lets forget about the emotions that go along with following our favorite team and wishing them well on a great regular season. we have all gone through countless reasoning of why 1 team should or shouldnt represent its conference. we can all admit that the "HOT" team right now is getting all the love and is looking very attractive. i tried doing some research as to which team actually looks better overall. now i dropped the names of the teams and dropped the names of the opponents because i feel like they are too subjective. i just want to bring up a few numbers

Team A Vs. Team B

Overall record: A) 11–1 B) 11–1 advantage: push

Conference record: A) 7–1 B) 7-1 advantage: push

Vs. top 25 opp: A) 3-1 B) 4-1 advantage: Team B

L (rank of opp/ margin of defeat) A) #7\6 * B)#5\10** adv: Team A

                * - road game

                **- neutral field

Record Vs. common opp: A) 4-1 B) 5-0 adv: Team B

Avg margin of Victory: A) 32pts B) 29.6pts Adv: Team A

Avg margin of Victory Vs. common opp: A)30.6pts B)28pts Adv: Team A

Of course i could have done about a hundred different sections and go into more detail but overall if the BCS peeps want style points then Team A is beating thier opponents by a larger margin, but Team B does hold a better record. It would be difficult to put Team A in a title game based on its record vs top 25 competition and record against the same 5 opponents. Bottom line is team B is no doubt going to a title game and the bottom bottom line is that OU is team B. GOD I HATE OU.

is it panic time yet?

as soon as we looked at the schedule all or most of us were particularly scared of the first 5 games of the schedule. well none of us thought that we would start the season in such a horrible manner. After the steelers game i thought that the steelers were just a very good team and probable a AFC title game good team, but then they looked terrible against the eagles and that made me second guess the steelers as a top tier team and with that makes me feel even worse about our team.

on sunday i was hoping that history wouldnt repeat itself because lets face the Titans own our team. i think we are like 1 - 12 in the history of the texans against the titans. at the beginning of the year i said that this would be the year that we wouldnt be the bottom dwellers of the division and called for a season sweep of the titans. well now that shit went out the window and i am starting to panic and really contimplating a 0 - 4 start to the season.

the jags have some issue of their own and had to make a great last minute comeback against the colts to avoid their own 0 - 3 start. we play the jags well every year and usually steal at least 1 from them a year. also looking at the schedule we have the colts who arent looking like the team of old and more like just an old team, but still possibly looking at a 0 - 4 team.

but then have a stretch of 3 very favorable games against the dolphins, lions, and bengals. after that stretch we are looking for a possible 4 - 3 team that is coming off a 3 game win streak. so with this information is it really panic time yet? how long before the organization hits the panic button and the schaub project is scrapped in favor of the sage-flavored texans? i am hoping that we wait until mid season to make any changes to this team. of course i am just looking for something to put a possitive spin on my team and keep looking foward. let me know what you think and if you are in panic mode or looking at a possible 4 - 3 team going into the second half of the season?

thoughts from last night

this was the first live game i was able to watch of my texans team. it was tough to swallow the final outcome but it was a very good game and here are some things that jumped out at me during and after the game.

steve slaton is our running back! whether ahman green comes back or not i think we will be much better and we may have a 1000 yard rusher finally. like the way he ran the ball, and the way he cuts and explodes(when he had a lane to go through of course). as a matter of fact chris taylor looked good as well, finished some nice runs.

we need to turn these field goals into TDs. kris brown is an awesome weapon dont get me wrong but damnit put it in the zone. especially playing on the road, when we are putting up field goals instead of TD they might as well be turnovers.

man it took schaub some time to get loosened up. to me it looked like he was playing tight. too many balls over the head of our recievers. overall he looked to settle down and start making some good throws.

kevin walter is a smooth cat. with andre johnson nowhere to be found, walter was the go-to guy. i can see a 80 - 90 catch season. he is such a valuable piece to our recieving core and is one of my all time favorite texan.

our return game is scary good. i really fell like with jacoby jones and apostrophe we have the ability to take it to the house on every punt and kick off return.

we won the turnover battle. got a pick in the endzone and a couple of good gang tackle strips one guy holds em up while the posse strips the ball. we fell one fumble short late in the game when brad johnson luckily fell on the ball.

offensive play of the day: sage leaping into the endzone off of a called qb draw in the fourth quarter on a 3 and goal play. brilliant.

defensive play of the day: zack diles pick in the endzone. if they would have converted that TD it would have been lights out and the lead would have been 14 points i think.

call of the day: 2pt conversion attempt. of course everyone is going to second guess the call because we failed to convert. but i like the call and the balls it showed and how we came to win. of course our defense didnt help out with the holding call at the end of the game and closed the door.

with all the excitement of NCAA tourney and all the ex-horns in the NBA who are making contributions to their respective teams, seatle supersonics are looking for a new home and ownership. from what i've read on several sites is that Oklahoma city is the front runner to take over the team. I personally have no desire to see KD in anything affiliated with oklahoma. I know my hatred is kinda strong for a state that i know nothing about except for the fact that their school is our biggest out of state rivalry and that because i have burnt orange running through my veins that all i know is that i am supposed to hate oklahoma. So am i the only one who is saddened by one of our own may have to bear the colors of an Oklahoma franchise. and if so, what about the merchandise? would you turn your back to our beloved son just because you wouldn't be caught dead cheering and rooting for anything Oklahoma related. Just want to know how you guys feel?

I know of a lot of so called UT fans are already jumping off the bandwagon and talking so negative about the longhorns and to those of you who started rooting for texas when they were winning rose bowls i say don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I got so many calls on my cell during the game of my friends who jumped to UT when the going was easy and everything was peachy cream, and they were talking about how the players are garbage and how colt mccoy is nothing and how the longhorns aint sh!t anymore. well i've been a bleeding burnt orange the minute i stepped on the DKR field when i was 9 years old and my peewee coach took us to see the longhorns play. I only have 1 regret from this weekend,

and that some of the other top teams fell to inferior opponents. i wish that it would have just been us to fall this weekend, and thats not saying i wasnt happy when colorado beat OU but i wish we were the lone ones to fall. i feel that going into this week i can hear Mack on monday morning QB talking about all the other teams that lost and how college football is so unpredictable, but in reallity it is our football team that is unpredictable. i mean i've always lived by my coaches word when he told me that all the coach's job is to put kids into position to be successful. and i dont think our staff is putting our kids into position to be successful. i've seen numerous longhorn teams that under-produced and under-achieved throughout the early 2000's. and i have never questioned mack's ability to coach a football team, but where i see him failing is to motivate a team. our football team needs help and needs to have a since of ergency to right the ship and get our team in order. Also we have lost our swagger and most importantly we lost our identity as a football team. there's something missing from this team and thats a single figure that takes the team and ignites something inside these players. now normally that should be the head coach, but i dont have the confidence in mack to pull that part of himself and put it onto the field every saturday. we had vince young to do that for a couple of years and i hate to say it but if we wait for another VY it will be another 35 years before we smell the national championship again fellas. my prediction is that we go 9 - 4 this year and the schedule ahead of us isn't looking like the easy cake walk anymore. of course im not saying that the season was going to be easy but talent alone we should not have had these tough of times. meet you guys later, thanks BON for letting me get my thoughts out. HOOK 'EM HORNS
