Camden Chat mlb.com Fantasy League

Hey all - there hasn't been much activity lately with the original fantasy league we set up at mlb.com.  I would like to continue with this league...is everyone else still in?  I know there's the shiny new one over at yahoo.com, but I would rather stick with the original if everyone is still down.

And if so, somebody take Ken Griffey, Jr, off of my hands!

CC Fantasy League

Did anyone else know that our fantasy league had its draft the other day?  I thought I had been keeping up on it, but I didn't receive any notification of when our draft was going to be, and next thing I know I have Scott Podsednik on my team.

Ah well, I had set my prerankings, so it wasn't a total bust...did this happen to anyone else?

Ahh, 2005...

There's a really funny ESPN.com Page 2 article about the pros and cons for every team in signing Barry Bonds.  And of course, the quip for the Orioles is:

Pro: Bonds would be a sure bet to be team's sole All-Star Game representative.
Con: He would remind fans of the 2005 media guide cover.

Buh-dum-ching

But the best part is the accompanying scan of the 2005 media guide:

I mean, hindsight is 20/20 and all, but look at that assemblage of meatheads!  No wonder even the batboy was huffing steroids in the O's locker room in 2005.

/turns on selective memory

I did really enjoy that season, though...especially early on, when B-Rob was cranking all those dingers, and we were in first place at the All-Star break.

Damn, We're Cheap

Has anyone else noticed that the promotional orange "O" car magnets that were given out at the beginning of the season have already started to fade?  I know mine is, and I've seen some really bad examples today driving around downtown.

I think it was a really great promotion and I see them everywhere, but geez, come on guys...at least get a magnet manufacturer who's colors don't begin to fade in less than a month.  What did they think, that we would keep them in our fridge, or perhaps stored away in acid-free archival boxes?

So cheap.

Baltimore Back on Road Unis????

/crosses fingers

"Confirmed" that Baltimore will be on the uniforms next year?

/realizes that it doesn't take much to keep me happy

I think Baltimore pride is a beautiful thing, and plus, it will make all of us rush out and buy the new jersey.  I'm down like Charlie Brown.

On a completely unrelated note, did anyone else who was watching the Nationals feed yesterday notice how the one announcer (not Sutton) kept saying how much we like to "throw money around in the free-agent pool"?  I say lay off!  If we want to spend millions of dollars on Sammy Sosa, we can do it, dammit!  At least our team realizes that Tony Batista is done.....

MLB Power Rankings

Maybe its just late and I'm drunk, but goddamn if we're not ranked in the middle of the pack...!

Possibly the most surprising and exciting scroll down a page since Brittany was seen without her panties on....

Maybe some respect for us!  Go Baltimore!

New Exhibit at Sports Legends

Hey guys - just wanted to let you all know that this Friday we'll be opening a new exhibit on former Orioles pitcher Moe Drabowski at the Sports Legends at Camden Yards Museum.  If you've never been out, get here before the crowds start up on Opening Day, and if you've been to the museum before, come see all the new cool stuff we have.

Here's some more info:

Markakis Musings

I woke up this morning with a strange thought in my head...do you think Nick Markakis realizes the unrestrained optimism and weight that we collectively put on his shoulders?  Do you think he reads the posts where we deify him into the second coming of Moses playing right field and hitting .375?

I was never a good athlete because, well, I'm not athletic, but also because I could never rise above thinking too hard about what I was doing.  I could have driven in the winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning in my Little League's tournament semi-final, but instead I thought about it too hard (and I sucked) and foul-tipped into the catcher's glove.  Strike three.  Game over.  I run home crying.

I can't help thinking that if I were in Markakis' shoes, I'd be freaking out!  Thinking about how the future of the franchise is in your hands, how the hopes and optimisms of thousands of loyal fans rest on whether or not you hit well and don't get injured.

But, I guess that's why he's Nick Markakis, professional athlete, and I'm johnnynebraska, dumb-ass blogger.

Sports Legends at Camden Yards

Hey guys - I'm new here...well, when I say new, I mean new to actually having a username, as I've been reading CC for the past year or so.  Anyhoo, I enjoy the community here and love reading about people who are so rediculously into this game, this city, and this team as I am.
