Week 17 Draft Scenarios?
Hello All. As this last regular season game approaches, I am guessing that the bills draft spot is going to be highly variable on the outcome of the bills game along with a few other key games of 6-9 and 5-10 teams. I do not know for sure so I am hoping that some of you may be able to provide some scenarios describing what our lowest/highest possible positions may be. I know the tiebreaker in the draft is the team with the lowest opponent wins picks before the team with the higher amount of opponent wins but I was not able to find a website that provided info on that. If I were to guess, I would say we mainly want (in terms of draft position not pride):
The Bills to lose to the Pats and become 6-10
The dolphins (5-10) to beat the jets and become 6-10
The panthers to the saints and become 7-9
The redskins to beat the eagles and become 6-10
The chiefs to beat the broncos and become 7-9
That should put us in the 7th spot at the best case scenario and 11th in the worst case, i think. If anyone has knowledge that contradicts or supports that then let me know.
Drayton Florence situation
So far this year, drayton florence has accumulated the 3rd highest amount of Pass Interference penalties in the league with 4. He also is the 4th most penalized defensive back overall.
I would personally rather have leodis or corner in the game and have some combination of those 2 and aaron williams/justin rogers. He's only made a few truly meaningful plays this year with one huge 1 accounting for most of his glory, being the pick six on brady. He's made way more stupid mistakes in my opinion. Just really defensive hope gashing plays like pushing players out of balance near your own 20 when their already out, or getting a blatant PI call at or around the end zone. Sure aaron williams got the PI call this week but it was really only because he was too close to him rather than getting beat and having to compensate. Same with the close one with Rodgers. I just think that the good outweighs the bad with florence and that if we can save ourselves a good portion of his contract we should release him, give the rooks some more PT and camp reps, and draft/sign a mildly reliable to decent one. Anyone agree or have any targets we could talk about?

Supplemental Draft among other things
Hello fellow rumblers,
This post is more about myself acquiring information then it is about sharing my knowledge. My first question to anyone that may know is this: 1.) Has anyone seen any kind of a list of players that have declared for the supplemental draft this wednesday? I am always daydreaming about ways the bills can add good players, and besides this Michael Mcadoo guy, I haven't heard of any other names in this supplemental draft. I also thought it was very curious that the Bills chose to release Maybin now rather then when final roster cuts were made, and maybe it's the optimistic side of me that believes that the FO may try and make a move in the next few days? Cough cough supplemental draft.
2.) I saw a couple of pictures of Dave Wannstetd on the sideline of Saturday's game with a mic on his head looking an awful lot like he was making the play calls. Does anybody know if the defensive play calling duties were handed from George to Dave or have any kind of insight on that front? The reason I ask is because I attend the University of Pittsburgh and I have always been a big fan of the defenses we have fielded (although our offenses left me underwhelmed). Just 2 seasons ago we led the nation in sacks and I would love to see Dave take the reigns of the play calling.
Well guys, jump in...
Does Troup read Buffalorumblings?
I noticed on the Bills website today that Chris Brown had a small blog post quoting some of Troup's twitter messages: http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2011/05/25/troup-grinding-on-his-own/ . Take it or leave it as it may initially sound dumb but I can't help but wonder if Troup and even other buffalo bills players check out our website often. He said on one of his twitter messages "so many negative things being said lately" and for some reason I thought that maybe he read Brian's article about his performance in the Jags game and got discouraged haha? The only reason this thought has any kind of merit within my brain is that a few months ago I recall Donte Whitner tweeting about a Buffalorumblings articles involving Roscoe Parrish.
Are there Bills Players hiding and posting under deceivingly common usernames as we speak? Have they even infiltrated the editorial staff!?!??!?!?!? No probably not but it is still kind of funny to think that Donte Whitner or Chris Kelsay reads some of our bashings and curses under their breath.
A Realistic Tight End solution (cough* not shawn nelson)
Hey fellow rumblers. I was just looking around profootballfocus.com at some of their free agent position articles (they have a write up for each position) and I happened upon the tight end installment. Their top 4 includes Zach Miller (Oakland), Owen Daniels (Houston), Kevin Boss (NY), and our old favorite whipping boy Robert Royal. They included robert royal because he was apparently great in run support last year. Anyways, I was wondering how realistic you guys think it would be if we could sign a guy like Kevin Boss. I know Buffalo is never the top choice for the Tier 1 free agents but Kevin Boss is a proven pass catcher and he also is a big body which we need for run blocking. We could probably sign the guy for a less than ludicrous contract and he would instantly knock off a need for this years upcoming draft. Tell me what you guys think.
Also, on another note. Jared Gaither from baltimore is set to become a free agent. After how heavily we pursued him over the summer, I can't help but wonder if Buddy backed off because he liked what he saw in Bell and knew Gaither was a free agent to be next season. Grab Gaither, put bell at RT and solve O-Line problems? Of course I don't know I'm not a talent evaluator or any kind of reliable source but I would like to know what you guys think about the chances and how effective such a pick up would be. Go bills. Draft Marcell Dareus. Goodbye
My wideout plan
after seeing our 3 undrafted wide recievers step up and make plays last week in our win against miami and throughout the year I have a plan to maximize our talent while still getting some extra players out of it. If you count the four WRs that played Sunday (Steve, namaan, david, and donald) we will be entering the off season with 7 wide outs with talent and some kind of experience (Evans, Parrish, and don't forget Marcus Easely).
With that being said I do like all of these guys and all of them bring something to the table (Easely hasn't played an actual game but he turned in bomb after bomb in training camp and was looking like he even had a shot at the 2nd WR role if you guys remember right.) Roscoe Parrish was on pace for a monster 800 yards and 4 TDs after the first half of the season (thats with playing 2 games with Edwards also so that even handicapped his stats). David nelson looks like hes gonna finish the year between 400-500 yards and around 4 Tds and has really come on. Even Donald Jones has shown he can be very effective at using his strong frame (led all WR's in benching at the combine) to make tough catches and he also has breakout speed.
Why am i giving you guys a summary of what our young wide outs have done this season? Because I think now is the time to trade Lee Evans ladies and gentleman. I love the guy and I love that fact that he has always wanted 2 stay in Buffalo despite losing but I think this is the year to stockpile draft picks. We have seattle's 4th rounder, if we trade Lee I think we can get a late second or early 3rd at the worst. I also want the Bills to trade down to around pick 8 or 9 and draft Robert Quinn and pick up a few more picks.
Go easy on me, I have only spent like 3 days with Buddy as his assistant GM
A look at Antonio Coleman
Althought many people would look at our undrafted free agent signing of antonio coleman as just another special teams pick up I think this guy could be a serious contributor in the pass rushing aspect of our defense. He led the SEC in sacks and was rated pretty close behind OLB pass rushing prospects like Eric Norwood and Everson Griffin.
After watching some videos of him I can see that this kid brings a mean agressive demeanor to the field and I like it. Not to mention the kid's real quick around the corner if you watch some of the clips in the video linked under. He's big (260) but he plays fast on the line of scrimmage and makes a lot of plays in the back field as well as racking up 10 sacks in his latest season. You can't say he hasn't played against good competition either because he plays against pretty top notch competition coming from Auburn and Playing in the SEC.
Pass Rushing Prospects
We all have our opinions about what to take with our first round pick this upcoming spring. I personally am in heavy favor of a pass rusher. I remember how we talked about how terrible our pass rush was in 07 (26 sacks) and our numbers actually went down this season fellas (24). Thats horrific. Teams are doubling our sack total. For all of those that want some pass rushing entertainment, here is 2 defensive ends that I am very interested in. I hope the bills take either one with their first pick.
Evans third riches WR?!? Believe it
Good article about how important Evans is to the Bills. Very positive about the money he is getting payed.
Fantasy Question:
Hey guys its my first year being in a fantasy football league and I'm not sure which quarterback I want to play this week. The funny thing is my two quarterbacks are Matt Hassleback and Trent Edwards. Purely thinking about point potential I would go with Matt Hassleback but the thing is his two best recievers are injured, his tight end is nothing special and I just don't know who hes going to throw it too. I mean the guy is a pro bowler but the bills secondary should be pretty good this year and I cant see Nate Burleson carrying the team in catches and yards. I like Trent Edwards in this game too though because he has a full stock of wide recievers, Josh reed has been playing well as of late, in the Indianapolis game Evans was getting separation like it was routine, and the bills running game should take some of the pressure off Edwards which I cant say the same for Hassleback. Im still leaning towards hassleback though and the main reason is because of a man who happened to go to the local public school not 5 minutes from my home and happened to have his number retired and his name is Patrick Kerney. I would love some input from some knowegeable fantasy players. Thanks
