I grew up and lived in KC from 1970 to 1991 with an interlude for college at Iowa State University. All my family and oldest friends still live there. Since then, I've lived in Florida, North Carolina, and since 1997 in Seattle. Of course, to this day, the Royals and the Chiefs are my teams. Ain't no place in this world for bandwagon hopper fans.

Here's a very interesting take by a former NU teammate.
Kiper article about Luck
Does anybody have ESPN paid access?
Kiper says:
"Forecasting the NFL draft lineup in September is like forecasting the April weather. There just hasn't been enough football played to make any significant conclusions. That said, I must have been asked 10 times this week about who I thought was "in the lead" for Andrew Luck. Everyone seems convinced that if there was a season to go 0-16, this is the one.
It's a crazy thought, because teams simply don't tank their seasons in the NFL. Not only could having a record like that lead to a new coach and a gutted roster for a team that may have already had some promising young talent, but there are also potentially a couple of other legitimate top-five talents at quarterback in this year's draft class.
But when I mentioned it, my editor said it had to be done. So based on the current odds -- as in who currently has the worst shot to make the Super Bowl, and thus the best shot to have the worst record and land the top overall pick -- here's a look at which teams could be in the lead, why, why not, and whether they could pass up on Luck."
Offensive Line Rankings
Here's a good article about 2011 offensive lines per Rotoworld. They rank the Chiefs #11. In their words:
11. Kansas City Chiefs (4)
LT: Branden Albert
LG: +Ryan Lilja
C: Casey Wiegmann
RG: *Jon Asamoah
RT: Barry Richardson
Thursday's acquisition of Jared Gaither was a high-upside, low-rent move. Still just 25 years old, Jonathan Ogden's onetime heir apparent in Baltimore could emerge as an in-season starter if healthy. Richardson is the group's weak link and would-be odd man out. New starter Asamoah replaces Brian Waters and projects as an instant impact run blocker. Though Albert has struggled with consistency, he dominates on the ground and is only 26. The primary backups are Gaither, second-round G/C Rodney Hudson, and right tackle-only Ryan O'Callaghan (20 career starts).
Biggest beneficiary: Jamaal Charles. This line will open holes.

Commitment and Inspiration
We all know that Arrowhead Pride is the epicenter of Chiefs fanaticism. I certainly know I spend FAR too much time on this well-loved and secretly cursed website discussing, speculating, debating, and arguing. Most of the time we conduct ourselves respectfully but sometimes we kind of lose it and lash out at each other because someone just drives us crazy. But, you know what? That sounds an awful lot like family to me. You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family - or your AP comrades.
As I've said before, I currently live in Seattle but I am able to watch every single Chiefs game albeit usually without sound at a favorite bar in my neighborhood of Ballard. I am usually the only Chiefs guy there holding down the end of the bar and defending our pride. I get there right at opening to make sure I reserve the right tv (although in reality the bar guys save it for me anyway these days) to eat breakfast, drink some coffee, and start with my vitamin C in the form of a greyhound. It's a fun bar because we have expats from nearly every team and pretty much every game gets shown. There are several cool Denver fans, occasional (and mostly cool) Chargers fans, and incredibly annoying Raiders fans.
I've been thinking about it and finally decided to step up my commitment and do my part to help us win the Super Bowl as soon as possible. And, I hope that I can inspire our blood brother community here to join in that quest. So, I challenge you to join me after the jump!!

Golf? All hail Tom Watson!
Really cool story about our local hero Tom Watson. I didn't get to see any of this.
CANADA HERE WE COME!!!!
Here's a humorous article on how to watch the CFL which will begin next week on NFL Network (is that a bad sign?).
Bills new old uniforms
Well, every 5 1/2 weeks or so someone does a fan post about the Chiefs changing their uniforms to some god awful scheme. And, everyone seems to really come out of the woods with all their best design ideas. Here, I think, the Bills are doing the right thing and eschewing modernization and dumping their recent super ugly unis and going old school.
Player for Player Trade
This little nugget (above) says that the Eagles are hoping to trade Kolb for impact veteran players. This will be very interesting to watch as these kinds of trades just don't seem to happen in the NFL.
Here's a neat link to NFL trades of 2009 and 2010. There are more player for player trades than I thought but most are small time trades, not marquee players. Of course, probably the most interesting to us is Brady Quinn for Peyton Hillis (and draft picks). I also thought the Jets trading Stucki and about a hundred picks for Braylon Edwards was kind of dramatic at the time. I never knew about it until now, but I think that nondescript little trade of a CB for a QB (John Beck) is interesting.
Art Still Video! He rocked! I loved that guy.
WR Free Agent market article
Here is an interesting article from over at Rotoworld about the wide receiver market. Breaston is a favorite prospect around these parts but doesn't sound like a very good fit for us - if you believe Silva.
Silva doesn't have any of these guys ending up with the Chiefs, including Chambers who he discusses as someone who will be looking for a job. No surprise to any of us.

Chiefs get compensatory draft pick.
Cool, anything helps.
Quote of the Week: Larry Fitzgerald on living in a post-Kurt Warner Cardinals world: "I've tasted the caviar now, so eating out of the garbage is not where I want to be.

Hilarious Chargers BS
I'm glad to see that Smith is as egotistical, stubborn, and stupider than King Carl became. The Chargers are going down the toilet where they belong.
NFL Films - Arrowhead
I've been out of the country for the last 3 weeks or so - forgive me if this has already been posted previously. I thought it was a cool video.

Larry Johnson - High PPR Value!!
If uninterested in fantasy football you can simply skip to the last paragraph for a hilarious Larry Johnson smackdown.
"Tebow makes me this stiff." exclaims Josh
NE West
This is kind of funny. I don't recall ever seeing this get posted on here but apologies if it has. I just now happened across it working on my upcoming secret project.
Andra Davis?
What's the deal with this guy? I don't think we've heard even the whiff of a rumor that the Chiefs have talked to this guy. Now, it looks like he could be a Bill.
For Cody Lovers
For those of you wishing for Cody, here's another possible 1st Rd spoiler. To go along with San Diego.
Safety Help
Like us, the Jets now need a safety. Here is some analysis from over at Gang Green Nation.
Derrick Johnson
An interesting note regarding the start of free agency yesterday is that there was no sound, no smoke, or anything surrounding Derrick Johnson. At least nothing apparent. Now, I guess it depends on your take on DJ as to what that might mean. Some people think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread and he's just on the bench because we have a dumb coach. There are others who think that DJ is never going to live up to the expectations and hype that came with him since his draft. I am one of those that tend to think he still doesn't get what Haley is trying to instill and I wish that we could get a draft pick or something for him in trade. So what do you guys think about this? Is it simply too early in FA? Or is the lack of interest indicative of DJ's value? To me, I'm a little worried that the other teams are going to confirm my worries by not offering any trades for him.
Haley Caretaker Conspiracy Theory, Part 3?
As we know, Coach Haley has recently filled two important positions, OC and DC, with prominent candidates.
In the case of DC it was very apparent a year ago that Crennel was the primary candidate and that the position was eventually, and very hesitantly, filled by someone already on the staff. After one year, that Caretaker (Pendergast) was ousted for the originally preferred candidate, Crennel, because he finally became available. It is widely suspected by us all that this move was almost entirely planned by Pioli/Haley the whole time.
The case of the OC is a bit more convoluted. Gailey was apparently the man, until he wasn't. The position was, perhaps hesitantly and less than ideally, filled by someone already on the staff, Haley. After one year, the Caretaker (Haley) was ousted for a well connected candidate (Weis) because he became available. A move here was almost certainly going to be made anyway because Haley has stated since he arrived that splitting the HC and OC was his preferred setup. But, I wonder how much of this move was somewhat pre-planned and discussed by Pioli/Haley and Weis the whole time. I think Weis was widely considered to be on the hot seat and this trio may have made pre-arrangements for that eventuality.
That finally brings me to speculate on Part 3. There is another position that was very likely filled by a Caretaker this season with a preplanned successor to be acquired later. That position is QB Coach and was also filled by none other than our beloved Coach Haley. Lo and behold, we have now learned that his friend whom we know he stays in frequent contact with, Kurt Warner, is going to retire. Warner's retirement could not have been a secret from Haley and it seems likely that these two could have been having discussions around this topic all season. So, I suspect that by this time next week QB Coach Haley will be fired by HC Haley and replaced by new QB Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kurt Warner.
This all explains why Haley has always said it would take 2 years to build his staff. I love this move.
Possible call-ups from Chiefs farm club
Some discussion here on Patriots FA. Seems like these guys aren't very high on Mankins. I've never been too hot on Watson but sounds like he could be a good fit for KC. I think we're just used to TE being a very important position but looks like it isn't so important to Weis/Haley scheme. Maybe Watson and Cottam are good enough system guys that can block and catch.
Most important of all, these guys are probably accurate that Wilfork will be the Pats signing priority. I guess the wildcard for me, though, is that the Pats always seem to be so-so on guys that are getting a bit older. They may not want to pay this guy in dollars or years what he might ask.
Per Giant's site, Crennel is now a Chief.
The site quotes the NY Post saying it is done.
