Truly a case of another man's trash

Truly a case of another man's trash

It isnt a big secret that the Blazers might like a backup 4 that doesent play like a 3rd string 2 (Sorry Channing, but at least you are a first rate dude.), but the BE is divided on which way to go, vet that we have to pay a premium on i.e. Brandon Bass or McDyess, or drafting our way to a backup 4:Hansbrough, Penedegraph, Brockman, Blair etc.

Perhaps we take KPs "another man's trash" approach and see if Sean May has anything left in the tank. He is a decent rebounder as evidenced by his career at UNC where he had a junior year TMR% of 26.5%, and was getting over a point per possession as well with a PER of 32.6 and even posted a PER of 19.2 for the cats in 07/08.

On the downside he has battled weight issues that have led to injury issues throughout his NBA career, but on the upside we could probably get him on the ridiculously cheap side of the coin and maybe on a partial guarantee.

Would anyone be offended by this move? Anyone thinks this at least borders on the "not a terrible idea" idea?

Who fits along side a combo guard? (It is about Arenas, but it may as well be about Roy.)

Some nice analysis about finding a backcourt mate to an awesome combo guard (although we are lucky that Roy has the size to be an awesome 2.) Interesting stuff, and I think it can be taken as a guide of who to put alongside Roy, or as a guide on how to get the 5th pick off of the Wiz.

Your choice, but either way it is a nice read.

(Self high five as I would like to see Delonte West as a Blazer, and this gives that idea some credence.)

Maybe a quick change up in the movies section and lets talk about movies that you are a bit embarassed that you like.

On top of my list would be Van Wilder. I know that it had a cast member from the Real World, but I enjoyed it. It is by no means a good movie, but it entertained me. I also really enjoyed Saving Silverman. The Neal Diamond cover band and Steven Zahn made it pretty funny. Zahn definitely needs more comedy roles; or roles for that matter as he seems to have disappeared.

Jump in your virtual confessional and lets hear some dirt.

Nice little article about a collegian turned euro star who might want to play in the NBA.

I like these stories as Anthony Parker really shored up my fantasy team his rookie season. I guess I should not care about this as I do not play fantasy basketball anymore.

What are the bobacts thinking by not having a summer league team? It seems like if you want young and cheap talent and have it develop then summer league is the way to go. This seems like a fairly silly cost cutting measure to me.

Could Tony/Toni/Tone Allen help the Blazers?

Could Tony/Toni/Tone Allen help the Blazers?

I was doing my usual thing of not polishing up my resume and or searching for jobs when I came across this little ditty from the posted link

"I'll be curious to see if Tony Allen sticks around or is traded (or even possibly released). His on court performance hasn't lived up to previous expectations and his off court distractions aren't helping anything."

I have to admit that I havent watched everything Tony Allen has done, but I remember him being a pretty good defender and decent spot up shooter and slasher. He might be able to help the Blazers backcourt out by guarding the best perimeter player so as to take some pressure off of Roy while being a bit more of a slashing threat than we currently have. Add the fact that he is a pretty cheap and possibly gettable player and he might be nice in the Black and Red.

The downside: character character character. He had a pretty publicized incident in Chicago where he may have been involved in a shooting incident and he was receiving death threats in this years playoffs. KP has said that me may allow a lower character guy on now that we have an established team, but TA may not have the upside or skills to make it a worthwhile risk. He also had a nasty knee injury a few years back that cost him some of his athleticism.

I would be interested in what others have to say about Allen.

PS Apparently I am in love with Ainge's 04' draft as I have been lobbying for Delonte West as well.

A jerky Blazers fan has a question

Over on Blazers edge there is a constant conversation going on about finding a backcourt partner for Brandon Roy. One of the names that sometimes gets thrown into the mix is Felton. Given that I dont follow the Bobcats all that closely I would like to hear some opinions on Felton's overall game.

First off let me say that I think Felton is the quntissential poorly utilized player. In my opinion, he has been forced into roles due to injury, coaching changes, etc that have been to his detriment. I think this is reflected in his poor shooting as at times he has been forced into being the main scorer and defensives can key in on him relatively easily.

I think some of my precieved flaws in his game would be masked in Portland as he would not be forced into that much of a scoring role, mostly hitting open outside shots, and being a threat to drive the ball to keep the d honest, moving the ball around, and making some entry passes. I think that having Roy, Aldridge, and (fingers crossed) Oden taking up a lot of the defenses attention that a guy like Felton could pick up some low hanging fruit for himself while simultaneously making the game easier for Roy, Aldridge, and (toes crossed) Oden. Does this seem reasonable or am I just way off point here?

Also, I would be interested to hear any thoughts on Felton's defense. I have heard that he is not fleet of foot, but is he at least reasonable? Does he make an effort on that end of the court?

Any feedback and info on Felton would be great.

Good luck with next season and in the upcoming draft.

A nice little preview from BDL. I have to say I am a little disappointed that the dream shake seems to have little respect for the blazers. I thought Ben's analysis was more even handed and recognized the relative strengths and weaknesses of the teams, while the dream shake seems to think this is an unloseable matchup.

I'll end with a question that this brought up for me, If the Rockets matchup so well with the Blazers due to the their great perimeter defense and the fact that Ming plays best against traditional centers, then why dont they matchup well against the Lakers? I think the answer lies in the fact that they have beaten the Blazers, but not the Lakers, and not necessarily that they do not match up well. Any thoughts on this?
