Tribune Cuts Distribution To Michigan
For those unfamiliar or geographically challenged, Kalamazoo is a small city exactly half-way between Detroit and Chicago. It's a great place to live as a sports fan since there is about a 70-30 mix of Detroit fans and Chicago fans. So there are always good debates at work, watering holes, even family gatherings.
One avenue that has always allowed me to stay in touch with my beloved Cubbies, as well as all things Chicago, has been the Chicago Tribune. I grumbled and growled about the increased price of the 'worlds greatest newspaper" over the years, but thought that it was my way of supporting the Cubs payroll, and it was still better than the Sun-Times.
While at my local convenience store this morning, upon handing me my saved copy, the little old lady behind the counter informed me that as of Monday, the Tribune will no longer be distrubuted in Michigan. I was floored. Immediately i thought, there has to be somewhere in this town that will still get it delivered. So I came home and made a few phone calls. The response was the same, "no more Tribs, come Monday". In fact, the company that distributes the papers will also stop delivering the S-T as well.
I have no clue as to whose decision this was, but it's horrible. There are many options for my Chicago news, but the fact that I will no longer enjoy my morning paper and coffee is a travesty. I have several sports pages saved from different milestones I have had the opportunity to live through, and always envisioned what it would be like to buy the edition announcing the Cubs as the World Champs. I guess short of driving out of state to get a copy, I'll never know what that feels like.
