Mark Cuban draws on WWE history
"Let the best man win," Prokhorov said, joking about his competition with Cuban to sign Williams. "If he wins, I will crush him in a kickboxing throwdown."
The 6-foot-9 Prokhorov has a significant reach advantage over Cuban, but it wouldn't be Cuban's first brawl with a much bigger foe.
"He obviously didn't see me be the first in WWE history to put Sheamus on the mat," Cuban replied Wednesday night via email, referring to his guest host appearance on "Monday Night Raw" in 2009. "He knows not what he gets himself into."
Trading for Dwight Now Is Like....
The marshmallow experiment is a famous test of this concept conducted by Walter Mischel at Stanford University and discussed by Daniel Goleman in his popular work. In the 1960s, a group of four-year olds were given a marshmallow and promised another, only if they could wait 20 minutes before eating the first one. Some children could wait and others could not. The researchers then followed the progress of each child into adolescence, and demonstrated that those with the ability to wait were better adjusted and more dependable (determined via surveys of their parents and teachers), and scored an average of 210 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Dwight is the marshmallow on the plate. You can have the marshmallow right now if you want, but If you wait until July to eat the marshmallow, you can have Dwight AND Lopez! Don't eat the marshmallow people!
Just saw this commercial recently. Beadle looking better than ever!
UH-OH BROOK (Rip-Through Rules Change!)
"Rip-through" moves, in which an offensive player swings the ball into a defender's outstretched arm and then attempts a shot once he has created contact, will be considered non-shooting fouls if the contact begins before the offensive player starts his shooting motion.
Also, on drives to the basket, a shooting foul will be called only if contact occurs after the offensive player has begun his shooting motion, not after he has initiated his leap toward the basket.
"Certain types of contact involving the shooter were all being called in his favor," Jackson said. "It doesn't look good for the game. There was a strong feeling that those types of plays were creating an ill-advised reward for the shooter, often with three free throws."
ESPN 5-on-5: Nets
been waiting for our team to get covered in this series!
Walked by the Barclays Center site today and this guys was doing this painting. It looked great, pretty much like a photograph.
lol. "The Boshtrich"
This came up in another thread... Brandan Wright looks like the love child of Kerry Kittles and K-Mart. Kind of plays like it too.
That's my question! Originally it said "Dear Ian and Mike," but they edited out Ian because Marv was calling the game. So then Marv took issue with being left out, hehe. They also left out my last name because I guess they don't use people's last names.
Daily Dime: D-Will's Dime Feats Keep Hope Kindled
Great to see D-Will featured in the Daily Dime today. We all knew we needed a star player and it's gratifying to see the actual dividends paying so quickly, on the court and in the media.
Saw this mentioned in Basketball John's post. I have a Cafepress shop so I made a 8>3 shirt.

An NYC subway ad for the Knicks. Reads "From Jumps Hooks to No-Looks." Jumps Hooks? Am I missing something or is that a terrible typo?

YES HD / Time Warner Cable Glitchy Broadcasts
To those who are watching the games on YES HD on Time Warner Cable:
Are you experiencing glitchy performance with your broadcast? For the last two games I've gotten really annoying glitches where every so often the broadcast will suddenly jump ahead several seconds. A play will be developing, and then suddenly the play is over and you don't know what happened. It has happened all throughout the game for the past two games. There's also spots where it jumps into fast-forward or rewinds briefly. In fact for the Clippers game the set-top box actually crashed before the game was over.
Has anyone else experience this stuff, or is it just me?

We Need Some "ALL NEW" Score Keeping on YES
This occurred to me while watching the Miami/Boston game on TNT. TNT has a nice score display. When someone scores, there is a nice animation of the team's logo in the scoreboard, and then the number flips, updating the score. It happens a moment or two after the ball goes in the basket, and the timing is consistent. This is the right way to display the score.
On the Nets broadcast, there is no animation on the scoreboard, and no consistency with the timing of the score update. Sometimes it happens right after the basket. Sometimes the score doesn't update until the next possession is well underway. Sometimes it doesn't update at all, and then the scoreboard disappears, and won't reappear until after the next commercial break. When a 3-pointer is scored, sometimes the score increases by 3. Other times, the score increases by two, and then by 1. Just not very inconsistent at all.
I would love to see a more advanced scoreboard design with animations. I guess they would also need to hire motivated people to update the score. It seems right now that whoever is doing it is disinterested, or it isn't their main job.

Brooklyn Nets Uniform Design Ideas
I've been thinking a lot about what the Nets might look like when they move to Brooklyn, so I decided to mock up some ideas for uniform designs. I'm creating the fan post as a place to post the designs as I come up with them and get feedback.
The first design is just going for simple and clean, like the Yankees, with a pinstripe.
A sportier version of the same concept, in red white & blue:
Then I got to thinking about Brooklyn imagery and history. This design uses the shape of the Brooklyn Bridge arches along the sides, and also uses the same color palette as the American Army uniforms from the Battle of Brooklyn.
And the same concept in a powder blue/white palette.
Looks kinda like the Magic so maybe a darker blue would work better for this version. I'm digging the look of the arches though.
If/when more ideas come up I will post them in here!

Avery Johnson Conference Call
Hopefully this isn't considered redundant because it is linked in the "Meet The New Nets" story, but I thought it deserved more notice in case anyone missed it. Lots of good info in here from Avery.
http://www.nba.com/nets/media/avery_sth_conference_call_100714.mp3
He talks about: Favors' potential; evaluation of T-Will; being reunited with Devin; Outlaw's contract; Avery's planned offensive scheme; managing play time for players at deep positions; the goal for the 2010-11 season; Avery's planned defensive scheme; winning close games; comparing Nets to OKC Thunder; playing Outlaw at the 4; experimenting with the starting lineup; making the playoffs this season; Plan B; assessment of Damion James; Favors' Summer League performance.
