I received this e-mail today:

My name is David Thiessen and I am the Vice President of Traditions for the Alumni Association Student Board (AASB). I am writing to you to ask a favor for our organization. We are hosting a spirit rally this upcoming Tuesday, October 6, at the South steps of Jesse Hall at 7:00 PM before the Tigers football game with Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are currently ranked in the Top 25 and this Thursday night game is being shown nationwide on ESPN. It is a big game for Mizzou and we want to show the team that the student body is behind them. Our goal is to have at least 2,000 people attend the rally and I was hoping that we could count on your organization to help us achieve that mark. Gary Link will be the emcee and we will have appearances by Gary Pinkel, select football players, the Golden Girls, cheerleaders and Marching Mizzou. This is an opportunity to show the football team our support and let them know how badly we want to beat those Cornhuskers. Please pass the information along to your organization and hopefully we can see you at Jesse Hall next Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Let me know if you have any questions.

Went directly to the basketball game today after coming back from Kansas City.  I couldn't help but realize that Zaire Taylor, with his trimmed gotee, looked very similar to Kanye West.

I know it's kind of a strech, but at the game I really thought they looked similar.  I thought I would post it because I am bored and also want to distract myself from studying for my test tomorrow.

 

Does anyone know how the university will distribute the tickets for the Big 12 championship?  Will the athletic department sell some of their allotment to students or will they all go to TSF donors?  I know it is probably too early to know anything, but if anyone gets information, could they please post it?  I would much rather student charge my tickets instead of getting them off ticketmaster.  Hopefully we can throw a wrench into the BCS picture and win ourselves a trip to the Fiesta Bowl.

On espn.com, Tim Griffin explores possibilites of realigning the Big 12.  I know these two possibilities would never happen, but it is really interesting to read.  I really like the idea Griffin proposes, but the Big 12 has not been an innovative conference since creating one of the first "super conferences."  The idea of eleven conference game would spike interest, create more exciting schedules for fans, and increase revenue for the conference with a better TV contract.  Griffin points out all of these and I really think the Big 12 should look into realignment to make the Big 12 a more competitive conference overall.

I just saw an advertisement on espn.com with Chase Daniel on it.  Naturally I clicked on it and it took me to the Nissan Heisman Page at espn.com.  They get one official vote since they sponsor the Heisman Trophy ceremony and they are opening their vote to the public.  I know its only one vote, but we would know we did what we could to help a Tiger win the Heisman.  Here is the link: http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/theheismanvote/index

Missouri is ranked sixth in the AP Preseason Poll.  Georgia is ranked first, followed by the Ohio State University, USC, Oklahoma, and Florida.  Complete rankings after the jump.

I saw that the game had already been picked up.  I didn't know that they picked up conference games already.  I know that ABC agrees to televise certain matchups every year like Texas-OU, Texas-Texas A&M, and Nebraska-Colorado.  I'm kind of bummed though that the game will only be on FSN, especially after last years game.  Any other thoughts on this?  Can ABC overtake the broadcast?

I found these pictures while surfing some message boards.  I thought they were pretty cool.  They are custom made covers for EA Sports NCAA Football 09, which comes out in July.  Some guy is a Photoshop pro, he makes them all.
