so it happened. after a good 3 or 4 year walk about in the wilderness, i'm back to loving baseball (though hating MLB more than ever).

anyhow, as a result it's going to be a long, cold 3 1/2 months.

so, i thought i'd ask: what are your favorite web sites, columnists, and books when it comes to the tribe and baseball in general?

i'm looking for hardcore statistical material, giamatti ("it breaks your heart, it was designed to break your heart") sentimentality, in depth interviews with the new groundskeeper in kinston, or anything else you've found worthwhile.

animal, vegetable, mineral. i'd love to know.

Good Karma, or a Very Special Episode of LGT

in march of this year i was at a friend's house and he was doing his online gambling thing (a ridiculous habit, if you ask me, really a silly way to go through life).

...but, having said that i noticed that the tribe was being given 16-1 odds for winning the al pennant.

and i did something i had never done before: i gave my buddy $40 and said put it down for the tribe...those odds are just too damn good.

i keep forgetting about this, mainly because no matter how handy the money would be, my love for the tribe is 1000 greater than my love for filthy lucre.

anyhow, i'm laying it down right here: when the tribe wins, i will win my $640 - and i'm pledging right now that $320 will go to the boys of lgt. there must be some super program thing or whiz bang gizmo out there that could make the lgt boys' lives -- and the site -- better. or maybe we can have a vote for what they'll do with it. hell, we can put it in a fund for peralta in case his left side is paralyzed once again. it really doesn't matter.

the point is this: i love the tribe. i love this site. and what better way to get some good karma than pledging half of my ill gotten gains to that which has made me so happy this season?

and there's nothing right now that makes me happier than thinking about how bummed out i'm going to be when i realize, at about 11:30 edst tomorrow night, that i just gave away $320.
