oklahoma St. - 6'2 215 (hardworking fast backup OLB and ST player)

As for the rest of the offseason we can sign Carlos Rogers CB from the Redskins as he is ready to leave, to replace Dunta, and he won't cost as much. We need to resign Pollard and give Daniels and Demeco extensions. once again this also means goodbye to Walter and Pitts. Also Center Kevin Mawae is probably leaving Tennesee after this season and would bring an upgrade over Myers and vast leadership for a year or two on the O-Line.

I know another long drawn out offseason here by me, but I like the potential for this roster.

My mistake about Cohwer

Try this.

A while back I suggested that Bill Cohwer be our new coach. But the more I thought about his changes all around including the 3-4 defense it just seemed like too long of a transition. But the more I thought about other cantidates, the more I was liking the thought of Jon Gruden if we could him out of the box after this season. He ran a 4-3 cover-2 defense in TB and it worked like a charm. And believe it or not after reading up on the Tampa 2 philosiphy, the more I realized that our players fit it to a charm. Here are my examples:

1: Linebackers must be able to do eveything from cover to blitz: Brian Cushing, Demeco Ryans, (Xavier Adibi if he gets a second chance).

2: Defensive line must be able to solely put pressure on the QB themselves as there is very little blitzing, and the nose tackle must be a very strong run stuffer up the middle, while the other 3 must be quick and athletic to get to the QB. Now I know this has been a huge problem for us, but my small solution is once you let Dunta walk you bring in Casey Hampton (DT) to plug up the middle. Second let Barwin actually develop. He has a lot of work to do against the run, but his pass rushing ability is elite with another offseason of work. He should be splitting time with Smith next year.

3: The Corners dont need to be great man to man coverage players, but must be able to tackle, which I think Glover Quinn and my 1st round pick Patrick Robinson (Fla. ST.) can do well, as well as play strong zone coverage.

4: The Free saftey must be able to cover very well against slot recivers and tight ends. Eugine Wilson has another good year left and can definetly cover. The strong Safety must be a hard hitter who makes recivers think twice about going over the middle. This is why we resign Pollard.

5: A quick note on his offense. It is a similar variation of the west coast offense. He likes his QB's smart and mistake free to manage the game, and loves to use 2 tight end sets (Daniels and Casey).

Get ready for an explosion in 2010.

When we hire Bill Cower in the offseason, he will bring the type of tenacity and leadership this young team needs. He will bring in his own O-Coordinator and D-Coordinator, and change this defense to a 3-4 and draft accordingly. He will also draft accordingly to his smashmouth style of offense. We will let Dunta, Pitts, and Walter walk, freeing up money to resign Daniels, Demeco, Pollard, and bring in Casey Hampton. Here is my Cower mock draft:

These last few moves can make us title contenders.

In the offseason these are my ideas to help us get over the hump. It's nothing major, but just some things to make us complete.

Let Dunta walk, and sign Casey Hampton. Tell ol' Steve Slaton he has to chill on his extension until he stops fumbling!

Let Daniels walk due to his history of knee injuries, and give Walter a new contract, as well as giving James Casey an Oppurtunity.

Re-sign Bernard Pollard..........guy is a beast. Oh and show Chris Myers the front door!!!!!!!

Now in the draft................1st round take a corner to replace Dunta. 2nd and 3rd rounds need to go toward drafting a smashmouth running back and a strong mobile center or offensive guard. This would be my lineups:

New frame of mind

I would love to see Bill Cower and a 3-4 defense in 2010. If we let Dunta walk it would let us bring the hometown boy Casey Hampton here. Then we could draft a corner and safety in the first 2 rounds of the draft. This is how the defense would look.

A look to the future

2010 Houston Texans

I was looking at our prospects for next year, making the jump from playoff contender to title contender. I'm very intriuged by the massive Alabama DT Terrence Cody. He is 6'6 365 and like a brick wall against the run. I was curious on any of you guys thoughts on how he could fit as our nose tackle in the 4-3 defense. I personally think he could thrive as a 2 down run stuffer, helping to free up Mario, Amobi, Demeco, and Connor. If we make or barely miss the playoffs we would pick right around 18-22. If he falls to that spot, he would be a steal for us. We will probably resign the following players: Dunta, Daniels, and Demeco, while losing: Walter and Pitts. I think if we drafted an Offensive Gaurd and Wide reciever around the 3rd and 4th rounds, while taking Cody in the first, and a run stuffing strong safety(Kam Chandellor - Virginia Tech - big run stuffer) in the 2nd that our run defense could flourish, and help to make us one of the top ten defensive units in the league. My rotations would be as follows:
