1st comment - Hope they get the right guy and not some poor scapegoat like Richard Jewell.
Who the FBI tried to hang the Atlanta Olympic Park bombings on in 1996.
The real bomber was Eric Rudolph but Jewell spent the rest of his life trying
to clear his name and ruined reputation. Dying at the early age of 44 in 2007.
Don't be so quick to judgement.

Then someone mentioned Joe Paterno and media judgements... and the wrath of God was sent upon that person... How dare you compare an innocent man to Joe Paterno who condoned pedophilia...

Ummm what?

A logical fallacy is a flaw in reasoning. Logical fallacies are like tricks or illusions of thought, and they're often very sneakily used by politicians and the media to fool people. Don't be fooled! This website has been designed to help you identify and call out dodgy logic wherever it may raise its ugly, incoherent head.

I think this may explain some of the differences between how people see the world.

We see in essence what we are looking for. Those that see Joe as honorable and forthright are going to see the actions that portray him this way... Those that see him as a fraud will only see the actions that frame him this way.

I think the differences we see in how people argue about it says a lot about a belief that people may be noble, may be good. If you think everyone is fake and horrible, then you will see them that way. If you see people as basically genuine, then you will see them as genuine.

It then becomes no secret why Penn Staters generally become apologists... we tend to believe in noble goals.. ideas to shoot for... things to strive for.

and it also explains most of ESPN as well... I'll let you fill in the blanks there.

The NCAA, in levying strict sanctions over the Sandusky scandal, slammed Penn State for a "football-first culture" that was caused by a failure of institutional integrity. Those statements continue to draw the ire of some alumni and fans who were irritated that university leadership didn't challenge the assertions.

"That's what a lot of people, myself included, and certainly the faculty senate and many members of the Penn State community, have reacted to, is the painting of Penn State with a very, very broad brush in a sense that there's one culture here that dominates everything," Erickson said.

Neither the marquee football program nor any other aspect of Penn State life dominates overall university culture, Erickson said.

He cited recent NCAA data showing high graduation rates for football players and other Penn State teams. The rates, Erickson said, are an example of Penn State's dedication to academic and athletic success, and "evidence of a culture of athletics that is one that we can and should take great pride in, and we will continue to believe in that principle -- that academics and athletics can work together in a very, very positive way."

Its an ESPN article - and I wont send people there for page hits... think Erickson is actually saying the right thing?

''Well, obviously I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Not just because it's a 19-year-old college kid,'' O'Brien said about the criticism of Ficken. ''At the end of the day, you know, these guys are really playing hard, giving great effort for us. To go on whatever, 'space book' or 'tweeter' or whatever is put ... on there is just absolutely ridiculous to me and very cowardly, to be honest with you. But that's just my opinion.''"

When his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky is revealed to be a pedophile whom a graduate assistant witnessed raping a boy in the locker room showers and it comes out that Paterno was told and helped hide the scandal and never called the police, Paterno was summarily fired. He died shortly after — many feel of a broken heart — and the school had little choice but to raze a fabled statue of the head coach, just as the NCAA dropped the hammer with sanctions against the school that included removal of Paterno’s wins going back to the cover-up.
