The "FAILSTACHE" and other hairy tragedies of the 2010 Playoffs
The playoff beard is a tradition started in the 1980's by the NY Islanders (for the full history see here). The tradition has more recently become a charity event with the playoff teams competing to see who can raise the most money for their favorite organization. Today we take a look at not the most awesome of playoff beards, but the worst of the worst in the NHL.
Meet our "Player of the week" Vinny Lecavalier
Quick hits..
The 6'4" 223lb center will turn the BIG 30 on April 21st.
Vinny was drafted in 1998 by TBL
He was the first TBL player to put up a 50 goal season
Signed an 11 year contract extension with TBL in July 2008 reportedly worth $85 Million
Was named team Captain September 2008
His favorite TV show is 24
Favorite bands are U2 & Metallica
Favorite NHL player is Stevie Y
He played Montreal Canadiens center Jean Beliveau in the movie The Rocket: The Maurice Richards Story. (Beliveau was his grandfathers idol and the reason he wears the #4)
In 2007 he pledged $3 Million for the construction of the Vinny Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorder Center at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Stats for this season: 78GP, 23G, 44A. He currently stands at 67 points which is how he ended the season last year.
Almost forgot!! Ladies he IS single!! Enjoy!! :)
More pics to follow!!
ATTENTION LADIES OF CANES COUNTRY
Caniacgirl and I have been working hard all season to bring you the hottest "Player's of the Week" we could find. As this season winds down we thought we would let you vote for your favorites. This is our "TOP 10", if we have left someone out that you would like for us to showcase, feel free to leave a comment! The player with the most votes will be featured next week. I have also included some pics to refresh your memory!! :)
Player of the week part deux....
This Saturday Canes will be hosting the Phoenix Coyotes and left wing Taylor Pyatt.
The 28 year old was signed as a free agent to a one year deal with the Coyotes in September of this year. To date he has 9G & 8A, he scored his 100th career goal 3/10/10.
He hails from none other than Thunder Bay Ont. (anyone surprised?) His dad was drafted by the Red Wings in 1973 and also played for the Capitals and Colorado Rockies (haven't heard that in a while), his brother Tom (who's eyes are equally as pretty) currently plays for the Montreal Canadiens.
His favorite player is Mark Messier, fav band is Cold Play. He has a dog named Ranger (awww).
enjoy!
Our player of the week comes from The Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins (WOW, that really hurt to type). 26 yr old Max Talbot was an 8th round draft pick by the Pens during the 2002 entry draft. When he's not filming commercials, he actually plays center for the team and scored the GWG for his team to win the Stanley Cup last year. Although his stats are less than stellar this season(32 GP, 1G, 4A), photo ops ARE!! Some fun Facts about max, he likes to vacay in the Dominican Republic, Cold Play is one of his favorite bands and he is a big fan of football and UFC. OK ladies, enjoy Max!! (and just so you know he's got to be hot in order for me to lift my NO PENS CLAUSE, just this once ;)
This week we will have a special issue of "Player of the week" starting with the Oilers. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to post these pics done so well by ESPN Magazine for their annual "The Body Issue"
Andrew Cogliano (that one's for you CG), Sheldon Souray and Ethan Moreau, hope you ladies enjoy!!! (makes me feel a little better about the loss last night) :)
On Saturday the Canes will have the pleasure of hosting the Chicago Blackhawks and our player of the week, Patrick Sharp.
The Thunder Bay, Ontario native started his pro career playing for Philly and was traded to the Blackhawks in December of 2005.
In his 52 games played this year has 16 goals and 24 assists and will surely outdo his 44 points from last season. (From the sounds of it, maybe even as I type this)
In December 2009 he was nominated for Victoria's Secret "Sexiest Chicago Athlete" Seems there was some controversy about who actually "won" the competition.
The 28 year old is listed as "single" and shares his home with his basset hound "Dudley"
Well ladies, enjoy him while you can as this will be our one and only meeting this season!
Player of the week
Ryan Malone
Hockey stuff
4th round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1999. Went on to play for St. Cloud University for 4 yrs, and then for the Pens until he was signed by Tampa Bay in 2008 to a 7 year 31.5 million dollar contract. (He also spent some time playing in overseas during the lockout)
In his 47 games this season he has racked up 19 goals and 19 assists and is a +5 on the season so far (a +5, WOW nice to see someone with a + beside their name!!).
Family ties
Ryan's dad Greg was drafted by the Pens in 1976. They were the second father/son duo in NHL history to score a hat trick for the same team. His dad also spent some time playing for the Whalers (83-86), and is currently the "head scout" for TBL. Ryan's Uncle Jim was drafted by the Rangers but was sidelined due to a knee injury. Ryan's cousin Brad currently plays for the University of North Dakota and was a 4th round pick by the Av's.
Personal stuff
Ryan and his wife Abby have a son William Ryan who will turn 2 February 8th and are expecting their second son sometime in April.
Hope you ladies enjoy all 6'4" 220 tattooed pounds of him..I will also be adding some more pics below, there were too many good ones to pass up!
Chad LaRose Pee-Wee Card from 1996.
Not quite as cute as Timmy's, but still cute...
Part II
Our second featured player of the week is 25 yr old Ryan Kesler. The second line center and Alternate Captain was drafted by the Canucks in the first round in 2003. He has 24 points in 25 games, second best in points for his team. (note to Canes D, keep him AWAY from our net, k, thanks) I will also included some alternate pics so that you may enjoy all 6'2" and 202 lbs. of him as much as I have!
Player of the week part one...
there were 2 players I had in mind for this week and couldn't decide, so I didn't! Introducing player #1, Brooks Laich (how cool is that name?), the 26 year old Canadian born center was aquired by Washington from Ottowa during the 2005 entry draft. He has earned 22 points for the season in his 26 games played. And if all 6'2" and 200lbs. wasn't already hot enough according to his bio he also plays the guitar. sigh
Let me introduce our player of the week, Ryan Getzlaf. The 24 year old center and alternate captain was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2003. Last season he broke the team record for assists with 66 and led the team with a staggering 91 points. WOW (take note Timmy, we will need some of those sweet checks like the one you used on Hedman the other night). In this, his 5th NHL season, he has already gotten 3 goals and 22, yes I said 22 assists (he is a playmaker indeed) currently holds the 2nd spot in the league in assists. Let's hope that on Thanksgiving eve our boys don't eat a bunch of Tryptophan laced turkey so they can shut down all 6'4" 221lbs. of Ryan, eh?
In order to get my mind off of the dismal play of this team I love so much (Canes, I really do love you) I decided to concentrate on the "PLAYER" of the week. Saturday the Canes will be hosted by the Columbus Blue Jackets and I was so inspired by one man, sigh, Antoine Vermette. He is a 27 year old Canadian who was a 2nd round draft pick by the Ottawa Senators in 2000. Last season he was traded by the Sens at the deadline to the Blue Jackets where he now holds the position of 2nd line center. He tallied 16 goals and 25 assists good for 41 points last season and currently has a second best 12 points on the team so far this season. I hope you enjoy all 6'1" and 200 shirtless pounds of him as much as I have!! ;)
For the fans of the Fins, here is a Jarkko Ruutu Snickers commercial, I prefer Tuomo's for the cute factor, but Jarkko's is much edgier (is that even a word?), enjoy!
"Player" of the week
Since I can't even bring myself to say the name of the other team we are playing this week, you know, the one that starts with a "P" (and yes, I grudge much), I chose the player of the week from the New Jersey Devils. The 25 year old "future captain" racked up a whopping 94 points last season which lead the team and placed him #5 in the league in points, 3rd in goals. Pretty impressive stats that he will likely improve upon this season. I'm not sure what the story is behind this picture, but i'm sure there is a good one!! :)
Centers anyone???
O.K. ladies let's keep this movin along....who are your favorite D-MEN??????????? You already know mine ;)
