In honor of Kyle Kuric's letter to fans asking for toy donations to the Kosair Childrens Oncology floor, I wanted to post this picture from his freshman year. Two months after my then 5 year old son Shawn was diagnosed with Leukemia, we were invited to a private Louisville basketball scrimmage at the Yum practice facility. Kyle obviously made my son's day a bit brighter and I am happy to hear he still is reaching out to kids like my boy. My now 8 year old has one month remaining on his 3 1/2 year fight against Leukemia and is doing terrific.

Daniel Covington and other U of L football players visit Indian Summer Camp for Cancer kids in 2009. My son Shawn was there and got an autographed Danny Barlowe jersey... I didn't realize that Daniel Covington had signed my sons jersey until someone mentioned that he visited that camp and I checked it.
I didn't really feel like explaining to him why I was taking his picture, so instead I just got this look....

Before our Indiana game I got a phone call from someone in Louisville they said a young girl named Heather wanted to come to one of the games but she can't! The reason was because she had cancer. Heather is only 12 years old but she has leukemia in the blood. I was told that she had the opportunity to meet Hannah Montana but she said I really just want to meet Angel McCoughtry. I was in shock this young girl picked to meet me over Hannah Montana and I'm sure she could have easily picked someone else. It really touched my heart because when you play a sport you really don't know the impact it can have on people and the way you carry yourself. When I called her I could hear the joy in her voice but the pain as well. I said to her that as soon as I get some free time I would pay her a visit. I sent some signed shirts and gifts immediately. I know the doctors say she doesn't have long to live but I believe she does. And I'm asking all of you to pray for Heather as I will pray for her every night in my prayers. Before I got to know Heather I was very frustrated because I wasn't getting a lot of playing time. I would be the first one in the gym and the last one to leave, I would lift extra and do everything coach asked me to do but I still couldn't figure out why I wasn't playing. But after meeting Heather I realized my problems just aren't that bad and I am truly blessed! God has a plan for us all. So I have come to realize that I'm not playing basketball for my own personal statistics, but for the love of the game and who you can inspire. This one is for Heather. And any other child out there suffering. -- Angel McCoughtry

"Press Hop"... this is too good not to share.
"Press Hop" featuring A. Iverson (Steve Porter remix) featuring Mora, Green, Namath, Gundy & T O (via djsteveporter)
I saw this on the Biz EZ blog on Facebook and had to share it here, not really Cardinal related, but too good not to be shown here. I wish I could make something like this, freakin awesome job. Now if I could only get to 75 words so that this video will post on fan post... you think this will do it?
Derby All Stars just visited Shawn at the hospital. Too funny!
Well, my boy Shawn has been in Kosairs the last couple days due to his illness, he just has been tired a lot and dehydrated a bit, so they are keeping him in house for treatment for a bit. Today, Peyton Siva, Jon Hood and the rest of the Derby Festival All Stars stopped by his room while his mom and him were there.
Shawn called me afterward to brag and to ask if I was "jealous"...which I was! So here is how my wife told me it went. She said that initially the players were told they couldn't go in and visit Shawn, but once he heard that Louisville players were in the hallway, he would have none of that and insisted that my wife go out and talk the nurses into letting them come inside. Once inside, they were hit with a barrage of knock knock jokes and grilled about which school they were attending.
Any player that said Louisville got a big "GO CARDS!" from Shawn and a double thumbs up!! So much so that a couple players asked Shawn if they could change the school they had told him... lol. Then the UK recruit Jon Hood spoke up and said he was going to Kentucky... Shawn got real cross with him and gave him a double thumbs down and said "boo wildcats!" I couldn't be prouder!! lol. My wife said that Peyton Siva was eating it up and kept joking with Shawn the most. Too much, anyway, here is a picture:
