Windy City Gridiron Funniest one yet

Well, while I admit I was at first angry with Jay during the game, I decided to hold off my judgement until I heard the final MRI results. The results settled me down and made me realize Jay prolly was hurt bad enough to require him to sit. However many of my friends and acquaintances still hold Jay solely responsible for the Bears losing that game. This was the funniest one I heard/saw yet, courtesy of my facebook

Windy City Gridiron Bears compared to other Chicago teams

I am blessed/cursed with being a Chicago fan, I've accepted this. One thing that is hard to accept for me is what seems to be an "automatic failure" mindset Bears fans seem to have, but only have for that particular team.

Windy City Gridiron Doesn't that just make the week sweet?

After what seemed like two bye weeks in a row, it seems like the Bears may know what they're doing.  As much as we (myself heavily included) have bashed this staff, they seem to have whipped the boys into shape for this game.  I was actually as happy with the game plans as I was with the execution in this game, a statement I haven't made in a long time. A few random observations after the jump. Am I allowed to use that phrase?

Windy City Gridiron The Tommie Harris Enigma

Never in my Bears-watching life, has one player's career been as confusing as Tommie Harris' has.

Windy City Gridiron Uniforms/Superstitions

I'm not a big uniform watcher, but the throwback uniforms the Bears are going to wear on Monday look pretty sweet.

Windy City Gridiron One quick random question

I've watched the NFL for a long, long time now, and one question recently popped in my brain and I really didn't have a logical explanation for myself.

Windy City Gridiron What I learned from the preseason...

Well this year, unlike several others, I actually learned something from this preseason. I finally, once and for all learned that the preseason is a giant waste of time.

Windy City Gridiron The Full Frustration

Of Saturday night's debacle wasn't the actual game itself. It was once again the stubornness of our coaching staff. This defensive scheme has been figured out, it is obvious to everyone but the Bears. The opponents use the same 4 or 5 yard out or quick slant to the middle of the field, on nearly every third down it seems.

Windy City Gridiron This has to be the year....

that people consider Lovie on the "hot seat". I'm not one to blame coaching, but there's no way any one can explain to me how its possible to be so under prepared after your bye week, and then repeat mistakes the very next week. Thats inexcusable and the bears 19-19 stailmate record since super bowl 41, is unimpressive at best. At some point (if the Bears fail to make the playoffs) the coaching staff has to be held accountable.

Windy City Gridiron greg olsen...bust watch

If you are a tight end in the NFL and can't block, you must catch every catchable pass thrown in your direction. Olsen has been very bad at making catches across the middle. Specifically if he's going to take a big hit, which leads me to believe he is a puss. Watch the dropped ball he had on Sunday night, he wasn't even looking at the ball, his eyes were on the pending hit he was going to take. You can't do that if you aren't blocking or catching 8 passes a game. He has had a few redeemer moments this year, but he is not even at 75% of what we expect out of him. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't give me the "well we don't have a number one WR help with coverage" excuse either, because our recievers have been just fine this year.

Windy City Gridiron can we stop this "then we can put hester back at kr/pr" nonsense?

Ok we all know Devin Hester is a good kick returner. Fortunately for the Bears, Johnny Knox, Daniel Manning, and Earl Bennet can all do some good at kick and punt returns, so why the outcry is so strong boggles my mind. Devin Hester is having a solid season at WR, and if he ends up with 10 td's and +800 yards recieving, that is way more valuable than taking him out and making him full time punt and kick returner. People say "yeah well a kick or punt return to the house can shift momentum" that is true, but so is picking up a key first down as a reciever. If there were no one else capable of returning then, the argument might be valid. I'd rather have an explosive guy for almost every offensive snap, rather than one play.

Windy City Gridiron my lasting image of cedric benson

Everyone is going nuts this week about, the travesty of letting Cedric Benson go (probably the same folks who were screaming for his release) when we already have a good running back, I don't get it. Anyways, my lasting image of Cedric Benson will always be, him pulling himself out of the biggest game of his life, after he fumbled. He wasn't going to succeed in Chicago, and more power to him in Cincy, but it wasn't going to work in Chicago period.

Windy City Gridiron Last Night...

was brutal. I turned in because I got excited by the notion of football, then about 2 seconds after the kickoff I realized it was still the vikes vs. pack and damn is it hard to root for ANYTHING to happen in those games. First I got annoyed at hearing about Favre and all his accomplishments, including stats and records that no one's ever heard or cared about. Second I got annoyed at hearing about the new legend Aaron Rodgers and his already HOF-worthy career.  And lastly it was ESPN's overhyped and overadvertised coverage of the game. Was it just me or were there 15 commercial breaks before the 1st quarter had ended? All in all a good game, but my god, I hate watching a game to root against both teams. Which team did you guys find yourselves pulling for? I slightly went with the Pack only because my Favre hatred was fully rejuvenated.

Windy City Gridiron Two Things I Don't Get

There is two absolutely idiotic things that fans say, that really are ignorant and really bug me.

"If he hadn't got those two (or 3 or 1) big plays he wouldn't have done anything" - which i heard numerous times about forte this week.

What's your point? The plays did happen so that pretty much ends your argument.  And the second...

"If the receiver doesn't catch it, its picked off"

This is just an ingorant quote from someone looking to fault the quarterback at all costs. Once again, the play was made, so what's your point?

Windy City Gridiron Tommie Harris - Done?

Watching the NFL Network's replay of the Bears game, I paid special attention to Tommie Harris. That is actually the coolest part of the replay, the fact that you can concentrate on specific individuals. Tommie Harris was engaged and failed to break engagment on about every down I watched. He wasn't really getting double teamed as much as the Bears want you to believe either, I could only count a few times that he was actually double teamed. Coupled with how little the guy actually practices, I don't feel optimistic that he'll ever return to even 75% of what he was. I feel bad for Tommie, cuz he had the potential to be a legendary DT.

Windy City Gridiron The Bears dictate my week

I know its probably pathetic to admit that, but during Bears season its true. If the Bears lose, I don't watch any football the rest of the day, I can't watch Sportscenter, and I generally have no motivation til about Wednesday. , When they win I go into a article-reading frenzy. This week has me pumped, just can't wait for Sunday. Anyone else's nights/days/week's change based on the Bears game?

Windy City Gridiron The Score is unbearable(except Holmes, OB and Doug)

Let me first say, I wasn't trying to make a pun, it was just the only word I could think of.  I try to tune in to 670AM the Monday after a Bears win, and these days, I just can't. They are so smug and hypocritical that it is a pain to listen to. The morning guys are alright, but I don't ever hear them, as I host my own morning radio show, out here in the sticks. I believe from about 9-6 we are all inferior, unless we happen to be behind a score microphone, in their minds. Now the dumb callers, I can understand why they get lambasted, but that station makes you feel bad for having a positive attitude about your team, and thats what I find discouraging. Laurence Holmes is very good, I'll admit that, and if he is hosting a show I generally listen, and Doug and OB have a great postgame, so I won't say the entire thing is terrible. However, I'd rather have a station I could tune into and feel happy for 15 minutes, rather than them trying to convince me how much my team sucks. Just wondering if anyone else has turned against a station I used to enjoy.
