Bloody Elbow PUNISHING Anderson Silva

I woke up this morning wondering how Dana could punish Anderson.

I was looking for an insiders point of view. And that is exactly what you gave me this morning with an article at Sherdog. I agree 100% with that article:

"It’s clear that Silva thinks his business is done at 185 pounds, an attitude evidenced by the blunt disgust in his body language during his last three defenses. Strip him and mandate a permanent move to the 205-pound division, where there will be no end of fighters looking to get in his face, plant him, or press the action. If he refuses to fight friend Lyoto Machida, send him to the heavyweights. Cain Velasquez, Brock Lesnar, and Shane Carwin aren’t about to stand and blink at him for five seconds, let alone five rounds."

Do you agree with this punishment?

Bloody Elbow UFC "Fixes Fights" Via Ring Rust!

A recent post on a MMAjunkie reveals that more than 9 out of 10 MMA fighters with "Ring Rust" loose fights.

It's also likely that UFC/Zuffa, being a Billion dollar business, has been armed with detailed stats of how "Ring Rust" can forecast the winner and looser of a fight. By controlling the outcome of a fight the promotion can limit the number of fighters it will build up as "top of the food chain", limit the number of fighters it will offer top pay, and allow it to shape future PPV fights that will deliver more profits.

For example, just a few of the fights in the last 2 years with Championship implications include these "ring rust" opponents with at least a 9 month layoff:

Randy Couture 14 Months - Loss (KO - Lesnar)

Rodrigo Nogueira 11 Months - Loss (TKO - Mir)

Roger Huerta 9 Months - Loss (Dec - Florian)

Kenny Florian 9 Months - Loss (Sub - Penn)

Sean Sherk 10 Months - Loss (TKO - Penn)

Thiago Alves 9 Months - Loss (Dec - St-Pierre)

Akihiro Gono 11 months - Loss (Dec - Hardy)

By selecting "ring rust" opponents the UFC can more easily predetermine who might win a fight and control future PPV profits.

For example: The UFC has already stated the winner of the Carwin/Mir fight will fight Brock Lesnar when he returns in the summer. On the surface it appears as though the UFC has no control, but the history of ring rust suggests the opposite.

This weekend's fight between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin has Carwin coming into the fight with over 1 year out of the ring. Ring rust for Carwin will give Frank Mir the edge to win and Mir would be the next opponent for Brock Lesnar.

A Lesnar/Mir 3 fight would be a much more profitable PPV, and potential future fight between the two, than a Lesnar/Carwin fight.

Once that Lesnar/Mir 3 fight takes place, Brock Lesnar's ring rust of more than one year would serve Frank Mir up as the Champ. The UFC can then tout Mir as "The best" since he beat Lesnar a second time and that would most likely deliver a Lesnar/Mir 4 and Lesnar/Mir 5 soon after.

Perhaps the UFC can let up some control and create tournaments, so we can find out who is really the best among it's fighters.

MMAmania.com Must Watch MMA on TV This Week: 3 LIVE Cards w/UFC and Hendo!

Are you a hardcore MMA fan like me? Well, you've come to the right place. Every week I'll let you know exactly where to find the best MMA on TV.

This week (March 19 - March 25) there are 3 solid live MMA cards on TV. Most MMA fans know UFC fighters, but I know exactly where you can find up and coming phenoms that are a thrill to watch in other promotions as well.

FRIDAY, MARCH 19th
LIVE on HDnet: XFC 10, Night of Champions - I really enjoyed watching all 4 Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) live cards last year on the HDnet channel. The HDnet production crew are as good as it gets, which means if feels like your inside the cage! And this one which will air live in Tampa, Florida looks like the best one yet.

Former UFC fighter Junior Assuncao faces John Mahlow are featured in the lightweight title bout. “I’m just exited to be fighting again…if it goes five rounds its going to be a good test for me,” Assuncao said about his upcoming bout against Mahlow. “Mahlow is a good fighter and I’m sure he is going to give me a good fight.” Coming off a three-fight-win streak will no doubt give Assuncao significant momentum.

Undefeated Jason “The Ironman” Wood squares off with reigning XFC featherweight champion “Wild Card” Jarrod Card for the title. Champ Jarrod Card has beaten multiple WEC veterans, and was only the second fighter to beat the very tough, durable, and experienced Jeff Bedard. What's cool about HDnet is that they usually show every fight on the card.

One of the fighters I'm most excited to see again is 23 year old Christopher "Beast Boy" Barnett. Not even in the UFC, have I seen a heavyweight move like the dynamic Beast Boy. At 265 lbs, he moves like a 150lb olympic gymnast/boxer/wrestler! You just have to see this kid move around - it’s shocking. The "Beast Boy" will fight Xtreme Couture's Jay White. Here's the entire XFC 10 fight card (a live 3 hour broadcast.)

Friday March 19th
On HDnet: "Inside MMA" features guests Dan Henderson who will fight Jake Shields for the Strikeforce Middleweight belt on April 17th on CBS, Mike Straka who is the host of "Fighting Words with Mike Straka" which premieres on HDNet on 3/26, and Donovan Craig, the Editor in Chief of Fight! Magazine. I never miss this one hour MMA news show because they always have the hottest names in MMA. I've seen GSP, Anderson "The Spider" Silva, Urijah Faber, Randy Couture and the list goes on and on.

SUNDAY, MARCH 21st
LIVE on Versus: UFC on Versus 1
- Two of the most dynamic light heavyweights in the game clash, when Muay Thai ace Brandon “The Truth” Vera takes on dangerous 22-year-old Jon “Bones” Jones at the 1ST Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo. Also promised to be broadcast is Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga, Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello, and Alessio Sakara vs. James Irvin (a live 2 hour broadcast.) These fighters are well known, so I won't go into detail.

MONDAY, MARCH 22nd
LIVE on HDNet: DREAM 13.
All seven fights will be televised live from Yokohama Arena, Yokohama, Japan on HDNet at 3AM EST. DREAM fights are true events and are a blast to watch in HD. The DREAM Featherweight Title on the line with Champ Bibiano "The Flash" Fernandez (ranked #4 in the world) vs. Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen who is dropping down to this weight class for the first time.

Former EliteXC champ K.J. Noons who recently signed with Strikeforce after taking an MMA sabbatical to compete in pro boxing, takes his first fight in nearly two years when he meets Andre Dida. This card also features Josh "The Babyfaced Assassin" Barnett who will fight Siala "Mighty Mo" Siligia. The always fascinating Ikuhisa "The Punk" Minowa, or as some call him Minowa-Man, will fight Jimmy "The Titan" Ambriz.

It is sure to be an action packed card filled with exciting fights from top to bottom. Here is much more on the entire Dream 13 card (a live 4.5 hour broadcast!)

Call your cable or satellite provider to make sure you have all these channels to watch the 20 live MMA cards taking place in the next 2 months: HDnet, Spike, Fox Sports Network (FSN), Showtime, and Versus(VS). HDNet is crucial to me, as they have more live MMA than any network in the world. Some cable provider don’t offer HDnet - If that is the case for you, I'd suggest you move up to Dish Network or Direct TV. A special thanks to those who have had so many nice things to say about my at-a-glance MMA on TV calendar I created for the dozens of the LIVE shows on TV in the weeks ahead. There is nothing on the internet like it.

MMAmania.com POLL: Are YOU a True MMA Fan?

Bellator has something brand new for true fans of MMA. Weekly Live Tournaments.

Years ago Pride found success with holding annual tournaments in an effort to find the very best fighter of that year. Thanks to a series of action-packed tournament fights by some of the world's top fighters last year, Bellator became an overnight sensation. Sports Illustrated called Bellator "MMA's success story of the year" while ESPN.com raved that Bellator "offered up some of the most electric moments of the year."

Bellator Season 2, which debuts on Apr. 8, 2010, will feature eight-man tournaments in four divisions:

      Featherweight (145 lbs.)

      Lightweight (155 lbs.)

      Welterweight (170 lbs.)

      Middleweight (185 lbs.)

Winners in each division will be declared the No. 1 contender to fight each of Bellator's Season 1 champions:

      Joe Soto (8-0) (featherweight)

      Eddie Alvarez (19-2) (lightweight)

      Lyman Good (10-0) (welterweight)

      Hector Lombard (24-2-1) (middleweight)

Talented fighters are choosing Bellator over the UFC and Strikeforce in droves to gain control of thier carreers. Sherdog tells the story best.

Season 2 fights will be conducted over 12 consecutive weeks and will be available in virtually every home in the U.S. thanks to one of the largest TV distribution alliances in MMA history. Under this landscape-altering deal, each Bellator event will be distributed LIVE in prime time on Thursday nights on FOX Sports Net and its regional sports network affiliates. The top moments from each week's live events will then be condensed into an action-packed 30-minute highlight show, broadcast every Saturday night, late night, on NBC. A one-hour highlight show will air in Spanish on Telemundo every Saturday night from midnight to 1 a.m.

Check your local listings for times. Bellator Season 3-which begins Aug. 12, 2010-will also be televised at the same times on each of these networks.

MMAmania.com Do you LOVE MMA on your TV?

I love all MMA! Especially live events I can watch at home (in HD).

UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, Dream, Sengoku, XFC, MFC, KOC and K1 are what I love to watch and I have Dish Network with all the channels.

I've been searching for an at a glance, month by month calendar that shows where and when Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is broadcast on different TV channels. I've not found one yet, so I just created one today. Please look at the "MMA ON TV CALENDAR" here. Please feel free to send me your comments, or TV Broadcasts that you think I missed. Or, if you know of an MMA star that might be on a talk show.

The calendar includes when all the promotions above are airing live cards, as well as when MMA news shows will be on and when MMA stars are on other TV shows like the upcoming NCIS on CBS. I've done March from today on and April. I'll update May when I hear back from anyone. Also, if you know of a better calendar, please share it here as well, so others may find the calendar they like best. I hope this calendar inspires a good MMA blog like mmajunkie, sherdog or mmamania to make an even better at a glance calendar.

I really want to hear from you to make this calendar better.

Please comment, and share the calendar with other MMA fans you know.

MMAmania.com BREAKING NEWS: James Toney First TV Interview On HDnet Friday!

James Toney has the trash talk aspect of MMA figured out from his days as a boxer.  Now he just has to figure out the fighting part of MMA.  Forget the warm up fight, Toney is setting his sights on Brock Lesnar, according to what he says on the next episode of Inside MMA.

The UFC’s newest fighter, former boxing champion James Toney joins another former boxing champion, Ray Mercer and KJ Noons on the panel with Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten as they discuss boxing’s influence on MMA. Reporter Ron Kruck also talks to world renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach.

Inside MMA airs Fridays at 9 ET on HDNet.

See a video clip HERE.

----------------------------------------------------

Please note that this is NOT a paid advertisement for HDnet. I'm just a huge fan of MMA and this channel, and when I talk to people that like to watch MMA, I'm shocked that most have no idea that the channel exists, let alone has more fights than any other chennel on TV. I'm just sharing some great info with fello fans. Thanks.
