How Does Bama Benefit?

Like many Bama fans, I have often debated over other games and even argued with other Bama fans as to how the outcome might affect Bama in the polls. There is no clear cut solution to this problem because we all have our most hated teams (mine is notre Lame), that even if they were playing the Chinese we would wear our best Chicomm shirt (ie: the barners).

And this weekend is like everyone before, so lets look and see who we should be pulling for and why.

Ole Miss over SC - because we need the Rebs to be as high in the polls as possible so when we beat them in 2 weeks, it benefits Bama

VT over Miami _ we do NOT need the media slobbering all over the canes as they breeze through the weak ACC, and the better VT does, the better for our Strength of Schedule

Iowa over Penn St - we also do not need the sympathy vote going for JoePa as it almost was last year, they are an average team at best playing in a very weak Big 10, how about some help Hawkeyes.

LSwho over MSU - once again it goes back to wanting the bayou bengals at the highest when we skin them tigers, don't think they'll have a problem this week

As for Florida and Texas, well, that goes without saying, but I doubt there is much chance this week, but here's routing for the underdog.

It's not that I'm trying to be the first, but I'm planning on going to my first A-day game and was wondering if anyone had made or was planning a tailgate get together? I'm looking forward to putting a face with many of the names that are here on RBR and getting to see the game. I know that it just the A-day game, but any chance to go to BDS and see Bama is worth it.

I am also curious about our qb situation and how Mc and Star will do now the starting job is on the line. I want to see how our offensive line and who will step up and take the RB position.

One more thing, I know that I've probably missed it, but when does spring practice begin? And when do those great spring practice threads start also, because though I don't post much I read RBR most everyday. Looking forward to 2009!

Roll Tide Roll !!!!!!

What you wore or did to bring the Tide luck this year?

This question has been buzzing around my head since I lost my Crimson Tide wrist band that a child gave me. I put it on at the beginning of the season along with my new black Crimson Tide's Rollin t-shirt and we went undefeated. But, I misplaced it right before the SECC game and didn't find it until this past weekend and of course you know the outcome since.

So the question I have is, Am I the only one who puts on these type items or are there others that go even further than I, (which I have a feeling there are). And what other little routines do others do for a Tide victory.

Whatever it is we all do, we must keep it up and be ready for next season. Roll Tide!

Dye says CNS giving barners bad press, WHAT?

I watched a sports report last night the pat "please shut up and"dye, was blaming CNS and Bama for the bad press that the barners were getting. I don't cuss anymore but I just about lost my religion. Are you kidding me? Did he really say that? If he did, will somebody please escort pat back to farm, and let him lay with his little animals and leave the football the grown ups.

CNS has better things to do than even talk about au, pat. He is out recruiting and get ready to kick your "families" behinds again on the recruiting trail and football field. The au football powers that be have done enough to make your program look bad, CNS and the Bama nation don't need to say a word. Your all doing a fine job, PLEASE, keep it up. Roll Tide!!

Did anyone happen to catch AJ McCarrin's comments about the qb situation at Bama as he comes in next year. His comment was that at worst he expected to be the backup and challenge McElroy for the starting job and at worst to be red-shirted and be the backup for 2010, then be the starter for 3 years. Sure do like the confidence, but what about Star Jackson? I know that we are preparing for the Sugar Bowl and all, but it little glimpse into what looks like a very good qb battle was to much to pass up.

PS . TV also had a shot of DJ Fluker and his size. He has a size 22 foot. I had to Tivo that and make sure I didn't miss it. That's enormous!! They also showed at the table eating, WOW! Can you imagine what buffet people would say if they say DJ and Mt Cody coming in the door at the same time! Just a thought.
Before I get started and take make sure there is no confusion, I am the BIGGEST CNS fan and wouldn't want anyone else for our coach.

So, after watching Georgia Tech run all over Miami thursday night, I just wondered what it would have been like if CNS hadn't taken the job and Bama hired Johnson. Would the offense that Johnson runs at GT work at Bama and in the SEC. I must say that I was impressed with the offense they run, though GT has been inconsistent at times this year, I enjoy the old school look of the option.

Just a thought to ponder on this bye week.

Why is there little hype for MSU game?

I must say that I am somewhat concerned over the lack of hype among fans as to the upcoming game with Miss. St. Though I'm feel that our team does not lack the focus,ie: JPW's comments after the LSU game not wanting to talk about the SEC champship game yet. But it seems that there is very little talk about the game from fans. I work in sales where people are coming in and out and calling in all day long and most fans are glossing over the MSU game. Talk of the beating the barners and why won't the talking heads on ESPN give us a chance of beating the gators? First things First!!!!

Fact is we haven't scored an offensive touchdown since 2004 and have been embarrassed by the bulldogs for the last 2 years. This is not a game we as fans can overlook and if I could be there at the game to do my part, but work and family won't allow. I hope that there is plenty of noise and that the fans don't come in sitting on there hands and waiting for a blow out.

Let us all learn from our coach and stay focused on the task at hand. Without beating MSU this weekend there is no hope for a NC. I am ready for us to be the living daylights out the loud mouth barners this year as much as the next fan, but lets take of the beating the pesky little dogs first. ROLL TIDE!!!!!

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how one of the most storied (it makes me sick to write it) rivalries in College Football has become one of the "who cares" games of the year. After hearing Charlie (Northern Fat Boy, Fat Phil's Southern Cousin, etc......)Weis run his mouth about Michigan, then try to back-up faster than a politician, that is about the only fire that will come from this game. I hope that this game much like I did last year, ends in 0 - 0 tie. I use to like Michigan, a little, and I always lothed ND, but after some of the Maze and Blue haters decided to chime in on RBR and show their ignorance, there is no way that I will pull for either team. This will be one of the most boring games of the year.

I can't remember in all of my over 40 years of being a Bama fan, can't remember any one Wide Reciever that has the hypa and hope of the Bama nation so high. I truly hope that he lives up to it all and we can enjoy some magical catches over the next four years. With that being said, it got me a little nostalgic, and I began to debate with others who are the greatest recievers in Bama history. I know we didn't always pass the ball much, through the 70's and 80's , but some great ones came through. So I am going to make my list and would like to see some other thoughts.

1. The Wizard of Oz, Ozzie Newsome

2. Joey Jones

3. Tyrone Protho

4. Don Hudson

5. Dennis Homan

6. Albert Bell

7. Paul Bryant (ok, I'm cheating a little, so bite me)

8. Kevin Turner (ok he was a FB, did you see some of the catches he made)

9. Patrick Hape (again a personal pick, I know him)

10. Well. my mind has gone blank, so how about a little help!!!!!

there was a program about the Alabama football program, and specifically about Coach Saban. I thought that it was tremendous. It showed our football team in a great light especially the players and the attitude they have and the spirit of winning, pride and commitment that I have not seen there in ages. Rashad Johnson was one of the players interviewed and he was well spoken and very upbeat. I was very impressed by him as well as the rest of the players talked to.

But most of the time of the show went to Coach Saban, and was I completely blown away, WHAT A GUY! His work ethic and attitude with the players was one that I was more than impressed by. I would send my son to play for him, not just because of the football knowledge but because of the commitment he had to the players as young men and students also. The academic center they showed was something else too.

I truly believe in Coach Saban even more than before, and the man that he seems to be. I look forward to many years of not just great football, and great football players, but great young men that will come from Alabama, having been coached by a great man. Roll Tide.
