Perkins, TA, Dwight Howard and other Celtics thoughts...
So Ainge wouldn't sign Tony Allen, seemingly because he didn't want to be paying him in the 2012 season. This means, to me, that Ainge must have his eye on someone big for that year...but before we get into that. If TA ended up signing a 3 year $10million deal and we REALLY didn't wanna pay him for that 3rd year, why didn't we sign him to a 2 year $5million deal. I mean, I know that's (maybe) overpaying for Tony but come on, we need a wing! There's nobody out there!! Now even if we get another wing we're still shorthanded at that position! I just don't get this...it's mind boggling. So anyways, I noticed that Dwight Howard can opt out of that year....maybe that's what's on Ainge's mind. If that's the case and we're not trying to spend money into that year, what're we going to do about Perkins? He has one more year on his contract so do we trade him? He's obviously gonna get offers (for more than one year) and I'm not sure we're gonna keep him. I personally think we should keep him (even if we're trying to get Howard. I'll bet we can get Perk at a good price and team them up) but if we're not going to, maybe we should just trade him this year and get a two year big man in return. If we could eventually get Dwight Howard....oh man, would I be happy!
I really do think Danny messed up by letting TA go. We could have overpaid him for less years and kept a valuable wing on our roster for next year. This makes sense ESPECIALLY because we signed Pierce to that crippling 4 year contract just to stay competitive for one year. Also, you could have consider Ray to be a bargain and spend some of that "saved" money on Tony. All in all, I don't get it and I think Danny messed up. We'll see how it plays out though....maybe they feel we have a decent rookie for that backup wing spot. Otherwise, I think we're in trouble this year.
The Heat will win the championship and here's the roster they do it with...
Ok so let's figure out the Miami Heat salary. Currently they have contracts of:
Chalmers 1 year $847,000
Lebron/Bosh 6 years $110.1 million
Wade 6 years $107.5 million
And lets project:
Haslem 5 years $20 million
Miller 5 years $30 million
Z (I can't spell his name) 2 years vet min
Some Rookie for unknown amount
Now we need to figure out each players salary for the next season. For Lebron, Wade and Bosh we take the contract amount and divide it by 1+1.105+1.105^2+...+1.105^5. This takes care of 10.5% annual pay increases over the length of the contract. For Haslem and Miller we divide by 1+1.08+1.08^2+...+1.08^4. This takes care of 8% annual pay increases. So now we have:
Lebron $14.0908044 million
Bosh $14.0908044 million
Wade $13.7580515 million
Haslem $3.24350991 million
Miller $5.11369364 million
Chalmers $0.847 million
For a total of $51.0838649 million
Now say they give the rookie $500k. That brings them up to $51.5838649 million with 7 players under roster. Well Dampier got traded to the Bobcats and they might release him because his $13million contract is not guaranteed. I read that if this happens he does not want to go back to Dallas....but I bet Miami could convince him to sign there for the same as Udonis Haslem. He's already been overpaid his whole career so taking a pay cut now is probably not a huge deal...also EVERYONE on this team is taking a pay cut! Damp is 35 and who knows, maybe he can be convinced that 2 years $7million isn't so bad considering he's going to win a title. If they can swing that (that being Dampier at the exact same price as Haslem) then they'll be at $54.82737376million with 8 players under roster. Now since they need 12 players under roster they'd have cap hold of $475k per spot for 4 spots. That's a total of $1.9million which brings them up to $56.7273738million. The cap for next year is $58.044million, which gives them about $1.32million to spend. Well...Matt Barnes opted out of his $1.6million this year for a contract with more years. Only, the Magic aren't offering him one. In fact they signed Quintin Richardson. Barnes could take a 3 year, roughly, $4.5million contract from the Heat (if this is too low, remember the whole pay cuts thing). This would put Miami right on the cap threshold, which is when they will pick up Big Z at the league minimum (because they can go over the cap to do so). This gives them a 10 man roster of Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Miller, Damp, Chalmers, Barnes, Haslem, Z, and some rookie. Now fill the last two spots with ANYONE at the minimum (who knows maybe they can even get someone good...) and they'll have a championship roster. What do you think?? I think this sucks...
Could we get Dampier?
Is this possible? He was just traded to the Bobcats and they might release him (this season is not guaranteed for him). I also read that he isn't too interested in going back to Dallas if he does get released....So, could we get him? If Dallas was thinking they could get him they probably were hoping he'd take the min right? I don't think they have anything to offer him other than that so why not here? Any ideas?
Lebron James and Dwayne Wade make every NBA player look bad...
...especially Joe Johnson. How is it that guys like JJ and Amare NEEDED max deals to feel vindicated but LBJ and Wade settled for less to give their team flexibility?? How can Joe Johnson sleep at night??? He's set to be the highest paid player in the league and he's just not that good. He's the new age TMAC!!! Additionally Pierce should have taken a pay cut for the same reason (I know a lot of you think he has taken a pay cut, but I honestly believe his current deal is fair...).
Sign Ray Allen and Paul Pierce and trade them for Melo...
...it makes sense for both teams. Melo is prolly leaving anyways so why not for Denver? Assuming they're willing to get older, they'll have a starting 5 of Chauncy, Ray, Paul, Kenyon, and Nene. That's pretty sick! Their bench would feature Birdman and JR Smith (and maybe someone they pick up with the MLE). I think they've always REALLY needed a shooter and this gives them one in Ray Allen, while not killing them because Pierce can still score, though not as good as Melo. I'd love to have Melo in Boston.....
The problem with the Celtics
Well obviously not the only problem. But I think we're missing KG's intensity and leadership. Even though he's on the court, he's not the same guy both in terms of his game and his leadership. I think he's not really as intense and in your face as he used to be and I think it's a mental thing because of how he is physically. I just felt like sharing my thoughts...
