This time he follows the DGB recruitment....calls Mack "The Picture Guy". Is it me or does this guy wear out his welcome everywhere he goes? Every year he is with a different media outlet.

The Pac 12 is really weak this year and overall our 8-5 record doesn't feel as bad when you look at how stacked top to bottom the Big 12 was this year. If KSU can envision Longhorns on the side of Arky's helmets, we could end with a 7-1 bowl record.

Burnt Orange Nation Can we PLEASE run one of these saturday?

Harsin talks about trick plays vs ou

I have some confidence in this team vs the sooners this weekend but I would love to see HarsinWhite execute at least one of these plays at the Cotton Bowl. To me, it would be like Harsin saying to Venables, "You've had 4 years to figure out how to defend this, and I can STILL run it on you whenever I want!". My personal preference is that we see "Circus" at the RRS.

Burnt Orange Nation Kickoff time for Tech game?

Anyone have the skinny on when they announce the kickoff time(s) of the TBA games remaining on the schedule? I know this game was a primetime game when it was played in the month of September, but that was prior to realignment and subsequent schedule changes. Am I right to assume this would probably be an afternoon game due to the fact OU/A&M and LSU/Alabama would be the primetime games on November 5th? We are attending the Tech game and knowing the start time would help tremendously. Thanks and as always.....HOOK EM!

Burnt Orange Nation OU comes across pretty shady in new 30 for 30

The new 30 for 30 on Marcus Dupree is excellent. It's blatantly obvious that Oklahoma, Barry switzer or anyone close to him gave a damn about him. The guy broke bowl game records and Switzer put the loss on Dupree. Dupree admits that he received a double wide trailer from the sooners. He verbally committed to Coach Fred and Texas but unexplicably signed with ou at the 11th hour. Personally, I feel bad for these kids that get lied to and get screwed in the end. He was a freak of an athlete and Barry wanted to move him to tight end....I'm blessed to be Texas Longhorn.

Burnt Orange Nation DJ scored in the first quarter!

As i revisited the video of the National Championship, I saw something I missed live. DJ Monroe scored on the speed sweep! I know there is not a conclusive angle but it appears to me that he rolled over the defender while never making contact with the ground until he is in the endzone. At this early juncture in the game, we didn't know how incompetent the Big East crew was going to be all evening. Cody was not in the game and that's probably why we went hurry up offense and ran the QB sneak for the touchdown. Now, I'm unsure of it,  but since there were offsetting penalties, was there technically a play or was there anything the coaching staff could have done to ask for a review? I know they tell us "Every play is reviewed upstairs" but ESPN/ABC did a poor job with replays all evening. Sorry I dont have a link that doesnt include attaching the whole game. I can tell you they play is run with 10:54 on the gameclock in the first quarter.

Burnt Orange Nation Who wore the Burnt Orange after the game?

Being a Longhorn fan in the state of Texas is pretty easy to do and commonplace these days. With recent success, I see alot of Burnt Orange apparel around. I work in a hospital so mainly wear scrubs but Fridays are casual. I went casual yesterday with a UT polo shirt to represent, bylaws be damned. One thing I thought about after the loss was...I wonder who is going to wear Burnt Orange in hostile terroritory today? I live in West Texas, where the natives are acting like idiots because Leach got canned. I heard all kinds of crap about the Horns today, honestly, it slid right off. I didn't even argue with anyone. I simply went with...

I'm happy and proud that Mack Brown coaches the football team, aren't you proud of yours...ooh that's right, you dont have a coach....

"Well, it was a great game, we fought hard to the end. It stings, I'm sure it feels like that time your team was in the championship and...oh wait, nevermind"

Anybody that knows me, knows full well that rep UT. National Championship wise, I rocked the colors after the CWS and after the Gazelles epic match. I really didn't see the sea of Burnt Orange that I saw before the game and thats fine, let the fair weathered fans move on. Being a sports fan, how can you not be proud that your school competes for championships in seemingly every sport? I digress, where did yall sport the colors and a) what garbage did you hear and b) what was your response?

Burnt Orange Nation UT's Dominance of the SEC

In case you missed it, The Bleacher Report has an interesting article on Texas' record versus the SEC over the years. I doubt this has any bearing at all to the current coaching staffs and players. As a Texas fan, I love the fact the we own bragging rights with the majority of the SEC schools. My personal opinion is that Texas, unlike other Big 12 schools in recent memory, is not intimated by other programs. I take pride in our current winning culture. When we are favored to win, we do so without embarrassing our opponents. When we are the underdog... well,  it seems like we just step up our collective game and prove people wrong. As I scour the web, I have yet to see a poll that doesn't have 70% of America picking the Tide to hoist the crystal ball. The SEC hasn't seen this version of the Muschamp defense.....

I loved one of the comments posted...

"Interesting side note: Tommy Nobis and Joe Namath were both present for an event recently and Joe told Tommy that he scored in that famous goal line stand at the 1965 Orange bowl. Tommy responded, " Joe, not only did you not cross the goal line, none of your offensive linemen crossed over."

Burnt Orange Nation How does Meyer's Resignation affect Recruiting?

At first, its easy to think Meyer's departure would mean Florida commits re-opening their respective recruiting processes. Not so fast, my friends. The timing of the announcement really isn't that bad. From Dec. 21 through Jan 10, 2010, it is the "dead period" for football. This means college coaches can’t have any in-person contact with a high school athlete or his family & phone calls to recruits are heavily limited. Because Meyer resigned during the dead period, it makes it more difficult for opposing teams to poach Florida recruits -- legally. Coaches will most certainly work the system and use other means to contact recruits. Rivals and other sites (also here) have quotes from various recruits stating they are still committed to UF, while others say it's too early to tell.

As far as we are concerned, I personally think this increases our chances wuth Jordan Hicks, only because it seems that he had already told Tressel he would not be attending tOSU. I believe the instability at UF and his relationship with Coach Boom, not to mention Hick's mother's connection with Madden, will bring him to the 40 acres.

Burnt Orange Nation Ft. Worth S-T article & Recruiting Question for GoBR....

I recently read an article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about their Elite 11 recruits for 2010. Of the eleven, 6 are committed to the Longhorns. I found it interesting that a common theme with our recruits is that they are humble and appreciative to be coming to Texas. There is also more non-committal statements by Jackson Jeffcoat.  Seastrunk? I see why GoBR calls this other kid "the running back from Temple". I really doubt there is a 17 or 18 year old kid that is more full of himself than this guy.

Anyways, I was intrigued by the comparisons made by the writer of these recruits to current or former NFL players. GoBR, based on your analysis, are these comparisons comparable to what you might think of these particular recruits? Tevin Jackson reminiscent of Shawne Merriman? Really?

Also, I liked what Chris Jones had to say about his recruitment...."Only the best go to Texas".

Burnt Orange Nation What gets Horns hyped up?

Last weekend, as I watched the Horns stretch and get ready for Nebraska, several songs came over the PA. While the music did liven up the crowd, it got me to thinking about songs that did or do get me going before any physical activity. As I contemplated, the Horns gathered around in a huge circle, started getting crunk and were chanting. Does any one know what they are saying and/or rapping?  I workout 3 to 4 times a week and have to listen to music throughout. I use the music as a motivational tool and to avoid people that go to the gym to socialize. I'm interested to know what music some of the Horns listen to pregame and what gets the BON going? My personal favs to workout to are Til I Collapse by Eminem, Here I Go by Mystical and Bawitdaba by KId Rock.

Burnt Orange Nation KD aka Velvet Hoop

KD, AI, Rashod Lewis & one of my favorites, DJ Quik. I've read some criticism about the spot regarding the theme of the commercial. Some think it stereotypes the black athlete,i.e the gold chains, spinning rims and the rap. I don't see that at all. To me, it purposely looks like an 80's throwback video and it's tastefully done. Now if it had half naked women then it would be offensive. Ironically enough the chorus line of the video is "While you be criticizing, we just be hyperizing..."

Burnt Orange Nation Early Signing Date in 09?

SI reports, in this article, the AFCA will discuss a December signing date.

Given the overwhelming support for a December signing day from coaches -- 73 percent of Bowl Subdivision head coaches and 82 percent of Championship Subdivision head coaches back the plan, according to a USA Today story -- it seems likely the commissioners will seriously consider implementing the proposal for a three-year trial period that would begin this year.

Personally, I think this would create a yearly coup for Mack Brown and Co. They could sign all the kids who love UT then go out and get the OOS or undecided recruits. Obviously, all the big time programs would dominate recruiting wars, which is main reason I don't think it'll happen. What says the BON?

Burnt Orange Nation Kennard not ready to commit

According to this article, DK apparently didn't committ to Carroll yesterday. At least, UT is still working hard to sign him.

Hinds said Devon Kennard, the No. 6 prospect in the nation according to Rivals.com, had a few visitors yesterday and today. Arizona State stopped by Monday morning, and were followed by Southern California coach Pete Carroll. Arizona State then stopped by again later Monday, and then Texas, fresh off its Fiesta Bowl win, visited Tuesday.

"He's not ready to commit, though," Hinds said. "I talked to him today and he goes, 'Coach, I still don't know what I'm going to do.' He said at least a couple of more weeks, so that's going to take us at least up until signing day."

Burnt Orange Nation Kennard to USC!?!

First the whole Jmac thing and now I read this on Rivals...

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=894448

While five-star defensive end Devon Kennard from Phoenix (Ariz.) Desert Vista will not be in San Antonio until Thursday, a source on the West squad trying to recruit Kennard to Texas said that despite a good visit to Austin that Kennard will be heading to Southern Cal. Kennard has taken official visits to Cal, Southern Cal and Texas and could be ready to make his decision soon.

Is it me or do we seem not to do well with these late committing recruits? I must admit I thought Muschamp would be a difference maker. My confidence is waning a little.
