Bloody Elbow Forrest Griffin - Complaints Are the New Compliments

Forrestgriffinel_medium

via www.blogcdn.com

Having watched Forrest Griffin since his early days on season 1 of Ultimate Fighter, Forrest has come off as a bit of a clown but a pretty nice and likeable guy,  However, he apparently caused quite a stink with his recent tweet where he decried "Rape is the new missionary"

In light of the criticism, Forrest has manned up and made a donation to the Las Vegas Rape Crisis Center.

My question is:who is in the wrong? Forrest, who was simply commenting on the many high-profile rape cases that have been on the news recently, or those who were offended by his social commentary?

Sure, Forrest may have posted his tweet without any earlier related commentary, but considering the randomness of social media such as Twitter, was it necessary to explain himself before posting his tweet?

Forrest is simply the victim of being heard by a small group of overly-sensitive people. For these people, freedom of speech is only okay as long as it follows their small set of rules for decency.

God Bless America.

I had the opportunity to meet and speak briefly with David Loiseau this past weekend during the UFC Fan Expo in Toronto. When asked about his next fight, David mentioned that he would be fighting in Leemore, California in August.

So, it appears as if David (barring any injury or a last-minute return to the UFC) will be return to fight under the Tachi Palace Fights banner and defending his title against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.

Bloody Elbow Is Amir Sadollah a future UFC Champion?

20100112095235_img_5853_medium

After a hard fought win this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 24, the "Ultimate Fighter" season-seven winner is now sitting on a 5-2 record. What is more impressive is that all of his fights have been inside the confines of the Octagon. Are there advantages to have only fought on the biggest stage in the world?  I would hazard to guess yes.  Without having to travel the independent circuit and fight lesser quality opponents along the way, Amir is learning to adapt to the limelight much quicker, and hone his skills against higher-quality opponents.  Who knows, maybe someday Amir could become a UFC champion.  Now, before you mock me for suggesting this, take a closer look at a few other current UFC fighters who had limited fight experience outside of the Octagon, and have now seen the fruits of their success

Bloody Elbow Would Olympic Boxing Style Judging Work in MMA?

One of the biggest issues fans (as well as some of MMA's biggest advocates) have about the sport, is in its judging and its use of 10-point must system.   While the system was brought in due to its use in boxing circles, it has not been without its controversies in both sports.  Amateur boxing at the highest levels (in particular the Olympics) was concerned that such a method of judging was causing corrupt judges to score a bout a certain way.  The system introduced in 1992 not only solved some of that problem, but would help pick out the troublemakers and more fairly score the fight.  This is something we should consider when looking at making changes to the Unified Rules.

Bloody Elbow Amputee Makes MMA Debut

Kyle

via www.mmafighting.com

Kyle Maynard, born with his arms at his elbows and his legs at his knees, is now less than a week from his mixed martial arts debut set for Saturday at "Auburn Fight Night" at the Auburn Covered Arena in Alabama.

The event is being promoted around his long-awaited debut and will be streamed online for $14.95 at www.kylemaynardfight.com.

His opponent for the amateur bout will be announced at the weigh-ins on Friday.

Maynard had been previously denied a license by the Georgia Athletic & Entertainment Commission two years ago, and is only now able to fight since Alabama does not have an athletic commission.

I'm all for equal rights, but this cries of bad taste and seems inhumane.  While Maynard may have faired well in either high school or collegiate wrestling, MMA is a different beast entirely, and he will face a more severe disadvantage.

Bloody Elbow Lashley vs. Sapp

According to MMA Junkie:

Former World Wrestling Entertainment star and up-and-coming mixed-martial-arts heavyweight fighter Bobby Lashley (2-0) will fight former NFL lineman and kickboxer Bob Sapp (10-3-1) on June 27.

Lashley, an American Top Team fighter, announced the super-heavyweight fight with a Monday Twitter posting.

After an appearance on TNA's Lockdown PPV from this past weekend, it seemed as if Lashley's dream of making it to a bigger show (Strikeforce/UFC) was dead. However this news as well as the rumors that he did not sign a deal with the pro wrestling group, keeps Lashey's aspirations alive for a little longer.
