I was recently reading an article by the sports editor/columnist from my local paper when I realized how lucky, as a Terp fan in Western MD, I am to have a top-notch Terps sportswriter in the person of Mike Burke at the Cumberland Times-News. As a UMD graduate he quite often chimes in with a good Terps column that not only fills you with plenty of good information but a comedic undertone that makes it all that much more enjoyable. Living out here in an area that recieves more WVU coverage than Terps, Burke's musings of Terpage really hit the spot. His latest column was, once again, and entertaining and informative read regarding Coach K, ACC Rivalries and the new Big Ten scheduling requirements. You can find it here:
http://times-news.com/opinion/x1303549643/Preachers-in-glass-pulpits.
I am writing this article not only to plug my local guy, but to induce others from other areas of the state and or country to give the rest of us a look into their personal favorites and allow us to sample their writings.
P.S. I don't know if this should be a fanpost or shot, but feel free to move it, delete it or can it.

New B1G Agreement Regarding FB Scheduling

It appears that the B1G AD's have gotten together to try and strengthen the OOC opponents in football. According to Barry Alvarez, there is an agreement in place to ban any B1G conference member from having a FCS opponent on their schedule. Calling the OOC scheduling in the B1G "rediculous" and "not very appealing" Alverez went on to say that all future football schedules in the B1G will contain nothing but FBS opponents starting, most likely, in 2014 when Maryland and Rutgers join the conference. That puts an end to the James Madisons, William and Mary's, and Towson's appearing on the schedule. Being a season ticket holder I like this thinking as I will no longer have to watch "glorified scrimmages" and instead will likely see better opponents. Thoughts?

Does anyone know how the visit with Diggs went? I wasn't at the game to check out the student action. From what I could see on TV the student section seemed filled and rockin'(Props). But I didn't see any "Can U Digg It" signage or any other variations on that theme displayed on TV. I hope there were some chants during timeouts and that anyone in contact with him made him feel extremely wanted by Terp Nation. If there is anyone out there with any insight, please feel free to divulge your info. Thanks in advance!

I was watching the documentary on HBO called "Namath" about "Broadway" Joe Namath and his story of growing up in Beaver Falls, PA all the way through his playing days in the AFL and NFL. There was something I didn't know about Joe Willie Namath, the fact that he wanted to come to MD and play for the Terps. His dream of playing for Coach Nugent and the Terps died when he could not muster the minimum board score to gain admission. Turns out old Joe couldn't muster a 750(his score was an extremely modest 730) on his SAT which could not get him accepted to UM so Coach Nugent turned Bear Bryant and Alabama on to him to keep him away from any other east coast school. The rest, they say, is history. Turns out we have been denying admission to top athletes for years now, only to send them on to the football factories of the south.

What Is Up With The DC Situation?

I saw that the previous post regarding the DC hire and the critical nature of it happening made it off the front page. Since I agree with that post I felt it my responsibility to make one so that it is brought back to the forefront. All of the bowl games have now been played so any and all coaches are available to be contacted and still we have nothing. No word on any possible suitors, no definitive word on whether TBradfor is going to remain the DC, and no word on if there are any deals possibly in the works. Don't get me wrong I love Terp Basketball, but NSD is less than a month away. Lox has come in and put a lot of recruits that previously off the radar back on it for the football program. I feel for him to be able to close the deal with the likes of Goldman, Darby and other defensive recruits there has to be a DC solidly in place to let these guys know just exactly who they will be playing for next year. If RE and KA have a guy in the fold, they should let it be known, if TBradfor is the man then make a definitive statement saying so but time is growing short and I feel for recruiting purposes this needs to be cleared up....NOW!

Can we finally get on Larry Johnson Sr. and get him down here as a DC. After watching the Ticket City Bowl today and seeing how the D-line played I would seriously want him here. Can somebody get this deal done??? Whatever we have to do, I want to have the "fence up around the state of Maryland". Heck, I will go to Regal fence company or some other fence company myself get their sponsorship for the damn thing. Let's go, get it done and get the 4* and 5* recruits in state locked up. COME ON !

U of A lost their first game Thursday night. While it was only an exhibition it was still a loss. And who was it too you ask? A Division II school Seattle Pacific. Seattle Pacific?? Yes, I know that there is a city named Seattle and that it borders the Pacific Ocean but there is a university named after it? And they actually have a basketball team? Boy, I'm glad we did not hire that guy. I don't care who we lose to this year, it cannot be as bad as being a team coming off an elite eight and losing to Seattle Pacific.

There is an article on the ESPN website talking about how Tommy Tuberville has turned Texas Tech into a team that can win in a different way now than when it had the Pirate for a head coach. It talked about how he had to come in and change the culture of the team and how it takes time. As a matter of fact, it talks about other coaches that took over programs and had trouble their first year and that now they have had time to teach their way of thinking and have been able to recruit kids that fit their system are suddenly successful. Cincinnati was one of the teams mentioned, their replacement for Brian Kelly, who left for ND, is Butch Jones who took over a successful team and last year went 4-8. This year the Bearcats are 6-1, bowl eligible already and are looking for more So to those "Fire Edsall" people out there, give the guy some time and let him do his job!

Does anyone else out there think that the playcalling early in the game should have been altered to get the ball down the field and over the middle? I mean, I like getting the ball out and in the hands of our playmakers, but it seems as though everytime the ball came out wide or everytime we tried a slip screen or wheel route it was blown up immediately by a defense that seemed to be waiting on it. I feel that if we would have thrown the ball over the middle and down the field like we did late in the first half and in the second half it is possible that the game would not have gotten out of hand so early. BTW, did anyone else see Boykins getting instructed on how he should have come back for the ball after DOB threw his second pick?? I did.

According to Randy Edsall's twitter it appears as though the captains have chosen to go with the all black uniforms for the WVU game. I am a little apprehensive about this, is our record with the all black uniforms not all that good? I hope our luck changes this weekend with the new Under Armour set up. I hope that it stays a little cool Saturday to help with the black uniforms because I think that even with the new technology that Under Armour provides the players with, black is still black and hot as all get out in the sun.

If the moves are truly being made for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to bolt the Big 12 for the Pac 12 then it is time for the ACC to make a move to provide for a bigger and better conference for football and basketball. It should be a major shakeup that would involve gutting the Big East and getting rid of the Tobacco Road bias that has plagued the conference for years. I say let us bring in Louisville, WVU, Pitt, UConn and Syracuse. Combine them with BC, VA Tech, UVA and us to form an “ACC North” division. We can then either boot Miami out and bring USF in or keep the criminal element in the ACC by having them stay. If so, it could be Miami (or USF or both), Ga. Tech, UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson and Florida State to fill out the “ACC South” division. This conference would be one heck of a basketball and football conference (IMHO). To top it all off, the conference offices would be relocated to the DC/Metro area where they would be more centralized to service the new conference better. Any Thoughts?

On ESPN 2 right now. Pittsburgh Central Catholic vs. Archbishop Wood of Philly. Our QB recruit Perry Hills is doing pretty good but the real star for Pittsburg CC is our other recruit Anthony Nixon is the star offensively. I've seen the tape on him from last year and he looked okay in it, but in this game today, he is taking over. Plus right now he just made a heck of a tackle on the opposing team's running back. The dude thought he was going to run our guy over and he ended up on his can about two yards back. Don't mean to tell Randy what to do but this kid is a stud WR with great hands. They commentators keep saying over and over that his coach says that if there is a better two way player in high school, he hasn't seen one. Anthony Nixon is the real deal folks.
