Yes, it may be really early to be doing so but I have fiinished my pre-free agency mock draft for the Eagles. I took into considerations all of the things that I expect to occur in this upcoming free-agency period and applied them to my draft.

Round 1

1st pick- William Moore, FS/SS Missouri

2nd pick- Jason Smith, OT Baylor

Round 2

3rd pick- Evander Hood, DT Missouri

Round 3

4th pick- Alex Boone, OT Ohio State

5th pick (from some team for Lito Sheppard)- Javon Ringer, RB Michigan State

Round 4

6th pick- Otis Wiley, SS Michigan State

7th pick (from some team for Reggie Brown)- Pat White, WR West Virginia

The starting rotation seems solidified in four of the five starting spots by Hamels, Myers, Moyer, and Blanton. However that fifth spot is a little shaky to me. Who is going to start there? Is it going to be Kendrick? J.A. Happ? Park? Carassco? Truth be told, nobody really knows so why not bring in a guy to solidify that spot? Most of the free agents may be a little bit advanced in age but they can still play (just look at Mr. 80 mph fastball throwing Jaime Moyer).

Deadline Trade

Tuesday is the trade deadline which has me wondering if the Eagles are planning on making any moves. The Eagles are most likely looking for offensive improvement if anything, and there are a lot of options out there that may pan out. Kansas City is willing to trade Tony Gonzalez for the right price. Trading Roy Williams could be a necessary sacrifice that the struggling Lions need to make. Of course we also have Ocho Cinco who may now be acquirable, as long as Marvin Lewis has realized that a change may be necessary in order for the Bengals to go anywhere this year.

MOCK DRAFT

The Eagles main areas of concern in my opinion go:

Wide Reciever (a big guy who will be able to score in the endzone; this will help meet McNabb's, Westbrooks, and Runyan's plea for more weapons)

Offensive Tackle (someone who will suceed either Runyan or Thomas)

Free Safety (hopeful successor of Brian Dawkins; Mikell will be moved to starting Strong Safety)

Defensive End (a role player in passing situations and who will bring Cole off of special teams)

Tight End (L.J. will be gone after this year and there is still alot of questions with Celek [will he develop into a better blocker?])

Cornerback (more depth is needed especially if Lito is traded)

Linebacker (more depth would be nice, and some competition will push these young developing backers to their limit)

Runningback (someone who could be mentored under West for a while until Brian's age begins to catch up with him)

EAGLE'S PREDICTED PICKS

1 (#19)- James Hardy, Wide Reciever: Indiana
2 (#49)- Chris Johnson, Running Back: East Carolina
3 (#80)- Barry Richardson, Offensive Tackle: Clemson
4 (#115)- Craig Steltz, Safety: LSU
4 (#131)- Chris Harrington, Defensive End: Texas A&M
5 (#152)- Jeremy Leman, Inside Linebacker: Illinois
6 (#184)- Joey Haynos, Tight End: Maryland
6 (#191)- Zack Bowman, Cornerback: Nebraska
6 (#200)- Shawn Murphy, Offensive Guard: Utah St.
6 (#203)- Davone Boss, Wide Reciever: Hawaii
7 (#230)- Doug Legursky, Center: Marshall

The Eagles option with the number 19th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft is a difficult spot to be in. The possibilities are endless as to what they could do with this pick, especially since they have needs at both sides of the ball. The main areas of concern are at Offensive Tackle, Wide Reciever, Defensive Tackle, Free Safety, return specialist, and possibly Inside Linebacker.
Explanations:
OT- I never want to see what I saw in week 4 of last season ever again when Winston Justice allowed 6 sacks on Donovan McNabb via Osi Umenyiora.
Wide Reciever- Donovan wants more weapons, then give him more weapons. Curtis would make a killer slot reciever(Wes Welker like), Reggie Brown would be the 3rd option with great route running skills, while the new reciever would be that deep threat.
Defensive Tackle- Pressure up the middle is something that the Eagles lacked last season.
Free Safety- Brian Dawkins is most likely calling it a career after this year, but who better to mentor a young agressive free safety right out of college then Dawk.
Kick/Punt returner- I don't think that I remember one return last year that made it past 30 yards besides Brian Westbrook's at Seattle that went for about 60.
ILB- By brining in another linebacker you give more depth to the linebaking core.
