Gang Green Nation Joe Namath as a legend?

Has anyone seen this yet?

http://www.sportslegendschallenge.com

I wonder if he will try to kiss any of the other legends lol

Evidently they are playing in a poker tournament in September that fans can attend and actually PLAY WITH the other legends. Pretty cool idea.

From what I have read this is like a fan fantasy type event, would anyone actually care about going to something like this? I would probably consider it depending on what other greats are there.

Silver Screen and Roll Jerry West Interview

Did anyone notice the Jerry West interview last night?? He brought up that he is playing in a poker tournament with other sports legends this fall.

Seemed like a really cool idea, so i looked it up..evidently it is called The Sports Legends Challenge and its a fan experience that people can take part in.

I wonder who the other legends are? Has anyone heard more about this?

Also found this, which is pretty cool.

Minor League Ball Michael Taylor

curious to see what other people think of him. big, physical and storng guy who can run...was old for the leagues last year, where he played very well but did not hit for much power.

the word was that playing at stanford messed up his swing and he is making major adjustments. he already has 6 HRs as well as an outstanding 11:15 walk/K ratio.

Signs point to this guy being legit and I will go out on a limb and say he finishes te year as a top 30-40 prospect since he is well on his way to a 20/20 year along with great peripherals.

Blogging The Boys Aikman v. other great QBs

A friend and I were arguining about where Aikman's place in QB history glory is/will be.

He thinks Aikman is a top 10 QB because of the 3 super bowl rings. I think he is around 17-20.

I defend myself by saying this: his TD to INT ratio is only 165:141. and he averaged less than 200 yards/game in his career.

Automatically have guys like manning, brady, favre, unitas, marino, elway, staubach, starr, namath, and montana ahead of him.

That is 10 right there, so where does he rank!?

Pinstripe Alley Reggie Jackson

I am curious where Yankee fans view him in terms of their all time greats. I have no connection to the Yankees but thought this would be an interesting topic after arguing with a friend about it.

From the outside looking in, I feel he was somewhat of a problem child, and the ESPN show a few years ago portrayed him in somewhat of a negative light.

The guy hit 144 HRs in only 5 seasons

I posted a poll with the options of top 10, 20, and 50. I assumed no one would try to argue he is top 5.

Poll
Where does Reggie Jackson rank in terms of all time Yankee greats?

Camden Chat Brooks Robinson

What current major leaguers do you guys think compare to him? Got into an arguement with a friend and am looking for feedback.

Obviously he has the 16 gold gloves, but only hit 268 career HRs with a career OBP of .322.

Does the fact that he played in 15 all star games matter? or was that a product of the time period?

What are yours thoughts compared to current players and where do you tihnk he ranks in terms of all tme great middle infielders/third basemen?

The Falcoholic Matt Ryan Camp

Hi all,

Just wanted to spread the word that Matt Ryan is doing a camp for 7-14 year olds..just signed my son up this afternoon.

Pretty good deal I think..its only $90 if you use the code "mattQB" and sign up online here: http://www.procamps.com/toppsmattryan

Ryan doesn't get anything for doing the camp, just out of the goodness of his heart so I figured I would pass along the info.

Go Falcons!!!

Minor League Ball Article on Mark Prior's mechanics

Yahoo Sports released an article today on Mark Prior that some of you may have already read.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AsCi1T0RVSmRuF8ZXF8.lz0RvLYF?slug=jp-prior031109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Generally, Jeff Passan is a good writer that I typically enjoy reading. Obviously alot  has been made of Prior's mechanics on the internet.

I am curious on everyone's thoughts on the article.

Here are a few snipets but I advise everyone to read most of it.

"Back then, the Inverted W meant nothing. Today, it’s the likeliest culprit for Prior’s injuries, according to some armchair biomechanists: the part of his motion where his elbows end up higher than the plane of his shoulders, make a shape like an upside-down W and supposedly cause considerable strain on the arm."

"House, now the pitching coach at USC and no longer working with Prior, does not believe the Inverted W hurts a pitcher’s arm. He said years of science and research support his methods. Same with doctors at the American Sports Medicine Institute, including famed surgeon James Andrews."

"And to those who make a fuss about the Inverted W and point out that House’s prized student has been laid up for years? Well, House said, “They don’t know their asses from a boat paddle.”

Minor League Ball BA Top 100 (lost spots you do not like)

Link : http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2009/267698.html

Overall, I like KG's list a little more (even with his infatuation with younger players).

Here is what I found interesting in BA's top 100:

Hanson was #4 overall and the top pitcher.

Bumgarner at #9 is the lowest I have seen him

ALcides Escobar at #19 is just flat out high to me

Positionless Matt Gamel at #34 is high

Jason Castro at # 53 is just aweful IMO

Brett Cecil at #72 is low

John Niese is actually on the list

One pitching wonder Brad Holt at $94.

Talking Chop 2009 Draft

The Braves are in a unique and uncharted position this upcoming draft: picking 7th.

This years draft profile some very good college players: Stephen Strasburg, Alex White, Grant Green, Dustin Ackley, Kyle Gibson, and also Aaron Crow (who did not sign with the Nats).

Also, there is Georgia HS centerfielder Donovan Tate (great athlete, commited to play football and baseball at UNC) and also projectable high school pichers Tyler Matzek, Matt Purke as well as a 5 tool SS in Mychael Givens...

Question is: What do you see Roy Clark doing? Might have to go over slot to get a really good college player, but they profile as really really players. Or will they draft a high school player for slot money.

Personally, I do not see us signing a guy for $2 -4 million. I wouldnt be surprised to see us take ANOTHER projectable high school lefty.

Minor League Ball Rank your top 5 farm systems

"Birdfan" started a good post abotu the most overrated system and it seems like the A's and Yankees both got alot of attention.

How about everyone rank their top 5, and keep your reasons/explanations somewhat consice (no one wants to read a long winded essay on here)

For me, I tend to rank elite prospects higher than having alot of depth. 2 elite prospects is worth 10 decent players in my mind because decent utility players and fringe starters are obviously alot easier to find than all stars.

My top 5:

Rangers

Braves ( I can defend if I have to)

Marlins

Giants

Orioles

Minor League Ball Top 5 College Pitchers

My list, I would imagine is going to generate some discussion because I do not have Friedrich on there

http://21nunder.wordpress.com/2008/04/15/top-5-college-pitchers/

I think I have a good reason why I am not a fan of Friedrich. I did not say "I do not like" someone in fear of someone freaking out again lol.

Please leave your list of top 5. and maybe a reason why if your list goes against the general consensus.

Minor League Ball Top 5 college position players

New post on my blog.

http://21nunder.wordpress.com/

I have a feeling there will be mixed opinions, so I am curious how everyone ranks them.

I would encourage everyone to keep in mind position scarcity and the value of an offensive player playing up the middle.

Minor League Ball Miami 1st Rounders

I will be attending the Miami v. GA Tech series this weekend and report on my blog: http://21nunder.blogspot.com/

The obvious guys who I will be video taping and looking at are the 3 potential 1st rounders for Miami - Alonso, Raben, and Weeks

My question is, does anyone want me to tape and report on any of the other players for GT or Miami?

If so, please leave their names and possible positions.

Minor League Ball Crow v. Matusz

Posted in my blog I compared Crow and Matusz

http://21nunder.blogspot.com/

Essentailly I said this: Crow's two best pitches are better than Matusz's best two. However, Matusz has a better delivery, a better 3rd pitch, and is LHP. Furthermore, he will be much cheaper than Crow from the sound of things.

Question is this: who will be the first pitcher taken? Not who is BETTER, but who will be the first taken.

Minor League Ball Hosmer v. Smoak v. Alonso

Who would you rather have?

Alonso - best pure OBP and avg. guy out of the three. Power is a serious question

Smoak - results havent always been there since he was the Cape Cod MVP his soph. year.

Hosmer - Scouts rave about the swing...drawing comparisons to Giambi, Texeira, Kotchman...
