Pre-Season "Regular Season"

Is it just me, or does every game seem like a preseason game? It seems like our plays are vanilla. On offense, it doesn't seem like we even think about stretching the field. I don't see much imagination. I don't see Cassel even try to make any plays through the air. You could almost see him hold the ball too long. On Defense, where are the blitzes? I understand that we can't cover, but it just doesn't seem like we're doing anything outside of the norm. I still don't agree with the lack of playing time for DJ. once again, he made the play on Torry Holt. We sign Wade, then de-activate him.

It just seems like every week is an audition for the future. As each weeks goes on, I'm starting to not get as involved emotionally. If only my DirecTV bill would reciprocate.

Media's perception vs. The Fan's perception of the Chiefs

For a few weeks now, I've been paying attention to what the game announcers, NFL Network, and ESPN media outlets have been saying about the Chiefs. I have to say that I think the media is more positive about our team, than we are.

Take for example Rich Gannon yesterday. I heard him say that he liked Haley, and thought the Chiefs were doing a good job. Without posting everything that I've heard, I think Gannon's statements are similar across the board (from the media). While I sit home, and get frustrated that they don't move the pocket to avoid the rush, that they don't throw down field more, etc. The media seems to think the Chiefs are one of the best "worst" teams in the league. And they think we are going to build a winner, eventually.

I know we've joked about "In Pioli we Trust"..., but I was hoping for more success this year. Don't get me wrong, I'm wearing my Chief's jersey at work today. But, for example, I wanted the team to WIN yesterday's game. I was a tad disappointed that we couldn't punch in that last TD to seal the game on a high note.

All this being said, I have to keep reminding myself, either there's a love fest with Haley and Pioli, or the media may be right. We'll just have to wait until next year to see the fruit of their labor.

Like any loyal fan, I'm still glued to my set on Sundays (we won't get a prime time game for a while). You can pick so many plays that led to us losing, again. I'm going to start backwards from the last few plays.

Leggett going for the pick, again. Austin breaking that tackle attempt, taking it to the house.
Safety not being in position to make the tackle
Colquitt hitting his worst punt of the year. He should have pinned them inside the 5. Instead, they had it at the 20, and ran with Choice.
We have the ball at midfield, 2 and 10, run another play up the middle to LJ. Need to have Charles run to the outside to slow down Ware.
Cassel needs to roll out, and move the pocket. He stands in there too long. Dallas defenders knew where to find him every time.
The Giant announcers talked about the deep snapper (Gafford) putting his head down on the FG attempts. This week, Dallas did their homework, and blocked that FG. Teams will continue to take advantage of that. I hope our staff recognizes it. If not, hire me, and I'll point it out to them.

On to play Washington. It has to get easier, doesn't it? Dallas handed us that game. We are still not ready to take it.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has downplayed any concern, but Kurt Warner also bemoaned the team's lackluster preseason in a radio interview. He seemed to hint the team could use a little butt-kicking, like the one former offensive coordinator Todd Haley used to administer.

"I am not going to put [our struggles] all on Todd but he was very much a vocal, in-your-face, challenging type of coach that would really push guys," Warner said. "The one thing that I appreciated about Todd is that he pushed us to be great and he wasn't worried about being our best friend. He just wanted us to respect him for making us better players."

Ex Chiefs that no one wants...were we worse than 2-14?

As I look around the league, I'm starting to really think we, our Chiefs were even worse than our record last year. Today, I see the Bill released Pat Thomas.

Earlier in the week, the Raiders released Will Franklin. Earlier in the year, the Lions had previously released him. How bad is it that two bad, depth deprived teams don't want Franklin.

Then I read Huard was released by SF. The main reason for that one, was Nate Davis' progress was would have been impeded if Huard was the third string.

All of this leads me to think that anyone on our team (or at least 75% of them) could be cut, and not start on any other team. Which leads me to my expectations of this season. I'm hoping for a 7-9 season. If we get very lucky, 8-8 and a shot at the division if everything aligns. Reality tells me that we need another draft or two to replenish our team with quality players. I don't mind Haley saying that if he's going to be responsible for the team, then he wants a direct hand in what he does best, offense.

Hopefully we can pick up some players that get cut (offensive linemen). But my prediction is a #7 or 8 draft pick.

Tony G in a Falcon Uniform

I'm watching a replay of the Falcon / Detroit game on NFL Network. It still stings a little, to see Tony G. in another uniform. They just got done interviewing him on the sidelines. He went on to say that there were no primadonnas on the Falcon team. He thinks Ryan can be a very good QB if he keeps working hard. He thinks Atlanta is a playoff team. He said that was why he left KC. He wanted to win a playoff game, and felt KC wasn't going in that direction.

I really hope they miss the playoffs, and we find a way to win our division. That would be something!

Here's to a fresh start tonight! New GM, Coach, and concept!

KC Management working hard with LJ

It really appears that the Chiefs Management team is working hard at keeping LJ happy. For what it's worth, he's been a happy "camper" thus far. I'm sure Carthon (RB coach has a lot to do with any of LJ's mental successes). If LJ can lead this team, Cassel will be able to do his part without the D in his face.

Case in point:

After practice had ended, Todd pulled Larry Johnson to the side to personally introduce his starting running back to his parents. All four seemed engaged in conversation and were smiling and laughing for about five minutes before Johnson excused himself and stepped away to take questions from the press.

It will go a long way if Waters and LJ can go along with the other veterans that were brought it. As Pioli said, this is year 1 of the Patriots.

one Mel Kiper. He has them taking LSU Tyson Jackson. Interesting. It seems that Pioli wants a Richard Seymour type of player here. If that happens, then Curry will fall to Cleveland.

My head is starting to spin now. My latest gut is telling me that they should trade out. There will be a team desperate for Sanchez. It could be the Jets, Redskins, Jags, Seattle.

Tomorrow at 4PM ET can't come quick enough.

Is anyone else getting tired of hearing Curry talk about how great it would be to fit into Detroit's team? Recently, I read that he's love to play with an ex-high school team mate.

Whatever happened to, "he'll do the best he can with whatever team drafts him". I don't see Stafford or Sanchez taking like this.

And they brought in Julian Peterson, who I’ve always been a big fan of. I see myself in that uniform, and I could also see myself playing beside Ernie Sims and Julian Peterson."

As Curry was describing how he exchanges text messages with Lions GM Martin Mayhew, all I kept thinking about was how the Bears built their team around Brian Urlacher.
