There's a lot of extenuating circumstances that I can't go in to. I can see on one side where it might not be a good idea. But there are other circumstances for him that would make it a good idea. We're really trying to work through that right now. Jay Wright, talking about the possibility of junior guard Dominic Cheek entering the NBA Draft

Sources: Cheek could leave 'Nova early

According to multiple sources, junior guard Dominic Cheek is considering entering the NBA Draft and forgoing his senior year at Villanova. The news comes on the heels of Maalik Wayns officially hiring an agent and leaving college after 3 years. I think I am more in shock of this than the Tebow trade. Cheek has absolutely zero shot to make the NBA and I can't even see him making an overseas squad. After the year he had, I don't think I would be overly disappointed if he left.

Villanova's Wright would prefer sideline to studio

"As much as I enjoyed it, I learned how much I love coaching. And they said that to me when I left. They said they thought I did a great job, but we hope we don't have to use you again [next year]. And I said, 'Well I hope I don't see you either.' " Jay Wright, discussing his role as an analyst for this year's NCAA Tournament

"One year we [Hofstra] wound up playing Belmont home and home because Belmont was really good, too. The two of us were communciating to see if we could try to help each other get games. Finally we just said, ‘Let’s play home and home.’ It’s really tough." Jay Wright, when discussing Drexel not making the NCAA Tournament and how it's tough for mid-majors to play a tough non-conference schedule

Sources: Temple in talks with Big East

After being kicked out of the Big East in 2004, it appears that Temple might be back in the conference soon as an all-sports member. The Big East only has seven football schools on the schedule this upcoming the season, so the conference is trying to get Temple in for 2012. A key roadblock in this move is that the MAC, Temple's current football conference, recently enacted a 2 year waiting period and a $2.5 million withdrawal fee.

"Honestly, I don’t know enough about the selection process for that. But for us, just to get time to practice with these guys would be a benefit. These guys like each other. They keep coming to practice. They work hard. It’s not like you have one of those teams where four or five guys are ready to graduate and just want to get it over with. They are sticking together. It’s not pretty. But if we get a chance to play, we’ll play." Villanova head coach Jay Wright discussing the possibility of his squad playing in the College Basketball Invitational, one of the three postseason tournaments in college basketball

Proud 'Nova program enduring rare slide

"I feel more for the players because being a coach you’ve been through this and you know this is part of the process to being successful. You’ve got to earn it. This group really hasn’t ... our juniors haven’t been in a leadership position to learn this yet, our young guys haven’t even been here. So we’re earning this, and you’ve got to go through these situations and you’ve got to take the heat and stay strong through it and make sure it pulls you together." -Villanova head coach Jay Wright

Villanova Blows Second Straight Double Digit Lead, Loses in OT at Buzzer

After Saturday's second half debacle at home against Notre Dame, the Villanova Wildcats provided a near mirror image tonight at the Wells Fargo Center vs. UConn. The Cats let a 19 first point half...

Wayns questionable for South Florida

Per Joe Juliano of the Philadelphia Inquirer, "Villanova guard Maalik Wayns, who suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee in a game last week against Providence, is questionable for Wednesday night’s Big East matchup at South Florida. A team spokesman said Wayns, the Cats’ top scorer with a 17.8-point average, took part on a limited basis at Monday’s practice and was expected to do the same at a workout Tuesday night in Tampa. He said the question of Wayns’ participation will be a game-time decision by coach Jay Wright."

Pitino still wants Temple in the Big East

"Me personally, it’s Temple. But, you know, I’m not the commissioner and I’m not the presidents. People say that Villanova is fighting it. I don’t understand because South Florida had to say, ‘Look, we don’t like it but we’ll take Central Florida. If that’s in the best interests of the conference, we’ll do it.’ And Villanova’s going to have to say, ‘If it’s in the best interests of the conference, we’ll do it.’ So everybody’s gotta start thinking, the only agenda is how can the Big East be strong? Now, Temple, I think, is the logical, again, it’s an inner city school, Philadelphia, great coach, great tradition. I think it’s a natural. Good football program. But I don’t know if some other people would agree with that. I’ve always said that Memphis and Temple make the most sense."

Nova Rallies Behind Pinkston's Career High 28, Beats Providence 74-72

On Tuesday night at the Pavilion in front of a paltry crowd, Villanova stormed back from a 19 point second half deficit to edge the Providence Friars 74-72. The contest was evenly matched over the...

Source: Memphis, Big East close

After recently announcing that Central Florida, Southern Miss., Houston, San Diego State, Boise State, and Navy would be joining the Big East in the next few years, the conference is supposedly close to adding Memphis into the mix as well. With Pitt, West Virginia, and Syracuse leaving the conference soon, getting Memphis to join would be a solid boost to the basketball facet.

NCAA Lacrosse Preview 2012: Five Things You Need to Know About No. 10 Villanova

Inside Lacrosse is doing a preview of the men's Division 1 lacrosse teams, as the season begins in a couple of weeks. Villanova head coach Michael Corrado knows that the Wildcats are no longer a program under the radar, especially since they are ranked #10 in the preseason rankings. "It’s definitely a different role for us, starting the season in the top 10, something that’s never been done before. In the past, I’ll admit, maybe we did have a chip on our shoulders, and that’s the way we played, wanting to get the respect of the national lacrosse community. We need to recognize that it’s nice to get the recognition, now we have to go out and prove it by continuing to work hard."

"Marquette’s a more experienced team than us, and most of the year that’s what’s killed us. We just have to keep getting better. Keep working hard, keep practicing, keep watching film. It’s frustrating, but as long as we know we’re getting better and the coaches know we’re getting better, that’s all that counts." Dominic Cheek, after the loss to Marquette

"I knew we could struggle. I didn't think we'd start 1-5. I thought maybe, 2-4, 3-3, at worst. Then I thought maybe we could click. But you know it's possible in this league. It's like the NBA, you've got to have star power. When you have those star guys, it makes it easier for all the other guys. When you don't have those star players, it's more pressure on the glue guys. They don't look as good." Villanova head coach Jay Wright

Source: Navy to join Big East in 2015
