The CalZone
Does it exist??
Before Monday's game I had read the reports about Calipari planning on using a new "funky" zone. There were several articles out there talking about it. Those stories had the players unable to describe it.
Now, I love the word "CalZone". Sounds like a promotion for Pizza Hut. But, does this thing really exist? I only got to watch the first half of Monday's game (and not very attentively, at that), but I didn't see anything that looked like a zone defense (except a few trapping full-court pressure zones).
Maybe I missed it. What I did see was a lot of confusion on defense and a lack of focus. I did notice that there seemed to be an effort to collapse on the ball when it went inside, which matched up with some of what Coach Cal has said about having to try to do such things to make up for the lack of size inside.
But, where was this fabled zone?
Did I just not notice it?
Curious minds want to know!
We Are Lebron
If you haven't seen this, it's worth a look. An excellent parody of "We are the World", except this time it's Cleveland celebrities making a video.
Cal jumps ship then de-commits
The following just appeared on the wire for Future Press International.
[Editor's note: I just had to move this to the front page. Who knows, maybe A Sea of Blue will become known as The Onion of the Big Blue Blogosphere. :-) ]

The Cameron Crazies score!
While they aren't are favorites, I have to admire the Duke students for inviting a special guest to the UNC game.
And I thought the sign digging at Roy was hilarious: "Text 90999 to the UNC disaster relief fund."
For Tru --- Schadenfraude!
Enjoy! I can't see this word without thinking of Tru :)
Offering scholarship to 13-year old ...
is smart.
At least according to Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated.
Perhaps Billy G. should have been a football coach instead :P
I don't know how all of this will play out (and in fact, it isn't clear to me that Kiffin actually did offer a scholarship), but it is fascinating, isn't it, to see how different the perspective can be.
There is some derision of this action on-line, but I'm pretty sure there won't be the outpouring of piousness that was prompted by Gillespie's recruitment of younger players. Gee whiz, at 13 what does any child know of the world? I would say that it is ridiculous for a barely-teenager to be making any kind of commitment. Having adults out recruiting pre-pubescents strikes me as totally outlandish.
Then again, maybe he isn't 13. Maybe he really is 16. And maybe he's a Chinese female gymnast. :P
