This past weekend, Husky Ariana Kukors broke the world record in the women's 200 individual medley at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, with a time of 2:06.15. While Ariana chose not to swim for the University of Washington, she grew up in Auburn [Washington] and attends the UW while training at the King County Aquatics Center.

Great Job Ariana!!!

Blazer's Edge Blazers: Please Draft Jon Brockman

In looking at the latest mock draft (which will probably change again in another hour) it looks like DeMarre Carrol is coming to the Blazers and Jon Brockman is going to the L*kers. Jon Brockman is a fantastic player with tons of heart, grit, do anything, and dive for balls mentality. He also is a product of the pacific Northwest and was a great freshman compliment to B-Roy's senior season at Washington.

Jon Brockman... think of Joel Przybilla being six inches shorter and you have Jon Brockman. He's a leader, a banger, great character, soft spoken but well spoken. He's even from a tiny northern town; Snohomish, Washington, and chose the local school meanwhile being recruited by national powers. The guy is a rebounding machine, stayed all four years, was team captain since his sophomore year, and even if I were a Coug, I'd say you'd be hard pressed not to draft Brockman if you got the chance.

Other benefits of drafting him include that a number of people on your roster already know the guy; Brandon was his teammate at Washington, Martell played AAU Hoops with him, and Jamelle McMillan (son of Nate) was on that AAU team as well. Even without all of that you couldn't ask for a better teammate. Brock and his teammates became so close that even though the two guys he lived with weren't getting playing time, they stuck it out because the had such a great friend in Jon Brockman.

Brock's spent quality time banging it out against a lot of fantastic players from around the basketball hotspot of Seattle including but not limited to: [his best friend] Spencer Hawes, Bobby Jones Jr., Will Conroy [D-League Hero], Nate Robinson, and Marvin Williams.

Here is a highlight video for Brockman's candidacy for All America Honors:

Jon's Highlight Video

What the video fails to mention is that he lead the Huskies back to the promise land of the NCAA tournament, playing injured for most of the season, where they nearly escaped the second round, losing only 76-74 to a talented Boilermaker team.

Rebounding machine... character... drive... ambition... sounds like a match made in basketball heaven.

BROCKMAN TO THE BLAZERS!
