Police are Investigating Domestic Abuse Complaint at Willis' Home
Just a complaint and investigation, but this did occur on December 22. Not necessarily related to yesterday's announcement.
"FOX 34 News has learned that a domestic dispute is reported to have taken place at a Wolfforth home, that according to several sources, is the residence of former Texas Tech football defensive coordinator James Willis.
Wolfforth Police Chief Rick Scott confirms that police were called to a home at 305 North 10th in Wolfforth at 3:15, the morning of December 22."
James Willis Leaves Texas Tech
Not coaching the bowl game. Not announced where he is going, although Florida is a possible landing spot.
All Big-12 Team and Awards Announced
Not much love for Texas Tech this year.
Brandon Carter Signed to Tampa Bay Bucs' 53-Man Roster
After a bunch of injuries hit the Bucs this past week, Brandon Carter was promoted to the 53-man active roster. He will be a backup guard and center for a team in the playoff hunt.
James Willis Named Rivals Coordinator of the Week
Congratulations to Coach Willis and the Tech defense for this recognition.
UPDATED: OSU Game Not Televised?
UPDATED at 8 pm on 10/6: TexasTech.com schedule - Changed to 2:30 pm start time - Fox Sports Plus (whatever that is)
SECOND UPDATE: As of 9 pm on 10/6, whoever is running texastech.com changed the game back to a 6 pm start time with no TV coverage. Perhaps whomever was editing was premature in their announcement?
Self explanatory.
RaiderWalk at New Mexico Game
There will be a Raider Walk on Saturday in New Mexico for the game against the Lobos. Look for the Raider Walk sign on SW corner of stadium. It will start at 3:45 p.m. (Mountain Time).
Raider Power '10 (fka The Ride)
Watched the first 30-minute episode of the new Tech show "Raider Power '10" on Fox Sports Southwest last night. It is now available online.
Graham Harrell Signed to Packers' Practice Squad
Packers like him and it's a good place for him to develop further this year.
Jamar Wall is Now a Houston Texan
The Texans claimed him off waivers from the Cowboys - so he is part of their 53-man roster. Congratus to Jamar.
Boys of Fall
ESPN has a 1-hour show on right now entitled "Boys of Fall," written and produced by Kenny Chesney. It is really good - I'm sure it will be on a number of additional times. It is a show about why football is such a special thing in American culture. Lots of interview clips with coaches and former players at all levels.
Taylor Potts Named Starting QB
http://www.texastech.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/082210aab.html
"We have a very talented group of quarterbacks and are excited about every one of them," said Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville. "The competition during camp between Taylor (Potts) and Steven (Sheffield) has been outstanding but at the end of the day we can only have one starter. Taylor has done a tremendous job and we feel like he has gotten better each and every day. There is no doubt that Steven has also improved during camp and will still be fighting to take over that starting job every day at practice. That kind of competition will only make us stronger as the season goes along."
Let's all get behind the team and support them 100 percent!
AP Preseason Poll Released
No Texas Tech love at this point. Got some votes but 37th overall.
Tailgating for SMU Game
I know we have almsot 3 weeks before the SMU game itself, but I am trying to plan Labor Day Weekend in Lubbock. While I am going there both to see my son (5th year student assistant coach for the defense) and the game itself on Sunday, since he is busy much of the time that weekend with prep for both SMU and UNM I have lots of free time.
Are there any plans for a DTN tailgate on Sunday or Saturday (or both)? If not, I suggest for those of us that will be there for the weekend we make plans to tailgate on Sunday and at least meet up somewhere on Saturday for food and drinks.
Thoughts?

New Offense, New Opportunity For QB Harrell
Nice article on the Packers' website about Graham and his journey to the NFL.
Graham Harrell Signed by Packers
Green Bay - The Packers signed former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell after he worked out for the team today.
The Packers don't have to release any players because they have three open roster spots since restricted free agents Tramon Williams, Johnny Jolly and Atari Bigby have not signed.
The Packers now have five quarterbacks on the roster: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn, Chris Pizzotti and Noah Shepard. The Packers could release one to stay at 77 signed players. Undrafted free agent Noah Shepard hasn't been sharp in practice.
Will Ferrell Pitches for AAA Round Rock Express
Pretty funny.
Decent Article About Lincoln Riley at ECU
Leach protégé Riley now the mastermind
I am still not a fan of bleacherreport, but it does give a forum to those who want to write/blog. Since ECU isn't part of SBN yet, this guy seems to be trying to be the blogging voice of ECU. Seems fairly balanced.
Baron Batch and LaRon Moore have Surgeries
Both expected to be fine by August practices.
Leach to Consult with Oklahoma State
Too funny.
"Former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach is scheduled to arrive in Stillwater on Tuesday and stay several days to observe the installation of the Oklahoma State offense and give some thoughts and ideas, almost in the role of a consultant."
Potts Will Have Surgery on Injured Hand
Since he was already out for remainder of spring not sure it is a big deal. Hope he heals fully and is ready for practice to begin in August.
UT Spring Football Game is On
The Univ of Texas spring football game is currently on Fox Sports Southwest. Cannot really believe they scheduled it for the afternoon of Easter Sunday.
Early on, the offense seems to be running the ball much more than we have seen in the recent past. Not sure if that is a reflection of a move to a more balanced offensive attack for 2010 as opposed to what we've come to expect with Colt McCoy at the helm, but it is interesting nonetheless.
Tech Likely to Open vs Alabama in 2012
As reported by the LAJ:
Texas Tech appears likely to play Alabama in the Red Raiders’ 2012 football season opener, Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said Monday.
Myers said ESPN/ABC official Dave Brown "brought us together on this.’’
"We’ve agreed to do it,’’ Myers said. "I think Alabama’s agreed to do it. But we haven’t gotten down to signing a contract or anything like that.’’
The deal would be for one game at a neutral site — in this case, Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Myers said.
"Coach (Tommy) Tuberville is aware of the game and is in support of playing it,’’ Myers said. "I understand (Crimson Tide coach Nick) Saban is also on board for it. We’re in the talking stages, but we haven’t gotten down to talking contract with it yet.’’
The game would be the first weekend of September 2012, Myers said, and would not require Tech to move a game to accommodate a deal with Alabama.
SMU v Tech Football Opener Moved to Sunday, Sept. 5
A nationally televised game on ESPN on the Sunday afternoon of Labor Day weekend. Sweet!
