Matt Flynn - good news for Geno

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora recently named the Jaguars as Flynn's "most likely destination," but Jacksonville needs to keep each of its seven draft picks. GM Dave Caldwell is committed to building through the draft and not tying up money in middling veterans. The Raiders would seem to be Flynn's most likely landing spot, although Oakland needs to hang onto its draft picks, too.

Walter looking into next years draft

Alex Smith probably won't perform well in 2013, but Andy Reid is a stubborn guy, so he may blame Smith's predictable struggles on a lacking receiving corps. The Chiefs have Dwayne Bowe, and that's pretty much it. They signed Donnie Avery, but they're about to find out how inefficient of a wideout he really is.

3. Oakland: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia My take: This is very interesting. But with the Carson Palmer situation percolating, Smith may be the choice. Still, Oakland has great needs on defense.

Barkley 4th round talent

A day after USC quarterback Matt Barkley completed 56 of 62 passes against the Kukua defense, the buzz isn’t entirely positive. Greg Cosell of NFL Films characterized Barkley as a fourth-round talent on The Dan Patrick Show.

Chiefs sign Chad Kilgore LB - info on him

It would make sense. Reggie McKenzie spent 18 seasons in the Packers' front office. There is a pretty good chance that when the Packers saw this young player who they liked but couldn't keep, knowing the Raiders were thin at linebacker, a phone call was in order.

Gaither - no suprise

Gaither’s now one of the new poster boys for the dangers of free agency, as he was one year into a four-year, $24.6 million contract. But instead of a franchise left tackle, they got an expensive tenant in the training room for their money, as he played just four games last year after signing that deal.

Drew Rosenhaus, Winston’s agent, says that it isn’t because of a lack of interest on Winston’s side of things.

Keeping options open at LT

Caplan reports that the Chiefs will then make their way to Oklahoma to meet with tackle Lane Johnson. Johnson isn’t rated quite as highly as Joeckel or Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher, but the Chiefs are obviously keeping all of their options open when it comes to what they’ll do at the top of the draft.

Brad Jones reigns with GB

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Jones has agreed to terms on a deal that will keep him with the Packers for at least one more year. No terms of the deal have been reported.

Tuck rule done

The NFL owners voted Wednesday to wipe out the Tuck Rule at their meetings in Phoenix. With the rule eliminated, quarterbacks who pump fake and lose the ball while trying to bring it back into their torso will be deemed to have fumbled. Before the change, such a play would be ruled an incompletion.

KC done in FA

Updated #Chiefs numbers bring their 2013 est. cap to $119.8M. With a rookie deals to come, it's likely they're done.— (@spotrac) March 17, 2013

Trading w Buffalo?

The Bills have only one experienced quarterback on their roster -- underwhelming Tarvaris Jackson -- and they'll have to find a signal-caller in a draft class that doesn't have a can't-miss prospect. The loss of guard Andy Levitre to the Titans also hurts.

Trade Baldwin, or is his stock too low?

Avery, 29 in June, recorded 60 receptions for 781 yards and three touchdowns as the starter opposite Reggie Wayne in Indy last year. He was outplayed by rookie T.Y. Hilton and has always struggled with injuries, drops, and a distinct lack of physicality. The Chiefs did want to upgrade their perimeter speed, though, and Avery's sub-4.4 wheels can help in that area. With Dwayne Bowe, Avery, and slot receiver Dexter McCluster in place, we would not be surprised if the Chiefs put Jon Baldwin on the trade block before the draft.
