I just discovered that my local Anchorage cable company now has WGN-HD as part of my cable package.
I'll be able to start seeing the Cubbies in crystal clear high def, starting with Saturday's game vs Arizona.
I'm so happy, I could bust!

Now here's a question for you Chicago residents that are in the know:
Is it likely that the pending sale of the Cubs will have an impact of the number of Cubs games that WGN will carry in the future? It seems to me that there are far fewer Cubs games carried on WGN than they had back in the 80s when I started watching on cable.
What do you all think?

JP

I'm disappointed too. Very disappointed
But this diary is directed at the whiners that are blaming Lou P.
He is, in my opinion, the best thing to come to the Cubs in many years. He did a terrific job of taking what he was given in his first year of managing last year's Comedy Central doormat team.
It wasn't Lou who got swept, it was a bunch of mega-millionaire players who didn't perform when the rubber met the road. No surprise, really. Did you really think that Lou could take last year's doormat team and even win the division in his first year?
It's October, are you still waiting for the Easter Bunny to bring you Belgian chocolates?

Lou did a fantastic job with a team that no one would have wagered real money on winning even 3rd place in Comedy Central last June.

And don't tell me how long you've suffered as a disappointed Cubs fan. If you can tell me who was Barry Goldwater's VP candidate, then I'll listen to you. BTW, I dated his daughter Mary, who went to Newton College.

Hang in there 'till next year
Really!
JP

Please stop telling us now how everyone sucks, from the players to the managers to the announcers!

Tonight's game was absolutely wonderful!
You know, you can only watch one game at a time.
Tonight's win over the St. L. really made my day. And today is the only day I have. The only one. I may be dead (or working) during the playoffs, so I'll just enjoy the hell out of today's game.
How are you feeling?

I apologize if I've been getting too preachy lately. The fact is, I hate being on both sides of preaching. (preacher or preachee)

But I'd just like to say a few words in favor of appreciating and enjoying the game of baseball.

Since April it seems to me that there have been several BCB themes that have dominated the discourse here. They have been: the playoffs, fire Dusty, trade X and acquire Y (the fantasy discussions), the playoffs, the bullpen sucks, the playoffs, the bats suck, the playoffs, the defense sucks, and the season is over. Is that what it's all about to Cubs fans?

If you are one of those that believes that winning is the only thing, then you have my sympathy. Just as those tigers that believe that your life's worth is measured by how much money you have acquired.

I love baseball because it's a beautiful, pastoral game that mimics life. It's full of hope and disappointment, success and failure. But the greatest thing about the baseball season is that tomorrow's another day and a new game.
You have choices as a fan of baseball. One is to start the season tranfixed on whether or not your team will make it to the playoffs (4-5 months in the future). The other choice is to experience the daily joy or sadness as each game is played to its wonderful and unpredictable ending.
And if your beloved team loses, there's hope for tomorrow in a 162 game season.
It's your choice as a fan. Be miserable all summer or stay in the game.
