not that huge a deal, but another potential OC off the Bears' list.

This story is in today's Tennessean ... It talks about how the late great Steve McNair coached up Jay Cutler prior to the 2006 Senior Bowl and how the two developed a friendship over the past few years. Excellent read.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Disarmed -- Dumping Zambrano?

The Trib ran a reader poll yesterday with "fans" voting to cast Z off Cubbie Island. While I'm sure Sox fans sabotaged this poll, I wondered what the consensus was here.

It makes little sense fiscally to dump Zambrano at this point. Phil Rogers acknowledges this, yet still thinks the time is right to ship Z outta Chicago. He mentions his poor playoff performances and of course his childish temper as reasons for the Cubs to get rid of their ace, and while I too am tired of Z's garbage, I think he's still a dominant pitcher and one that has helped this team, more than he has hurt it.

Given all that has happened to this squad so far this year, it appears that the media is just as much on the ledge with this team as some of the fans. Calls to dump Zambrano, Bradley, etc. seem to just fuel the impatient fire. While I think this team needs to be blown up and rebuilt, the rotation is still one of the more solid ones in the NL. While Harden is a bargaining chip, Z is not.

Dump Zambrano?

Bleed Cubbie Blue Soto fails drug test

This might explain the reason he's carrying a bit more weight this season, or the slow bat ... but probably not. No worries, it's an isolated incident and was during the WCB.  Geo, I see some pain behind those eyes ... you know what cures that sadness ... weed.

i don't have enough BS to fill this post with and would rather you just read the link for more information because i'm not a baseball reporter like Paul Sullivan, just a messenger. I hope this fills my 75 word minimum quota.

Somewhere between Torry Holt possibly heading to Tennessee and Plaxico Burress likely headed to jail is Marvin Harrison ... likely to go unsigned?

Windy City Gridiron Mark Carrier vs. Mike Brown

The safety position is an area that seems to get overlooked in a city known for linebackers. Mike Brown's departure seems to have left a void in a position that is critical to pass coverage as it is to the run.

Windy City Gridiron Smith tanks Pro Day

Nobody ever said Alabama OT Andre Smith was a smart guy. His showing today at his workout for NFL scouts was less than stellar according to SportingNews. The Sun Times says otherwise. Either way, cash must not be an issue for him because he's burning it with these results following his combine showing (or lack there of). There's some speculation he'll fall out of the first round, maybe as far as the third. If he's there on a second pass for the Bears -- do they want him? Lovie isn't exactly a fire starter that could get Smith to play like the Outland Trophy winner he is. But I don't put it past Angelo to try it anyway.
