I presume we fall at the top end of the Best of the Rest Category. Can't imagine that we don't have a top 10 rated farm system.

Interesting article from MLB.com on the economics of baseball. Don't believe any of it is shocking.

Any idea how many FA, if any, we will need at ColSprs to fill in the gaps?

2010 - Rule 5 Question

Do we know who is going to be subject to the Rule 5 draft other than those that are on the 40-man now? And if so who would most likely be placed on the 40-man? - jl

Purps Discussion

I was looking through the Rocks minor league stats and came up with a rough list of prospects to consider for the next revision of the Top 30 Purps.  For discussion sake, I was wondering if I was missing anyone that is a definite must have on the list.  Or is there someone on the list who's beyond being a prospect or has a glaring hole that I'm not aware of?

Nice collection of talent we have assembled over the last few years.  I'm totally stoked over who we have in the pipeline to continue building upon.

Alphabetically

  1. Alberto Alburquerque
  2. Nolan Arenado
  3. Chris Balcom-Miller
  4. Charlie Blackmon
  5. Rex Brothers
  6. Jhoulys Chacin
  7. Jared Clark
  8. Sam Deduno
  9. Brandon Durden
  10. Christian Friedrich
  11. Hector Gomez
  12. Darin Holcomb
  13. Ethan Hollingsworth
  14. Brandon Hynick
  15. Kent Matthes
  16. Tyler Matzek *
  17. Mike McKenry

According to this SI article - Heyman suggests DOD and Colletti will be coveted FA.

Not sure how to feel about this.

Question of Age

Curious to know what the normal progression of age through the minors should be for a player. May be another way to put it is - When is a player too old to be considered a prospect at a particular level?

For instance, Chris Nelson who is 23 and is in his 6th season after being drafted out of HS - has never made it above AA, mostly due to injury. I presume that he will be back in AA after he heals from his latest injury, so at the age of 24 next year how many more year's does he have to be prospect material?

What is Morales worth??

Been sitting here watching the end of the CWS and reading MLBTradeRumors.com and a couple of articles have mentioned that the Rocks are starting to look for starting pitching in preparation for us being in the race closer to the deadline.

As it currently stands, not many pitchers are on the blocks due to many would be sellers still feeling like they are in it, so the asking price is pretty high.  Exp - Indians are looking for Clay Buchholz type talent for Cliff Lee.

So I started to look through our roster to see what we might have as possible trading chips and Morales appears to be an interesting possibility.

I see a couple of scenarios playing out

Scenario 1 - Has Morales finally putting it all together down in the Springs and being that "additional" starter that we are looking for down the stretch.

Scenario 2 - Has him just not fulfilling his potential and causing the Rocks roster issues next year as he will be out of options.

So my question to you - If we were to dangle Frankie as trade bait between now and the deadline, what do you think he would fetch?

Poll
What will come of Frankie Morales?
He will finally put it together and become a middle of the rotation arm for the Rocks.

He'll continue to struggle and cause a roster issue for the Rocks in 2010.
