McCovey Chronicles Bye Tim A

I'm not upset at all that the Giants gave away one of their top pitching prospects because it requires a major league talent to get a major league talent. There was no way the Giants would be able to get a player like Sanchez for a non-premium prospect. With that said I also believe that the way Tim Alderson delivers pitches will result in him experiencing some pretty serious arm problems down the road. Tim A is pretty much all arm in his delivery and just uses his length and arm speed to deliver the ball rather than using his legs more to help drive himself to the plate when delivering the ball. His mechanics are very suspect and the amount of stress he is putting on his arm as a result of these mechanics raised my eyebrows when I saw him throw in a couple games this season. Plus the Giants have a good farm system once again so we have plenty of pitching throughout the system. Besides if Alderson was such a phenom he would be in the major leagues by now.

McCovey Chronicles If Johnson Goes to the DL

is Jonathan Sanchez pretty much a lock to take his spot? Or is it time we get to see Pucetas or Sosa? Would they bring up Bowker? Frandsen? There's so many options in this hypothetical situation. I'd prefer to see Sosa bypass Triple A and get a start just to see what he has. I'm impressed with Sanchez's work in mop up duty (even if they've been in blowouts) and actually looks like he has more potential coming out of the bullpen. He could be on the Affeldt track to bullpen success. Ah, the possibilities.

McCovey Chronicles Sandoval gets the shaft.

Pablo deserves to be an all-star this year and he was not named to the team. I hope somebody gets injured so Sandoval could make it on the team. MLB really needs to stop with the fans selecting the starting line ups because I'm so sick of seeing undeserving players go to the game. I know the game is "meaningless" but it's still nice to see your own guys out there. He definitely deserves it even if he is in his first full season. He is carrying our team offensively and this is a huge disappointment for Giants fans.

McCovey Chronicles Hey Fred Lewis!

nice catch there in the bottom of the first. oh wait you didn't catch it. i'm done with you. but thanks for helping prove to everyone that nate schierholtz deserves playing time over you. you should go back to the minor leagues and learn the following.

a) learn that generally your first step should be back and towards the direction of the ball is going if the ball is in the air.

b) don't run after fly balls with your glove out. it slows you down and it makes you look like you don't know what you're doing (which you don't).

c) if you're in left field and a righty hits you the ball in the air it will hook. if a lefty hits a ball in the air it will slice. at either rate the ball will always travel back towards your right side.

d) catch the fucking ball!

that is all.

McCovey Chronicles Trading Brian Wilson.

I know the Giants have been rumored to have interest in a lot of hitters and I know Sanchez has been the main guy that the Giants have been dangling out there, but I was wondering if the Giants have put any thought into trading Brian Wilson. I know it might sound crazy to some people, but Wilson does have some value and could be a good addition to a lot of bullpens that are looking for relief help (Mets, Rays, Angels, etc.) The Giants seem to have a couple of guys that can close out games just as effectively (and nerverackingly) as Wilson so is it possible that the Giants might have some interest in letting Wilson go? I don't believe that it would be a good or bad move, I was just curious to see what people thought about moving or packaging Wilson.

McCovey Chronicles In Defense Of Sabean

As we all know at McCovey Chronicles, Brian Sabean's contract has been extended through 2010. This decision has left most Giants fans spinning in their graves, couches, barstools, or whatever the hell they're sitting on.
