But Wait, There's More - Another Silly Season Rumor
I think the silly season has taken a sharp wide receiver turn with vets like Randy Moss, Javon Walker, DJ Hackett, and Larry Fitzgerald in the batch of NFL Free Agency article lately.
BTB Bruthas -- What Is The Meaning Of This?
As all of us continually exchange opinions and share Dallas Cowboys & football news/info on this site, I occassionally get curious about some things.
Tatum Bell a Cowboy?
ESPN.com has reported that Dallas native -- and current unrestricted free agent running back -- Tatum Bell has spoken to Cowboys reps regarding possible interest to join the club.
Speedy Vet to Replace Terry Glenn?
Here's a question. Would you all rather stand pat and not add to the current receiving corps. Or if Terry Glenn truly cannot play anymore due to his injured knee, would you rather draft a receiver and add a speedy NFL vet?
Three Names
In my ripe old age of 41, I've grown to become more skeptical of picking up -- as Terry would put it -- "another team's trash."
But sometimes, the primary reason for a team cutting/releasing a player from their roster is merely to make room under the cap... and if that player is relatively young, is fairly healthy, still has the potential to produce, is familiar with our current coach's system, and might possibly sign for an affordable deal, then why not take a look-see.
D-Mac is da Mack Daddy
We all know that Darren McFadden's gonna be one rich NFL player after the April '08 Draft. I know there are many on this site that don't like #5, but as for me, I enjoy watching his many highlight reels.
Could da Tuna Do Our Cowboys a Favor?
Of course, this is mere speculation... but foxsports.com's Alex Marvez seems to think that the Dolfia -- Bill Parcells/Jeff Ireland/Tony Sparano -- could sign some current Cowboys to short-term deals as they begin their rebuilding process.
The Wit & Wisdom of Charles Barkley
Anyone hear about Sir Chuck's hilarious quote regarding the Shaq for Matrix & Marcus trade?
Rating The Cowboys Draft Class of 2006 Now
Not gonna get into the whole King Jerry vs Big Tuna vs Ireland debate regarding who gets credit and who gets a thumbs down on drafts they did together.
However, I'm gonna give ALL THREE OF THEM a vote of disapproval for the '06 NFL Draft up to this point. Of course, some of the underperformers from that class could prove me wrong in the upcoming '08 season, but as of now, I'm less than impressed.
Somebody Hit Me - I Actually Agree With Galloway
Every so often -- like maybe every leap year -- Randy Galloway of the Star-Telegram writes an article that's palatable. In fact, until a few minutes ago, I couldn't remember the last time I agreed with him.
Train 'Em Up While They're Young
I have two daughters - ages 8 and 3. They know that their Daddy loves him some Dallas Cowboys, and occasionally they'll watch a few minutes of a game with me during football season.
Mosley's Hashmarks - 1.11.08
Apparently, the NFL's diarrhetic mouth of the south -- also known as Terry Bradshaw -- has decided to air his comments on Tony Romo's trip with Jessica Simpson, her family, Jason Witten & wife, and Bobby Carpenter during the Cowboys "time off."
As if no one else in the media has weighed in on that increasingly tired subject.
But unexpectedly, a writer from BSPN actually came to Romo's defense... somewhat.
Hey Cowboys, Tuck This Away and Post It On Your Bulletin Board
As the Dallas Cowboys approach their first playoff game this post-season, it's become vogue to continue bashing our team of stars.
Burger King Disses Our O-Line... Well, Sort Of
I just read a little of SI.com's Peter King this morning. He went into what he forecasts for the next round of the NFL Playoffs.
Draft Plans Without Ireland
Jeff Ireland hasn't even been gone a day yet, but apparently the King expected all along and made contingency plans.
To be honest with you, I'm surprised... but we'll see if the "fallback" is actually carried out come April.
Jamaal Charles
...that Texas Longhorns junior running back Jammal Charles will forego his final year of football eligibility to enter the NFL Draft in April 2008.
Run Baby Run
Sometimes The Dallas Morning News' Sportswriter Calvin Watkins is "off base," but sometimes the man is "on point."
I must say that his article today regarding the playcalling in our Cowboys’ 10-6 loss to Philly yesterday was more the latter (wonder if he’d been reading Grizz’s stellar analysis).
Who is DeMarcus Ware?
Grizz pointed out a few posts back that DeMarcus Ware was actually not off-sides -- and film revealed this truth -- on an erroneous penalty called against the OLB in our Cowboys' win against Green Bay.
In the article I've enclosed the writer not only talks about that play and Ware's quickness, but he goes on to share some of the preparation tactics used by #94 to get better and better with each upcoming game.
Crop of Corners for 2008 NFL Draft
I occasionally visit a site with some interesting football info. And one that ArkCowboys makes mention of here on this blog.
19 vs 81
After my lunch break, I was driving back to work and heard something on BSPN's The Mike Tirico Show.
Grizz, Terry... and Greg Cosell?!?!
The topic of Tony Romo has run rampant over the past year or so... but even moreso this NFL season – and of late, with his new lucrative deal to remain with our Beloved Dallas Cowboys.
From Terry’s tip early last year to watch out for #9 – that he has the "it" factor – and that he would only get better... to Grizz’s countless hours studying our starting QB develop... I give you this interesting, yet accurate article by NFL Films’ Greg Cosell.
But first – a little background on Cosell. He is a 28-year veteran of NFL Films and the one-time executive producer of ESPN's NFL Matchup who occasionally writes for thesportingnews.com... and nephew of play-by-play sportscaster legend Howard Cosell.
Falling On Your A** Can Hurt More Than Just You
I read a somewhat comical article prior to the Week 7 games. It concerned Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro Tackle Jon Runyan, and his slipping and falling out of a tub a few days ago.
Can you imagine the loud thud this accident caused and how many tremors it may have registered on the Richtor scale at that moment?
Of course, I'm sure the mammoth O-lineman failed to see the humor after feeling immense pain shoot up through his posterior. And his coaches/teammates/trainer felt it was merely a deep bruise.
Hate to Make ArkCowboys & Others Angry, But...
Like many, I'm thoroughly enjoying most of what's transpired for our Beloved Dallas Cowboys through NFL Week 7.
However, I am pumped about us having two first round draft picks in the 2008 Draft, and I imagine the seemingly endless possibilities on the offensive side of the ball IF we were able to drafting Running Back Darren "D-Mac" McFadden of the University of Arkansas.
Not-So-Important Patriots/Cowboys Trivia
Going into the New England Patriots at Dallas Cowboys Week 6 Game in Irving, Texas, I did a little fun research -- just out of curious interest -- comparing certain "parts" of these two successful NFL francises.
Check it out.
Believe It Or Not
Like most football fans who follow the NFL closely, I continue to consume the koolaid that makes me believe the New England Patriots are the best right now -- that was prior to the Monday Night matchup at Cincinnati -- and even moreso after the Pats thoroughly thumped/dominated/overmatched the Bengals 34-10 before a national television audience.
With Bill Belicheat's videogate scandal considered "old news" at the moment, it appears that the team of the 2000s -- with already THREE Super Bowl Titles this decade -- is poised to win it all again this season.
But earlier this morning, I went to thesportingnews.com and stumbled upon an interesting analysis piece by TSN's Vinnie Iyer, and he points out some intriguing observations that most people probably did not notice at this point of the season. As intriguing as Iyer's analysis sounds, it might just be a reach... but it is worth noting.
Please read the article, and let me know what you think.
[EDIT] I ask again, please do not post full articles from newspapers, magazines or other sources like that unless you have permission to do so. The way to handle this is to excerpt the parts you want to talk about and provide a link back to the original article. If anybody wants an explanation about why I ask this I will be happy to provide it.
Looking Back
You would think that upcoming opponents of our Beloved Dallas Cowboys would learn the lesson that pride comes before a fall.
I know, I know... various articles state that Wade Phillips is trying to keep a loose, fun atmosphere amongst the team, and I'm sure that it's true to an extent.
But let's get real, you know that with 53 players on the active roster and two handfuls of coaches... some players do get wind of piss-off bulletin board material.
And if it works, let the opposing teams' players and the mainstream media continue to bash the Dallas Cowboys and disrespect them -- fueling the fire that leads to victory after victory... all the way to a Super Bowl title this year.
Who's Got Romo On Their Fantasy Football Teams?
I just read an interesting article by Jamey Eisenberg, one of sportsline.com's fantasy football writers. He talks about Tony Romo having the best start out of every NFL quarterback in Week 1... a far cry from the botched attempted FG hold in that dreaded playoff loss to Seattle last season.
The writer goes on to rave about our QB's weapons and this year's potential.
Friends of Big Bill
Wow. Is it just me, or does anyone notice that Bill Parcells' guys -- who played for him on his other teams -- are just falling off our roster one by one?
Somebody Enlighten Me
I usually refer to www.kffl.com as one of my fantasy football sources, and I stumbled upon a number of "tryouts" that our Dallas Cowboys have held for various players released by other teams recently.
I've copied and pasted the link and the details of possible interest to us below -- including the news that Akin's bro Remi got released in the Dirty South.
Blame Shifting
We've seen it in Dallas, but it's not limited to that Metropolis. Yes, it's called public blame shifting and many of today's young modern athletes are good for revealing their lack of class.
Of course, I don't want to lump them all together because for every JuJo and Spears, there's a J-Dub and Canty.
