Pinstripe Alley Keep in mind...

We could be seeing the end of the illustrious career of Jorge Posada. I'm not being pessimistic saying we are going to lose, but just cherish every of his last at bats. He has truly been a great Yankee and I hope this year hasn't soured anybody's opinion of him. Anyways, make a point to watch Jorge tonight. I have a feeling he might come up big.

Not to negate the positives that Let's Talk About Tex Baby stated prior to this post, but I feel we are overlooking a major positive that Adam Wainwright's injury creates.. for the Yankees atleast.

Pinstripe Alley The Payroll Solution

The spending spree that the Yankees have been on in the past years will indeed  come back to haunt if their ways continue. With the large contracts of Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixiera, CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, while also factoring in large raises for Phil Hughes and Robinson Cano and the potential for Cliff Lee, it leaves the team with a core of again players who make quite a bit of money. Those eight players will most likely make north of 150 million dollars in 2012 and beyond. What is my proposal?

Infuse the youth.

Even though he is stupid, and incredibly unlucky, I hope they offer him a deal after it is said and done. He was very valuable in 2009 and they need all the bullpen help they can get.

Lone Star Ball Congratulations of behalf of Pinstripe Alley and Yankees fans

Pinstripe Alley would like to congratulate the Rangers and their fans on a hard-fought, well deserved series win. Quite simply, they made the Yankees look old. They outplayed them in nearly every way, and deserved the series by all means. We look foward to seeing you next season as we will be hungry for a rematch. Whomever the NL champ is, this coming series has the makings of a good one.

Best Regards,

PA

Pinstripe Alley AJ prayer thread

This post is to encourage our pitcher who has struggled all year. This is a must win game, as they would be in a 3-1 hole should they lose. So pray here, discuss here, because we are pinning this series on AJ. There is no denying they need to win this game. So give AJ all of the positive reinforcement we can!

Pinstripe Alley Minor League recap interest

Some of you have an interest in doing a daily recap. I like seeing who is doing what down on the lower levels. Those of you who are interested (Edgware, Greatscott) - if we could start a rotation I think it could work out. Plus we could add to the blog while not overloading our mods.

Pinstripe Alley The Yankee Universe waits on hold, George Steinbrenner, in life threatening condition

A second terrible news story has broken to the public this week. Our Boss, has apparently suffered a major heart attack this morning. He is in life threatening condition. The Yankee Universe waits to see what emerges from the dust. Please, be okay, George. You are loved by millions and are the reason the Yankees are what they are today. I'll let the mods update this story as it unfolds.

Pinstripe Alley A sad day for Yankee fans, everywhere. Bob Sheppard has passed at 99.

Bob Sheppard, the voice from above, the voice of the New York Yankees has passed this morning at the age of 99. His career extended as far back into the 20th century as the game has ever seen. Please join me in offering condolences to his family, the players, and the fans. We will miss you Bob, you will never be forgotten. Your legacy wil be enshrined by the Yankees for generations to come.

Pinstripe Alley Nationals sign 44 year-old Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez

via http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2010/07/report_nationals_sign_orlando.html

Interesting that the Nats would sign a 44 year old pitcher to a minor league deal. He is the Half-brother to Livan Hernandez, who currently plays for the major league club. It will be interesting to see what El Duque's got left in the tank.

Pinstripe Alley The Elite Eight - The Yankees' Future (1/8)

Over the past few years, the development of young players has reclaimed an important spot in the Yankee organization. International Free-Agent signings have supplemented the organization where the annually low draft picks can not. The system is chocked full of talent at all levels due to great coaching by the Minor League Staff and the Developmental processes that all of these prospects go through. My top eight Yankee Prospects consist of some resurgent, some some with ultra-high ceilings, and all with bright futures. I will rank them in their respective categories of Offense or Pitching. Keep in mind these are my Top 8. There are other prospects who would garner an honorable mention.

Pinstripe Alley Miranda's Future

Miranda has surely shown he is not overwhelmed at the Major League level. Frankly, he has never gotten a chance to prove himself and he is doing a great job filling in. With Johnson on the shelf for awhile (who knew it?), and Miranda getting extensive playing time, does anybody think that he will stick for the rest of the year?

Pinstripe Alley Can we lay off the Javy bashing?

You guys are being way to critical of him. It's his first month with a new team in a new league. He is powered by the AL's best offense and a solid defensive core. People who are referring to the distant past like 2004 are ignorant to the fact that that was 6 years ago. He is an older, smarter pitcher who has good stuff. If I recall correctly, CC had a similar, yet not quite as bad first few starts last year. We have a better, deeper pitching staff this year even if Javy goes 11-10 with a 4.40 ERA. We Yankee fans are spoiled along the lines of quality players at every position. Not everyone is always going to be in sync and people are going to slump at times. Javy needs time to reecooperate and I will bet you he will get back on track sooner rather than later.

Pinstripe Alley Left Field Dilemma

I like Brett Gardner as much as the next guy, but I'm concerned for his success and veteran insurance. Brett is a useful player, and I want him to succeed, but what if he dosen't, or disaster strikes and he gets hurt? Surely Thames isn't an option to start. It's pretty much agreed upon unless he spontaineously combusts at the plate, he will be released eventually (I think the only reason he's on the team now is so Grandy has an old buddy). Winn is simply not a starter in the AL East. I know we are 8 games in and I sound pessimeistic, but this is hypothetical.

Pinstripe Alley Who hits second?

As we all know, Joe Girardi recently made the statement that Johnson and Curtis will hit either 2nd or 7th. Personally, I don't agree with hitting Curtis 7th, assuming NJ hits second. First off, if Posada hits 5th like we expect him to, then that will put Cano in the six-hole. If Cano and Grand Central are in the 6-7 holes, that leaves a probability of 3 of the next four batters to face a lefty late in the game (Cano - Granderson - Swisher (S) - Gardner). I am in favor of having Granderson hitting second, and Nick Johnson hitting fifth. The reasons? I see Granderson seeing PLENTY of pitches in front of Arod and Teix. Much more than he saw last year. He is surrounded by righties/ switch hitter so there will only be the occasional situational lefty. It is far more likely that he will see a lot more left-handed pitching down in the order. Some of you were saying we need a traditional, high OBP guy for the slot. This year, Johnny Damon posted a .365 OBP. In 2008, Curtis posted a .365 OBP. He won't be on-base as much as Nick, but it will still be Johnny Damonesque numbers with a few more homers and hopefully a higher average. As for Nick Johnson, he put up 62 RBIs between The Nationals and the Florida Marlins. The short porch will help his homerun total as everybody expects. I'm advocating for him to hit fifth. His on base skills will help produce more runs out of the bottom of the lineup. It will take the pressure off Posada to hit fifth, while giving him, Cano, and Swisher a chance to drive in a few more runs. It will also "sandwhich" Johnson, Cano, and Gardner between guys who hit right handed. What do you guys think?

Aside from Arod and Teixeira, who will drive in the most runs this year?

Pinstripe Alley What are your rituals?

As I was piddling my day away in class, ideas of the Yankees were swirling around my head. The thought reminded me of my game rituals that always seemed to make the Yankees win. Yes, baseball is a game of superstition and charm, and one should not come between a man and said charm. In the regular season, the occasional change of clothing, Yankee hat would occur. Some of the time it worked, some of the time it didn't. But in the postseason, it's a whole different game. I still haven't moved my 'Stars and Stripes' cap off my trophy case, it's been there since the ALCS.

Pinstripe Alley YankeesRock fantasy Yahoo league members!

Hey guys, I was wondering if we could have the draft on a weeknight before the week of March 7th. I am going to St. Petersburg, Florida with my baseball team to train and go to a few Yankee games! We have got tickets to a Phillies - Yankees matchup at Steinbrenner Field already. I'm excited, it's always fun to go to the warmth for a week. But it would be much appreciated if we could move it back to a weekday before the 7th or any day after the 13th. Thanks guys.

Pinstripe Alley Jim Edmonds?

I read a rumor that the Yankees have reported interest in the 39 year old centerfielder who did not play in 2009. Edmonds 2008 campaign was rather bleak (.235, 20 hrs, .822 ops). The guy can sure play some defense and brings world series experience and depth the the outfield. This could be the answer to a platoon situation in left. He said he would take league minimum just to prove he could play. The left handed bat would play nicely with the short porch. Jimmy could have a nice, resurgent season in Yankee Stadium. What's there to lose at league minimum (400k I believe, correct me if I'm wrong)? He also said he could play corner infield if needed. I would prefer him over a Reed Johnson, but not Johnny Damon. With 2m to spend, this is a good use of money. What do you guys think?

Pinstripe Alley OF concerns...

As brilliant as Cashman has been this offseason, I have on thing I am truely worried about. As of right now, our outfield consists og GGBG, Swish, and Granderson. So lets make a virtual scenario. Cliff Lee is on the mound, and Swisher in one of his multi-week long slumps. You have two lefties (BG, and Cgrand) with his .100's average against lefties, and Gardner being the hitter he is. (That game is inevitable by the way.)I never realized how much we need a reliable right handed bat or a Left handed batter than can decently hit LH pitching. Sorry, JHJ won't cut it. But those are three outs right there. Any thoughts?

Pinstripe Alley Counter MOVES

Damon, you better come back. You better take a deal circa 2 year 23 mil. Matsui is gone (sigh) to the (sigh) Angels. He can be DH/LF like everybodys talking about. Nobody has said much about this next one, Holliday. We need a counter-move to the Lackey/Cameron deal. Pull the trigger on Matt Holliday. The guy is a good combo of average and power. We deffinately should go after him, we need another bat. We also need one more starter, Sheets/WANG/Duscherer, although I wish we could add another RELIABLE arm. Lackey - I wish - no one agrees with me. Oh well, we could always look at trade. Not sure for who, but expect cash to make a huge counter move very soon.

It would be a Merry Christmas for Matt Holliday. Please Cash, take a look.

Pinstripe Alley Halladay, breaking news

A 3 way trade has been agreed upon. Phillies - Mariners - Jays. Cliff Lee, yes Cliff Lee goes to Mariners, Halladay goes to Phillies, and a boatload of prospects go to the Jays. I am watching Francesa, yes I am very bored, but that was just in. Atleast he did not end up in the AL East, or even the AL. So that leaves us with Sheets or Duscherer, or WANG. COME ON. Thoughts? I am glad we didn't give up Joba, Phil, or Montero.

Pinstripe Alley The Reality of the Future

Now that CF is locked up for a good while now (assumed), we need four things this offseason.

Lets start out small. I like Jerry Hairston. The guys got what you call "pep," rally starter, unsung hero, whatever you want to call it. I like him. He is an extremely reliable option off the bench as proved in the WS. He can play anywhere, and we can get him for pretty cheap. I hope the brass brings him back.

After we resign Pettite, I say we should atleast make a "Burnettesque" offer to Lackey. The guy can pitch. He's got emotion, he cares and he shows it. I really like him pitching in front of Burnett, Andy, Joba/Hughes, and behind CC. That would be a feared rotation, more feared than the Sox. If we make this move, that pretty much eliminates the Halladay move. However, anything is possible with the Yanks. I really would detest Cashman (until Halladay wins 19 games) if he included Montero in a trade for Halladay - an almost certainty since we disposed of Ajax (assumed). So if we don't go after Lackey, expect an immenient Halladay trade. A third option would be Hughes and Joba in the rotation. I would really like to give both of them a chance, but the reality of both of them being dominant is probably slim. One in the rotation and one to set-up would suffice. A fall-back option would to sign Ben Sheets. Iwould preferably have him over Harden/ Ducherscher. He would come cheap with a high-reward scenario. If he fails, replace with option number three.

"Pitching, Pitching, Pitching....then Left Field" Brian Cashman said. Well LF is deffinately in concern. I would like to take Damon back if he dosen't get too greedy. I want to stay away from another long-term, 20 million+ contract with Holliday. We are not desperate for outfielders. I want to see Johnny back in New York. I think he can work on his defense this offseason and suprise some people. If he dosen't resign, we deffinately should replace LF internally. It would be nice see Gardbrera in LF or RF (Swish can play either).

The DH for the Yankees is in question. Many of you like the "Revolving Door" option. I like bringing back Matsui. He could play 80-90 games leaving the rest to our aging left-side/ catcher. The guy can most certainly hit. He is working out at a mini-camp in the OF. He could be a spot OF starter. It would leave me teary-eyed to see him in another uniform, espicially the Angels.

Lets hope Cashman makes the right moves...

Pinstripe Alley Best Roster for 2010

I am really a huge fan of John Lackey. They guy is a tank - like CC. I think he would really benefit from pitching behind that Yankee line up. If no Lackey, and if we catch a sniff of Halladay to the Sawx, we have to make a trade - the Sawx would have the most feared rotation in baseball. I actually would take Lackey possibly over a trade for Doc. Halladay is not playoff proven. Lackey I feel would be a good fit. If we had to trade, I would much rather trade for King Felix in Seattle instead of a guy who is 32.   And for the LF situation, if we can't come to terms with Damon, there is always Nady. We forget about him because he got hurt. He has not really had a chance to play in the New House and I think He could put up Damon numbers or better, plus he is younger. Personally, I want Johnny back, but my second choice is Nady. If Nady dosen't perform, trade his ass. Sheets is either a hit or miss, you could strike gold with him. He would be a good 3/4 starter, if he stays healthy. This would be my last choice, but still an okay one. Oh yeah, bring Matsui back too - the guys a Monster aka Godzilla

Pinstripe Alley Bring Them Back - F/A

Congratulations to all of out team and the organization, this was truely a remarkable year. Now that the season is over, in a few weeks, it comes time to address the free-agent situation. Personally, I would resign Damon and Matsui. Without them, we are not here. Some people mention Jorge's declining defense and the possibility of moving him to the DH spot. He is and will be a better hitter when he is catching. His defense is not Terrible - just average. Both of these guys had very good years. I really do not want to see this championship team broken up quite yet. Sign them to 1 and 2 year deals (Matsui, Damon, respectively). If you ask me, Petitte is a no brainer to resign. You will never have a better big game pitcher. He deserves a 2 year deal, incentive based.

On another note, Marte deserves not to be dealt. He had a huge World Series and became our go-to guy.

Please comment if you have any thoughts or if I missed anything.

Great Season guys, I'm already looking foward to Spring Training

Pinstripe Alley Lets Go Bronx

On Wednesday, I want to hear you in Virginia. I was at Game one in Section 203. It was quiet as hell. This is the WORLD SERIES. I want the crowd to be into every pitch next game. I am calling every one of you all who are going out to get the crowd into it. Who else do you want on the mound other than Andy Petitte? I wish I was there, so please, make some noise New York
