Somebody Write Something
I love this blog.
I don't post often, but I read everything published on this site and usually sift through the comments. I live and die with all of you, even though I'm not in the game threads. Most of the things I say during a game can't be said out loud, let alone written in front of many other people.
This post was originally supposed to be a complaint about how there have been few of the trademark LGT posts I've become accustomed to in past seasons. No early-weekend six packs; no articles on fan confidence. (We probably all know where that is after four recent excruciating losses.) After all, we have some of the best writers and most intelligent fans as editors on this site -- give us something to sink our teeth into during this time when we're all driving ourselves crazy scoreboard watching and pleading for outs by the relievers.
But that's not what this post is going to be. Treat this as a game thread without the game. What goes through your mind when you're watching these games? What do you say? Who do you let sit near you? How do those people react? If they're not Indians fans or sports fans, do they get it? Do you even try to explain it to them? Have you banned anyone from communication during a game because you feel that person is bad luck? I must say, my girlfriend is at least on probation. Every time she comes around, momentum shifts away from the Tribe.
I said I live and die with you, and the walk-off (and bottom of the eighth inning) losses have us all dying a little bit. Let's live. This is a freaking pennant race! No matter how it turns out, we'll look back on the 2011 season and remember it being quite a lot of fun. Let's have fun now. I'm as on-edge as anyone about the upcoming series, but I'm also stoked beyond belief over the possibilities it holds.
I'll start -- I'm a wreck during games. My "thing" is that I hate watching the other team hit. Can't handle it. This might make me uneducated on our pitchers, but I supposed I'll take that over the momentary break from immense suffering. During Saturday's win over Texas, I watched the whole Rangers rally, and then we came back to win. I told myself that watching the other team hit must not be so bad, so I prepared myself to do so for nine innings Sunday.
But then I couldn't make it through the bottom of the eighth.
So many other things from me, but tell me yours! Just write anything about this season and how you have reacted.
So we need a utility infielder
I'm 99% a reader of this site, 1% poster, and I've never written a diary. I'm not even sure if this is worthy of one, so bare with me.
Apparently one of our needs, as it seems to be every year, is finding a utility infielder. I don't know any teams that shuffles through backup infielders as routinely as we do. Maybe it happens more than I think.
Anyway, my choice would be Martin Prado, now with the Braves. He's 24 and seems to project as a utility player. Even though he finished second in the International League in batting last season (behind Ben Francisco), he doesn't have any power and doesn't draw a lot of walks. I'm really selling you on this guy, aren't I?
But he does play good defense (at three positions), has decent speed and will be cheap for the next 5-6 years. So we won't need to be looking for a new utility infielder at the middle and end of every season anymore. We'd have to trade for him, but he wouldn't cost much I don't think. Atlanta just got Omar Infante, too, so Prado is expendable.
