Matt Barkley Bandwagon

Whoever started or is on the Matt Barkley bandwagon I am joining up. With his performances the past few weeks I think he is playing his way on to the Miami Dolphins

Tim Tebow

Can we trade for Tim Tebow now? Dude is legendary and would solve the QB problem here in Miami. I just dont think the QBs behind Luck in this draft are better than Tebow and The Colts are gonna win the Suck for Luck sweepstakes. Tebow is not wanted with the Elway/Fox regime, Id take him how about YOU?

I'm both a Dolphins fan along with being a Panthers fan, so i thought you guys would like to read a great article on the labor dispute by a great writer.
Enjoy!

PS: Drafting a QB #1 overall is the smartest thing the franchise can do, I know because even though Jake Long is a perennial Pro Bowler the dolphins still are not elite and wont be until we get a QB. ( I want Cam Newton because of his upside and he flat out wins games)

The Phinsider Bruce Carter anyone?

His name is Bruce Carter, maybe you have heard of him. The guy is a linebacker out of UNC and i personally think he is a beast. UNC's defense throughout the season was great and Bruce Carter was a big contributor.

Here are his stats, to be honest i dont know what kinda stats make a good OLB, but he did play under Butch Davis who trains his defenses very well. He only had one sack this past year but he is a great tackler. Bruce Carter is still a junior so he might not make the jump to the NFL but if he does i think he deserves a look. (Plus secretly i like pushing for UNC guys to get drafted by the Phins)

The Phinsider Possible First Rounder

i am always trying to think of some players we will need in this upcoming draft. So me being both a UNC fan and a miami dolphins fan (i know weird combination) i was thinking of maybe going marvin austin in the first round. If we keep winning then our approximate draft position would be perfect to grab a guy like austin. Marvin could be that fix at DT and he is fast. I dont know how much you guys have seen of him but this guy is great. he is first round talent but it depends if he comes out this year. I think he will because there would be too much money to turn down for this guy. Want to know what you guys thought about Marvin Austin being a dolphin's first rounder next season.

The Phinsider There is no controversy anymore

Chad Henne HAS TO PLAY. White does not have the skill set to succeed here in  the NFL. I am very confused here at Phinsider because there are some knuckle heads out there who want Pat White to start. Why do people hate Chad Henne? I can see why someone would not have a particular feeling torwards him but there is actually hate out there. Henne has NEVER started a NFL game, he has NEVER practiced with the 1st team offense. How can anyone make an opinion on this guy. Preseason does not count, if it did then i think the dolphins would be worried about Henne but they are not.

Some people here are just plain insane for hating a guy who has never gotten the chance to actually prove his worth. If you want to look at last week's performance you can pretty much blame his poor performance on the play calling. Our coordinator is afraid that if we get down by even a single point he will just abandon the run and just call passing plays. Thats pretty much what happened sunday, which did not give this young QB a chance to succeed.

Can we wait to criticize this guy after he gets a few starts under his belt?

Also, i am going to throw this in here, can we hold off on Ginn being a bust until the end of the season? He really does not deserve all this harsh treatment you guys throw at him. He is in his third year, really his second b/c his first was probably not much of a developmental year b/c our coaching staff was horrible.

The Phinsider We need to go after a number one reciever right?

According to this the chiefs are willing to give up bowe. To me bowe is a great compliment to ted ginn jr. and we would have that true number 1 we have desired for seasons now. I love bowe's size and hands. If the chiefs dont want him why are we not stepping up and trading a few players plus a draft pick for this guy? I day get rid of Gibril Wilson he is not the same guy when we signed him to this big contract. we have good guys behind him who deserve a chance to play. Maybe send one of the wide recievers we have. bess, cammario, and hartline all have similar attributes so package one of them plus wilson and a 4th for bowe and a 3rd.What do you guys think? the only thing i see wrong with bowe is condition in the offseason but that could be because he doesnt like playing for the chiefs. I dont think he has any off the field issues and could be a great trade for us when we desperately need that big target to go along with the speedy ginn.

The Phinsider After last night, I question who the leader is on defense

play

Look Peyton Manning called audible after audible and i really did not see our defense make many adjustments. I think this can be the main reason why our defense flatout did not succeed last night.  When you watch a guy like Pierce on the giants, he is the TRUE leader of that defense. If the QB makes an adjustment he is also. He comands his troops just as well as manning but on the defensive side of the ball. When i review the game in my head i just did not see any changes once peyton called an audible. Now this could be because we were not prepared for all of the audible he has constructed or we really don't have a truly vocal guy calling the shots. I think collectively JT and JP are both great leaders off the field but on the field they are more concerned with getting to the QB which they should be. Pierce is a middle LB allowing him to go everywhere, why do we not have that ray lewis or pierce type of guy? We should but i didnt not really see it in the game. If i was the vocal leader on defense i would be moving guys around after peyton calls an audible even if its just to make it look like your doing something. I think when a offense reacts to our formation we should then counter that audible with one of our own and thats why i think our defense is not complete.

Take this play for example

To me i see manning call an audible to counter our blitz, our defense mutters somethings but we dont change our play. Our defense should have know mannning called a counter to our blitz and audibled into more of a zone coverage. Thats just me. I want to see some yelling going on, formations being adjusted to counteract an audible from a QB. I brought this up b/c nearly everytime Manning called an audible we were not there to stop his new play. This is what makes manning so great and it also makes good defense look foolish and awful.

The Phinsider What a great game!

First, lets all agree that this overall was a fantastic football game. Also lets give a big hand to Peyton Manning the reigning MVP. Manning picked us apart with the very little time he had on the field. The guy is truly legendary and a sure fire hall of famer.

I know we lost, but we lost (again) to most likely a(nother) playoff team. The colts offense was fantastic, and there defense came up big with that last stand.

Reasons why this game was good for us:

1) Our offensive line had a HUGE bounce back game after last week's horrific effort in Atlanta. Jake Long played well but not amazing. He still seemed slightly sluggish on a few occasions and if i remember correctly i saw him on the grown a few times. The rest of the line looked great Pennington had time to throw and we ran the heck out of the ball.

2) Ricky and Ronnie in the wildcat looked amazing. Those two have perfected the formation to a degree and what really gets me fired up is that the running portion of the wildcat is working so well with the safety coming up into the box. Can you imagine if ronnie could throw the ball?

3) As a whole the offense just flat-out dominated the game. We ruled time of possession and if we were playing anyone but manning and the colts we would have won.

4) ANYONE who dogs Ted Ginn deserves to be banned, he dropped a couple of TD passes, SO WHAT. Ted Ginn was THE MAN when we needed to pick up a long Third down. his route running looked sharp, and there very few flaws in his game. Now on the two TD passes, the first was a little long especially by the standards in which we hold pennington. Ginn beat the coverage and we are used to pennington fit the ball right in the hands of the reciever. instead the ball was long and ginn had to really extend for the pass. (a similar play to fasano where pennington was a little off target and a bit high on the throw) On the other TD pass, the one at the end of regulation, the ball took a little while to get there but also the CB was all over him. When the replay was on i swear i could see one of the Cb's hand grabbing the jersey, the other on Ted's forearm. Now i know it would have been a "weak" pass interference but the guy was all over him and slightly pushing on Ted's back.

Reasons why we lost:

1) the very first play of the game, our defense can't let that happen. That was a disgrace.

2) the defense as a whole was not all bad. We did have some pressure on the QB including a sack or two. but given the amount of time manning had on offense there is no way they should have one the game. For the second week in a row our middle linebackers and safeties could not stop the TE. Next week we play the chargers with antonio gates he is just as good as clark and gonzo.

3) The arm of Pennington. This is going to come up a lot and it should. The arm of Penne is accurate YES, strong NO. On that dropped TD pass by ginn, the announcers called it a "hail mary pass." Now when hail mary comes to mind im thinking like a 65-75 yard pass with little to no time on the clock. If memory sereves me correct were we not on like the 35-40 yard line? making that pass only like 50 yards at the most? (i think we were even closer) Pennington took a hop and a skip just to throw that far.The reason i also bring up the strength of our QB's arm is because in the last 3 mins we need to go over 80 yards and with the horrible clock effiencey we really only had 2 mins. Pennington just can't get us that far with only 1 Timeout. Also if i remember correctly, i remember seeing quite a few plays where Pennington chose to dump off to a short yardage throw when a long yardage one was beginning to open up. This game he had the time to throw more down field and we just did not do that (more like cant).

Well i could go rambling on, but i must study for a Psychology 101 test. if i deserve a rec please rec'me up. If there are any disagreements let me know. and im sure matty will be touching on alot of what i just said.

The Phinsider Will we even see the WildPat?

I think has been brought up several times but i want to revisit the topic as we enter the beginning of the season. Correct me if im wrong but not all of the 53 roster spots are active on game day, only like 40 something can be active. We all believe that TS will not keep all 3 QBs active b/c we need more guys active on special teams. To my knowledge Pat White and Chad Henne have not been doing any special team work, correct? So this brings me back to my first question, will we even see the WildPat?

I personally believe we will not, even though i think the guy could be very dangerous. My belief is that we are going to "red-shirt" Pat White and his Wildcat package and hold off on it till next season. Chad Henne is too valuable to not be active. If Pennington were to go down with an injury Henne HAS TO COME IN. Henne is a much more developed QB than Pat White. I love both Henne and Pat White, but both can not be active. Therefore  we will probably not see any Pat White during the regular season, unless of course Pennington is out for a good chunk of time and Pat White essentially becomes the back up to Henne for a game. Baring a major injury to Pennington i think there will be no Pat White.

The Phinsider We need a returner????

Maybe im wrong but dont we have an excellent returner already on the roster?

I believe his name is Ted Ginn Jr. Now i know many here and even the coaches think that placing Ginn back on return situation is a bad idea since he is our #1 reciever (it puts him at risk for injury). But as i watch the Chicago vs Denver game this sunday night, i witnessed the best return man to play the game take a punt all the way down to the 3 yard line.  Now last year this returner was relatively transparent in the return game, why? Well because this football player had to convert to wide reciever to better the team's WR corp(and they also limited him so he would not get hurt).

Of course pretty much all of you know whom im talking about, the man's name is Devin Hester.  Look the guy struggles at the wide reciever position just like our main man Ginn Jr. But chicago looks to have let this return beast show his stuff on only punt returns. Its really nice to see a guy succeed at something he is so good at when he had recently struggled at the more important position. I think Ginn needs to be "unleashed," his biggest strength is in the return game and our return game is horrible right now. This guy i think needs a little motivational boost in his abilities and what could be better than letting him return some punts/kickoffs in the 4th preseason game. Hopefully he has some huge returns (preferably to the house) which could lead to a boost in his ego and a great WR game.

And hey who knows, if Ginn has a great return game maybe TS lets him be our main return man as well as the number one WR. I believe the guy can succeed at both  and i hope this season he has a monster year.

Ted Ginn Punt Return

Ted Ginn Kickoff Return

Thanks for reading and GO DOLPHINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. i am officially joining the Brian Hartline Club because of how well he looked in what was pretty much a horrific preseason game. Can't wait to see both former Buckeyes on both sides of the field on offense this season.

The Phinsider kick returner

i was wondering who our full time kick returner will be, i want to know because if bess will be the guy he could possibly be a great pickup in my fantasy football league. he could get me points by how many kick return yards he gains. Just wanted to know, and i am sorry i have not been around in a long time. Just tell me who you think will be our majority kickoff return man, that would be great.

Rufus on Fire What is the lineup you want to see next season?

Well if we dont sign back Felton, May and all our other restricted free agents then that leaves money for some good bench contirbutors. To me we are weak at PF, SG and PG(if we dont sign felton). Well there are some great guys at PF that we could use our MLE on. Two that come to mind right away are Sheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess, both would be great leaders and are very familiar with coach Brown. At SG i think we need to get this from the draft. Now if that means Henderson at 12 or some guy in the second round if feel that SG will be found in the draft. At PG there is not much there but i would just like to get a solid veteran or a gread D League PG that defends very well.

So for me I am hoping this is what we enter the year with

PG Augustin   Bench: (some veteran or young defense minded player)

SG Bell            Bench: Henderson (maybe Ellington or another good SG in the 2nd)

SF Wallace     Bench: Radmanovic/ (Clark if we go with him over Henderson)

PF Diaw          Bench: McDyess/Sheed/Ajinca

C Okafor          Bench: Diop/Ajinca/Nazr

I want to know what you guys think of our lineup. To me that lineup above could certainly get to the playoffs next season. Our Team will be great defensively and with a full training camp together the offense will be more productive.

Rufus on Fire We're asking the wrong questions

The ONLY Question we should be discussing on this board as of this moment is who we are going with at PG?

Look we have two very capable PGs now on our roster. But both have major flawls. We all know/love Raymond Felton but to be honest his jumpshot is very suspect. He runs the team "decently" i will not say he runs it amazingly because too many times the ball gets stuck in his hands with very few seconds on the shot clock. When that happens he often puts up a bad shot a possesion is wasted. Now what Raymond does have going for him is great defense and good court vision. Also the guy is THE leader on the team and it will be hard to let him go.

On to DJ Augustin, the kid has a killer shot, great at getting to the basket off the dribble, just overall great offensively. The one thing killing this kid's chances at being our PG of the future is the fact he can not move his feet on defense. With all that speed he has on the offensive end it just does not translate defensively. He is slow and continually gets beat one on one. Augustin also has a lot of trouble defending pick n roll situations.

Well both have there flawls but who can/will fix them and become our unquestioned PG of the future? I feel this question HAS TOO BE ANSWERED NOW because our lineup is obviously a playoff team now going into next season.

I personally think it is a better option of keeping the guy who can score(Augustin) because we were dead last in scoring last year. Augustin will get better defensively he just needs to work on it ( i mean for godsakes he was only a rookie last season)

Felton will just be too much money (if we resign him)and he still has not gotten better in the shooting department(after 4 years). Now i know many think he shouldnt have to shoot the ball, he should just be a pass first PG. Well until this offense runs more smoothly the ball will still end up in the PG's hands at the end of shot clocks and we will need someone to get a good possesion out of it.

I want to hear peoples thoughts on this matter before we even think about what we should do in the draft. (thanks for the writer of this blog and the 4-5 people who post comments)

The Phinsider Get Excited

ABOUT PAT WHITE.

I still am kind of torn btwn Henne and White but i am slowly starting to lean towards White. Now there is no controversy yet but i have a feeling we will be arguing about these two for a long time. All i know is Pat White is fast, he can run, he passes with amazing accuracy, and is a game changer. Who is the only NCAA QB to win 4 bowl games? Pat White. I know you guys are going to be amazed at this play.

The Phinsider Quarterback Questions

I am kinda confused here, i mean now we have (in my eyes) two guys now that could be great starters. I love Henne and White. They bring different things to the table as far as offense goes but i am wondering is if maybe we dont keep both these guys long term. What about Pennington now? Now there is some better depth behind Henne. Does Henne start now?? Can Pennington still be traded? If no one trades for Beck do we just drop him?

Side note: what if maybe we still go after Braylon Edwards? I think because mangini does not really like his QB situation with Anderson and Quinn he might look to trade one of them, if he does this maybe he will take back Pennington and grab his QB next year. I think a Pennington (whose contract expires in a year) for a edwards trade could be looked into (Browns just draft 2 2nd round WRs). We would probably add some guys to make this trade happen but would anybody be objected to this? We have Henne and White now. We are still rebuilding right? I like the idea of starting Henne, having a guy like edwards while turner develops. Edwards would be gone the same time Pennington would have(his contract is up at the end of the season). Just thoughts, tear me apart down below.

The Phinsider Do we take the best player available at 25?

There have been thoughts given out that the big tuna and the rest of the FO will just use their big board. This is probably what the team will do regardless of need. Saying that there are guys named Knowshon Moreno and Brandon Pettigrew that will probably be there at 25. If either one is there and everyone else on the trifecta's big board is gone do we take a talent like Moreno or do we go with a need like Nicks or Butler who are not ranked as high as Moreno.

At 25 i would like us to take any of these guys

Nicks, Rey, Matthews, Cushing, Moreno, V. Davis, Pettigrew, James Laurinaitis, Percy Harvin.  All of these have the talent level to be a #25 pick anyone else deserves to be in the 2nd round. I would put Butler in there but he has so much growing to do strength wise i just dont think he is worth the 25th maybe 33-44.

If NONE of these guys are there i think we trade down to the early 2nd and pick guys like S. Smith, Britt, Brace, etc.

The Phinsider A Linebacker is what we want. I BELIEVE NOW

I just believe that this is what the FO will do, with good CBs and WRs available in the second and third rounds I just think our trifecta wants a USC linebacker.  Now i think the FO will do something very unexpected this draft, If they want Rey Maualuga they will pull this trade up senario.  New Orleans might be shopping their 14th overall pick BECAUSE they do not have a second or a third. We have two second rounders and our 25th pick. If you use this Draft Value Chart  It works out perfectly if we trade the 25th and 56th for their 14th. We get a LB who will step right in and make this defense even more dominating. then we target a WR like harvin/britt/nicks at 44 and a guy like macho harris in the third round. I like it how about you?

Poll
Will the trifecta move up and grab that top notch LB they want?
Yes, the FO will move up and grab the 14th and take the best LB.

The Phinsider Hakeem Nicks a pick we cant miss

Now many people here know that i have been seriously pushing for Hakeem Nicks in this draft (i mean i attend UNC for god sake). Now i dont know how much of an impression the guy made on our trifecta a couple of weeks ago but i assume it was good. There was a report that Nicks caught everything thrown at him and that does not surprise me. The guy wears like XXXL or XXXXL gloves, and with those huge hands he doesnt drop very many catches. When i watch the guy he seems to have an amazing ability to get open, which just shows how good his routerunning ablility is. If one were to watch tape, Nicks does a fantastic job finding the endzone and he seems to just want that TD so much by the way  he works after the catch.  The run after the catch ability is there and at times he can put the defender on his back for another 5-10 yards. He is tough and has a great personality. Nicks feeds off the crowd and seems to heat up once the crowd gets him going. He would be a great pick for us i just dont know how/where we can get him.

Our pick at 25 would be fine only IF the trifecta sees Crabtree, Maclin, Harvin, and Bey get taken. I think if these 4 are taken then the organization might realize that Nicks wont drop to the second w/teams like indy and giants behind us.

IF only Crabtree and Maclin are drafted, it could give off the signal that WRs are droping therefore there is a chance he could drop and i think we go with Matthews, Smith, Butler or Davis at 25 and then i would hope we could somehow find a way to move up in the second to draft Nicks.

What im hoping is that WRs drop(even though i dont think it will happen) like Nicky keeps predicting. Nicks in the second round for us would be amazing.
