Auburn Coach Rejects Nawrocki's Claims

Blaine Gabbert: A 2011 Draft Bust

This is a well written article that pretty much sums up how I feel about BG. I too just don't get the fascination with him, and how he has risen up to being the top QB in the draft, given that I don't fall for combine studs with great measurables or 5 star HS players that never really amount to anything. Anyway, because there has been a lot of pro-BG propaganda on this site, I thought I'd even out the conversation with some very reasonable anti-BG talk. Enjoy!

Almost Official Now. DeAngello is Not Receiving the Franchise Tag.

It has been rumored that RB DeAngello Williams won't receive the franchise tag, however Adam Schefter now reports that a source tells him that the Panthers have indeed not decided to use the tag on Williams. It is now between C Ryan Kalil and DE Charles Johnson.

Like Mayock, Warren Sapp prefers Dareus over Fairley

According to ProFootballTalk, retired DT Warren Sapp prefers Marcel Dareus over Nick Fairley as the top DT prospect. Like Mayock, he doesn't believe that Fairley is the better prospect, citing his work ethic and technique.

Congratulations Charlotte! You have just been awarded thousands of crazy liberals!

A source close to the Democratic Party indicates that the city will be the host for the Democratic National Convention in 2012. Economically, it is a big win for the city. It also boosts the city's profile, and opens the door for other large scale events to come to the Queen City, possibly even the Superbowl.

Charger QB Volek could be the veteran the Panthers are looking for

So, it seems that backup QB Billy Volek could be headed to Carolina to join familiar faces in Rivera and Chudzinski. Volek, who'll be a free agent this year, is purported to have a chance to be the veteran QB the Panthers are looking for to push to start or mentor Clausen. A quick glance at NFL.com reveals that Volek has performed aptly in Rivers' absence. He has an career QB rating of 84.9, TD-INT ratio of 27-15, and 60.1 completion percentage. What do ya'll think Panther nation, is this the veteran QB that they Panthers are looking for?

Singletary now not considering Panthers, about to join Vikings this week

So it seems that Mike Singletary won't be joining the Carolina Panthers this season as an LB coach. Instead, he will be joinging the Vikings because the staff "looks good" a la Jason LaCanfora. This is just my opinion, but I am shocked that he would choose the Vikings over the Panthers. The idea that the Vikings staff looks better than the Panthers is a joke!

Singletary Considering Coaching Job with Panthers and Vikings

According to Jason LaCanfora of NFL.com, former 49ers coach Mike Singletary is considering joining the Panthers or Vikings in some form of LB Coach. If it were me, the choice would be simple: Work with a budding star in Jon Beason, and a great supporting cast a la James Anderson, Thomas Davis, Jordan Senn, and Dan Connor OR work with a mediocre group of EJ Henderson, Chad Greenway, and Ben Leber, it would be an easy choice to join the Panthers. Seems like with our great LB core, it could be a great way to get his career back on track...

So, anyone want Gruden for OC, QB coach, or Offensive Assistant? He may be headed to Carolina

Yes, it may be a possibility. The one small detail that I left out was that it is JAY Gruden, not his brother Jon. Anywho, it turns out that there is a possibility that Jay has been speaking with Rivera about joining the Panthers. While Jay isn't the better known of the two, he has a football coaching background, and like his brother is offensive minded. He already had a stint as Offensive Assistant to his brother while at Tampa, but now is HC of the Virginia Destroyers, of the United Football League and has more than 13 years of coaching experience. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Jay Gruden is Orlando's best-kept secret. In this article, a href="http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2010-08-28/sports/os-bianchi-tbd-0829-20100828_1_florida-tuskers-jay-gruden-love-coaching" the author states that Jay "has everything you're looking for in a coach: Offensive imagination, innovation, charisma, even that magical last name." Furthermore, one of his QBs that he has coached thinks that Jay is "one of the best offensive coaches I've ever been around." So, this could be exciting Panther fans, Gruden may be the guy to help turn around our offense.

Looks like another name is in the mix for OC

In addition to Rob Chudzinski, it looks like Mike Kelly will also be in the mix for OC. Don't know much about him, but from his wikipedia page, it says that he has the fourth best winning percentage of all time amongst college coaches with at least 25 years experience.

Thought this was interesting. Love Matt Carroll's quote-> "I just couldn't find anybody."

Nnamdi Asomugha Anyone?

So, unfortunately for the Raiders, clause's in Nnamdi Asomugha's contract release him from the Raiders, allowing him to become a free agent. Just as Peppers was the top free agent target last year, Asomugha will probably acquire the same position this offseason. For a team releasing it's starting CB Richard Marshall and benching their other top corner, the Panthers should definitely make a run at him. It'd probably take a pretty penny to get Asomugha here, however the Panthers should have enough money to pony up to acquire him if they covet him.
